Why are MOBO's a big deal? Do they affect performance? All they really are, are things that hold the ram and processor?

Motherboard is like the heart. It is a very important part of the computer system. And yes, in fact motherboards are known to be the limitations of things such as processors and ram. When building a computer, the #1 thing that becomes priority is the motherboard. Everything you purchase such as the processor, ram, hdd, etc... has to be compatible with the motherboard.

But as long as they are compatible you have no problem! I am planning on making a computer with parts all from new egg. I might use a case I already have to save money even though I love a new one! But as long as everything is compatible it doesnt effect performance!?

O and one thing im unsure of is what do you buy to have like usb plugs? Do they come with a case? Or with a power supply? Or in the mobo? Cause if they are connected to the mobo id have to make sure the case is compatible.

Yes of course it effects performances.. because the motherboard you might currently have will not be capable of letting certain hardware take full advantage.

USB ports come in a few ways. Onboard, on the case it self (which will have cables that need to plug into the motherboard), and PCI (which also plugs into the motherboard).

O! In that case I would get a new case. I want one with the plugs on top. And maybe one that lights up. haha.

So the checklist to make a computer is:

* Memory/Ram.
* Hard Drive.
* Video Card.
* Processor.
* Monitor.
* Case.
* Motherboard.
* Power Supply.
* Optical Drive.

Missing anything?
Besides mouse and keyboard.

Assuming that the motherboard is coming with a sound card (majority of the time they do) then yep... that'll be it wink.gif

Mine was close to $3000, not including the monitors, keyboard, mouse, Wacom tablet, 5.1 surround system, headphones, mic, LED lights in the case, or Vista Ultimate. And can't forget all the expensive software.

I'm going to add matching LED lights to my keyboard.
