First off, I'd prefer this to stay here and not moved to News because the real reason I'm posting this is to get a feel for what next gen console would be the best choice for me (um, and Iz, of course).

Hope Fades for PS3 as a Comeback Player
In Battle of the Game Consoles, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox Widen Leads Over Sony's PlayStation
By DAISUKE WAKABAYASHI

TOKYO -- For most of this year, Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 videogame console seemed finally to be taking off after a slow start. The PS3, trailing Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 consoles, was closing in on the No. 2 Xbox 360, with new games and quarterly sales growth at twice the speed of last year.

But early results from this holiday season aren't promising. U.S. sales of the PS3 fell 19% last month from a year earlier, while sales doubled for the Wii console and rose 8% for the Xbox 360, according to research firm NPD. Analysts say they expect PS3 sales for this month to be flat or lower than last year, while sales for its rivals are likely to rise. And Sony may not reach its goal of selling 10 million PS3 consoles in the fiscal year through March, analysts say.

Last year (2008, so almost last year) was a very financially straining year, so I decided to wait until I receive my tax returns to get a new console. I had my mind on a Wii for a while, but after visiting a friend who has a 360, I'm sort of conflicted now. Then I had read a few comments on Amazon (I was browsing through some games) and a few reviewers were singing PS3 praises and I became even more conflicted.

I'm sure many of you have one (if not more than one) of these, so I was hoping that people might find a bit of time to give me their take. Also, does a potential financial fallout have much of an impact? I mean, I'd hate to spend so much money on something that will possibly be obsolete in the near future. Maybe "obsolete" isn't the best word to use, but I'm not sure how else to phrase it.

I swear, I'm not always so cautious when it comes to game related purchases. I bought the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox without much thought. It's just that the new equipment seems like more of an investment as a whole.

If you could be specific as to why/if you have a preference, that would be great. :)

Look where those retardedly placed joy sticks are sick.gif

Yeah, cause, you know, when you hold your hands out in front of you, as if you're reaching out to hold something (like a controller), your thumbs naturally align at the bottom near your wrists. rolleyes.gif

It's called designing for comfort. That's retarded alright.

Anyways, I was just joking around.

In other news: 360 still PWNING PS3!

This would make a lot more sense with your statement about "your thumbs naturally aligned at the bottom near your wrist:

I was being sarcastic. That wasn't clear? Your thumbs don't naturally align at the bottom of your wrist, which is where you have to locate them on PS3. 360 controller is much more natural feeling. But whatever man I really don't care. Let the statistics tell you which console reigns supreme.

The statistics shows what console is more expensive.

And Xbox controllers are beyond uncomfortable.

There's a report about Surgeons who actually play Playstation and prefer the location of the joysticks. The reason being is that it gives them full "ROM" (range of motion) in their hands. Thus warming up the muscles in their hands prior to surgery. Since they use their hands for 8-10 hours straight in many surgeries. wink.gif

I guess that makes sense.

Edit:

I just googled it, and bookmarked a news article on BBC about it. It looks like an interesting read. I'm going to start on it tomorrow.

I'm sorry man, but you're an idiot when it comes to arguing. What the f*ck does that have to do with anything? If anything, you only further proved my point that the Xbox controller is designed for comfort. The fact that the PS controller makes you utilize your full ROM means that your hands are more likely to cramp or get tired after awhile. We don't usually use the full ROM of any joint in a day to day basis, especially our thumbs.

Geezus, where's the smack a hoe smiley?

Smoke, you're absolutely right. The PS3 controller is used by surgeons because it's a less comfortable controller. I own one, and if a game comes out for both systems I buy it for Xbox360 because usually it's more of a pleasure to play. Aside from a few jems, the PS3 has it's purpose... a Blu-ray player.

I've been pretending he doesn't exist, but I'll make an exception here and give you some advice regarding illmortal. Don't bother arguing with illmortal. You won't convince him of anything. He'll defend the underdog in any debate, and won't give up (even if he's wrong). In fact, his world has no wrong or right. There are no polar opposites. He simpley roams around in infinite nothing while getting angry at things he doesn't understand: Religion, Technology, Ergonomics, Halo, Everything, Nothing... what else?

Well if you want to get technical, there are no such things as right or wrong, only different perspectives.

Wrong, there are an infinite number of wrong choices in any given situation and only one right one. Xbox360.

Simple... you're argument is that the XBOX controller is best for "comfort". I find this claim to be quite laughable when doctors prefer the Playstation controller because of the button/joystick layout. Doctors use these controllers to warm up the muscles in their hands prior to surgery.

Also your claim is horribly fallacious, ask any bodybuilder or athlete for that matter about full ROM. Another problem with your other argument is that you claim that YOU don't usually use full ROM of any joint in a day to day basis, especially your thumbs.

Reason as to why doctors would prefer to use full ROM on a day to day basis? Doctors sometimes have surgeries that can last up to 8 hours sometimes even longer. Again, ask a bodybuilder or an athlete about using full ROM. Using full ROM prevents injuries, cramping, and fatigue.

Now move along, peck. I have better discussions to deal with. wink.gif

First off, take a picture of said PS3 with a sign beside it that reads, "Uronacid on CB"

Second of all, why the hell would a surgeon purposely choose an uncomfortable controller to warm up the muscles in their hands prior to a surgery?

Strong fail.

Uronacid, I do believe you are correct about illmortal. I can only assume that's why he makes little sense and continues to argue the same stupid points after I totally pwned them already.

I'm mostly just doing this for fun. It cures my boredom when I find people of lesser intelligence. happy.gif That's probably why I still hang around cB. They're easy to find!
