Pretty much everyone around me has been saying that for the past few days, and it really makes me mad. They finally stopped, because they were probably tired of me yelling at them and such.

Obama's speech was awesome.

Edit: Seriously though, separation of church and state; why is there an invocation and a benediction at these things?

His speech was awesome.

And I was thinking that as well.

I'm glad I got to see it at school. We watched it the whole time in my Chicano Studies class.

wtf

I saw one of these shirts today, and some woman next to me on the bus was talking about how she almost wore her McCain shirt to class today and her son didn't want to go to school because they were watching the inauguration and he hates Obama.

There's a difference between disagreeing with or disliking someone and being a classless bitch.

For truth. Is it me, or does the king family seem to not want to give Obama his due. Maybe I am just hallucinating.

I don't think they're doing that. You're talking about them saying that Obama is a "down payment," and not a fulfillment, of King's dream, right?

Yes. I mean do people even realize what the I have a dream speech was really about? Or what the march on Washington was really about? My point is simple. This man has done a lot in such a short amount of time, and I think that the King family can be a little bit more forthcoming with some sort of praise for him.

I don't know, I kind of agree with them, and I think Obama does too. Obama's presidency doesn't solve the nation's social ills, doesn't get rid of things like prejudice and institutionalized racism. It's a big step, don't get me wrong, but we still have a long way to go.

Haha. Did anyone hear Rev. Joseph E. Lowery's closing to his benediction?

"And in the joy of a new beginning we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead man, and when white will embrace what is right. Let all those who'll do justice and love mercy say amen."

Oops. The place I copied it from got it wrong. He says, "When a black men will not be asked to GET back." not give back.
