NEW YORK – Start the countdown clock on MTV's countdown era: "Total Request Live" will soon shut down after 10 years on the air.

The music video show will conclude in a two-hour special on a Saturday afternoon in November, Dave Sirulnick, executive producer of "TRL," said Monday. He stressed that the show wasn't ending for good, but felt now was the right time to give it a break after an unprecedented run on the cable music channel.

"We want to close this era of `TRL' in a big celebratory way, and 10 is a great number," Sirulnick said. "And 10 is the number that `TRL' counted down every single day for 10 years, and we hit this 10th (anniversary) and we thought, `You know what? This feels like the right time and let's celebrate it and let's reward it. And let's let it have a little bit of a rest for a minute.' Let it catch its breath! Been working hard — for 10 years!"

okay, i haven't been a fan of trl in...oh, i don't know 5 or 6 years, but the show brings back memories for me because my friends and i would ALWAYS watch it (when they actually showed music videos in full) when it was BSB v. NSYNC to see who got the top spot, lol. oh how times have changed.

I didn't even know it was still on! I guess they want more spots for their reality tv. Like you, I used to watch it after school when nsync, bsb, britney spears, etc. were on. I think fnmtv is the new music countdown. I do watch that when there's nothing else on.

They've changed the time slot A LOT. I watched it "back in the day", but I think if they were to change up the time of day that it plays more people would watch it. But not many people are into the daily countdown like they were in the 90s.

I used to watch it all the time after school .. now it's on like at 11 in the morning, and they keep changing it ..

I think FNMTV will replace it .

Oh my god, same here. XD.gif I loved TRL back then. I don't really care now since I haven't watched the show in years. Never been able to catch it since it's always on while I'm at school.

It's the end of an era! I remember coming home from school and watching it at 3 or 4?

I remember the first day Britney Spears was on, and I was like, 'who is this random chick?'

It's sad it's ending, even though I don't watch it anymore, but I just think MTV is going in a totally different direction these days anyway.

OMG! nsync vs. bsb and britney vs. xtina were alwasys so much fun to watch! my sister and i used to watch that show EVERY SINGLE DAY during the summer. and even during the school year, we would rush home just to see the top three or top 2! _smile.gif and when they used to do that NEW SCHOOL vs. OLD SCHOOL...that was fun! ..

...and they would pull people from the audience down on the street...

same as you though, teesa, i haven't watched it in ages but i do love the nastalgia. :tear:

TRL--who really cares anymore?
Showing video clips for two seconds doesn't make MTV a music television.

Finally! I can't stand that show. There's no point in showing 30 seconds (if that) of a music video.

That was the worst part of the show. It was better when it first came out. But nowadays the "video countdown" idea has gotten a little old. I don't think people are as interested in that as they once were.

i hate "video countdowns" because half the songs are on there for like 2 months straight, so it becomes pointless to watch.

if they're going to have things like that, they need to not let videos stay on there for 16 weeks at a time stubborn.gif
