Im pretty disappointed that the mads keep saying that english is the only language allowed. people use korean and japanese on the official kpop and jpop club and I dont think Jusun [admin] would mind other languages given the fact that he is of more than one culture. I think there shouldnt be any warning for using different languages afterall has anyone complained about people using other languages?. Its a matter of respect that I think all Cbers understand, I mean America dosent only speak english , we're diverse like cb and you cannot tell people to not come to this site because of the language they prefer Im pretty dissapointed at many of the quotes from the mods. what happened to cb is a democracy?

cB isn't a democracy?

Did most of you objecting Dee's actions actually see all the topics in the lounge last night? All the topics in Asian characters were truly obnoxious looking (no racial implications, thank you); when it was one it was fine, when there were two it was ok, when there were 15 that was more of an issue. And truthfully it would look like spam and only serve to isolate most of the community, because we have no real way of communicating in those topics even if we want to. You all know perfectly well that online translators really don't work very well. Removing those topics was not about asserting English's superiority over other languages, or anything like that, it just was actually what made the most sense at the time.

ps cB World Language Day was not created until after most of those topics were created

Before Suz deleted the forums, there was a topic in the Lounge for forum rules. It did state to not use any other languages or other language characters on the forums. But considering those are gone and I've seen people write in other languages I figured it wasn't that big of a deal anymore.

In all honestly, I just don't see it being done enough to completely exclude it from the forums. Perhaps we need some place where people can write what they want in other languages. I don't think there should be topics upon topics made in other languages, because then we could be separating the community more, which I don't think is needed. Perhaps we can use AC's idea of having a day where people can post openly in another language.

If anything, I believe almost all of you are OM's which means you can do almost whatever you want in the VIP lounge, so why not just do it in there?

Maybe we should do what Tung suggested in a former post which is to make a Forum based on other languages.
There-fore it can be a win-win situation?
Juna can get the languages into CB
and the mods wont have to worry about it being spammed in the lounge?

I was thinking of a Sub-forum, but I think it would be to much for something like this. The only way I could see doing anything like it is to have a Culture sub forum or something along those lines and people can talk in other languages or talk about other cultures and what appeals to them about it.

Or maybe posting in other languages can actually be an incentive for getting to post in the VIP lounge? It doesn't really seem like there's any real point to making new forums when there's potentially comparable forums already going more or less unused.

if your saying that we can post them in the VIP lounge, then that wouldnt make much sense
not everyone is VIP obviously and what if the Non-VIP members want to post in other languages?

Im for a Cultural Diversity Forum

lols, good job though! 249 more to go!

To be honest though, most of the people that are doing these types of things are OM's, so if we could move on from this thing without doing any changes then I would say for everyone to post their other language posts in the VIP lounge.

But that could get kind of messy and a lot of people might not like it.
Therefore if its a new section in Lifestyles then people can have the choice to ignore it or not

I know I'm coming out of nowhere with this, but I happent o like this idea very much opposed to sending all the foreign langauage threads to the VIP lounge because it will become more of a clutter. blink.gif As Tomates said, its a win win situation. Don't like it, don't have to go into the sub forum.

Let's think about this realistically. Is this foreign language trend really going to last long enough to justify its own forum? Subforums notably attract many fewer posters than other forums do, so chances are the appeal of a subforum geared towards typing in foreign languages won't outlast its novelty. Whereas being able to post other languages in the VIP lounge should serve as incentive to keep posting, which of course we want you to do. Make new topics, stimulate conversations in other topics, and if you actually have something to contribute you are welcome to bump older topics as well (hard to believe, but there was a time when people would make >200 posts a day). As it is, the VIP lounge has become something of a joke, so really just posting in other languages in there sounds like a much better idea. We just went through a whole ordeal concerning forum reorganization, so I doubt Jusun (lol) would appreciate adding another underused subforum.

When I studied for my Italian final by posting in Italian, I kept most of it to the VIP lounge and it was not an issue. Some people participated too. If foreign languages are too much clutter for the VIP lounge, which is rarely used anymore, it makes no sense to just put it somewhere else.

Thats makes a good point. _unsure.gif *looks at the Sports forum* Being that I barely go into the VIP lounge, [/guilty], I guess it wouldn't hurt putting it in there. Language didn't seem like a problem on cB until now, anyway. *shrug*

Nicki makes a good point in that a trend doesn't merit a subforum.

However, if people ARE desperate to post in whatever languages, whether they want to practice, or just have a change, I would point them to the Official [language] Threads which are still in the School forum. Chat there, and leave the rest of the forum in Egnlish.

But obviously no one really knows about the Language stuff in the school section.
Therefore if theres a sub-forum that more people could potentially know about then it will settle more controversies?

We can't just add a subforum as a solution to every fad.

I like that idea, James.

It isn't very often that people post topics in other languages.

Before I left for work this morning, I just ended up repeating myself. There were mass topics. And, Arjuna, you said that this was making CB more culturally aware? I don't really know how using translators with shitty grammar (e.g. the OP) expands the culture here, but whatever. I'm glad it's in one topic, what I asked for since the beginning.

Like i mentioned before
If theres a Sub Profile

The people who dont want to see the language cam just ignore it
The people who do can just mingle their way on it.

The only problem for putting it under school is people may still see it who dont really want to.
Then there will be a huge bitching again for spam, banning it, and then this all over again.
and i doubt we want to do this again

Guys, just swallow this for one day first.
We can talk about the technical stuff later, it's ruining the spirit of cB World Language Day.

In case anyone wanted a sneak peek, I'm against having a new subforum for foreign languages.

And lol @ the official language threads being moved to School. No wonder I don't see them anymore.

Ha ha, hey, I appreciate the thought, but what about what YOU want? cB World Language Day is for the people, not just me.

Maybe if enough people want it though.
