Not being funny, but I find that a REALLY stupid principle.

in Japan, tipping is considered an insult because they believe that good service is expected in no matter what you do.

lol what did they do that was so bad.

hrm i could understand why some people would want to give more than 20%; i personally just don't believe in it. i mean unless i'm experiencing ecstasy the entire time, i think 20% is already pretty fair.


i used to think that way when i was younger 'cause i didn't understand the concept of tipping. i mean a job's a job right and should be done well, right?

Well for one my friends & I went to eat there on a Tuesday (not a busy day at all), we got there at 7, we didn't get our food until 9:30pm; the food was basically cold, then he got our orders wrong, everyone got served before us, when we tried to talk to the manager he claimed he was busy, our waiter was slow as hell & dumb (people claimed he was new, but eff that, he wasn't new & he sucked), I for one dont eat at applebees but ever since college I had to deal with it whenever I was at school, that was the first time we were ever treated as such & ever experienced that, if we were in Atlanta that wouldn't have ever happened, so I wrote a very great letter & stated extremely valid points on what happened, the manager called & spoke to all of us & he even agreed with me, so the matter was dealt with & we got our money & then some back, & corporate also called and expressed that they didn't want us to stop eating there. I told the assistant manager he was gonna be jobless effin with me, so as far as I'm concerned, he deserved to have his job taken because he wasn't fulfilling his duties anyway.

Oh God, don't even get me started with Applebees. They have to have quite possibly the worst servers in the world.

I generally tip pretty generously since I used to be in the food industry.

Food-wise, I give a minimum of 20% unless the service is nonexistent (which hasn't ever happened). I've given up to the same price as my meal just because I thought the service was that good.

My haircut's usually $20 and I usually tip $10 if I like it. If I don't like it so much... then probably $3-5.

I also tip employees at stores for getting me dressing rooms if they seem tight :P

I usually tip around 15%. I consider myself a good tipper though, because if I'm treated really well at a restaurant/nail salon/hair place/etc. and they go out of their way to be really nice and helpful, I can tip 20% or higher. Depends.

Yeah, I have always been a good tipper myself!

I'm a waitress, and i get tipped up to ten pounds sometimes, thing is the firm which i work out don't let us have our tips, they put them away.

My aunt taught me that it was twice the tax.
And if it's 6+ people, 20% tip.

i always make sure to tip between 15%-20% depending on the kind of service i get when i go out to eat.

for the lady that cuts/dyes my hair i always give her a 10-20 dollar tip depending on what she does to my hair.

& i always make sure to have atleast $2 when i got to starbucks or dunkin donuts for tip money.

The pizza delivery guy from Papa Johns told me that a 20% tip was mandatory. I politely gave him a dollar and told him to complain to his manager. What an ass.

The 20% isn't what bothers me, it's the fact that he had the balls to actually DEMAND it.

That's outrageous, though. I would consider him lucky to get the dollar.

well i have long hair and i don't usually go in for just a cut. plus she's a great stylist & she was the one that got me my old job, i always make sure to leave her a good tip.



what an ass! you did the right thing. i've never had a delivery driver tell me that it's mandatory to tip 20%. that's crazy. i mean i always tip them 2 or 3 bucks if they're on time, but they never ask for it.

I usually tip pizza guys a few dollars at most. I mean, c'mon...they get paid, it's not like they made my pizza and waited on me, they just drove it to my door and that's already figured into their compensation.

As for restaurants, I usually tip 15% and then round up to the next dollar. Bars, I usually only give 10% or so, but that's because I only buy beer at the bar, and it's not hard/time-consuming to get me a bottle from the freezer or something from the tap.

I know with our pizza guys they always call and asking for directions because they get lost and we dont live out in the middle of nowhere so i dont know what was up with that.
