Very True.
Its like their records arnt sellin if they arnt talking about bootys shakin' and hoes and all that jazz. && especially if the beat aint nice, and I think its real dumb. && when the feemales sing, they are always singing about love, and cheating, and sex, and all that, when was the last time you heard a song about LIFE? a loonngg time.

that's why R&B is dead.

I dislike Lil Wayne and everything he represents: decent music sacrificed for the sake of commercial success.

He ain't the only one, but I seriously dislike him.
AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THOSE LYRICS! First time I heard it, I was like "What the f**k was that... He can NOT be best rapper by rhyming uhh with uhh and urp urp with zerp zerp."

thats not a good song to base his greatness on. I used to HATE lil wayne so much i thought none of his stuff made sense but i began to listen recently to his mixtapes and he has some clever analogies and stuff.

people dont understand that u need fillers on your cd's and singles to even make people listen to your cd. If you listen to the not mainstream stuff you will hear good music. Just like listen to the not mainstream kanye stuff you will not hear about the "good life". its all a gimmick, people need to make money you know.

"stick to the script like java"

"I got chip from trying to get the whole cookie
Used to make a thousand dollars everytime I played hookie"

"I'm at your door, your face is like why are you here,
Judging by my steel I got something to do here,
Give up the money or the angel cries two tears,
Front of your crib sounding like Chinese New Year."

"if you dont find me in the hood, i aint tryna hide, i blends in wit tha hood im camouflaged."

"everytime i'm tryin to leave, she beggin me to stay but i politely fadeaway like my name was MJ"

Tryna to tell you I can kick it like Lu Kang n*gga
Got the sub zero flow how u on me ma
Make her get over here like Scorpion

seriously for being so "wack" he has better oneliners and puns than any rapper you can name.

well I mean personal preference also plays a large part in determining what's "good" and what's "bad". I prefer eloquence and poetic lyrics that flow with the music, lines that create images and run smoothly off the tongue; intricate selection and use of words is what I highly value, but not that's not what everyone else likes. Some people prefer witty lines, others analogies or metaphors. Some people can say they're the best rapper alive not by blatantly stating that but by spinning out words that sound aesthetically pleasing, or by displaying a broad range of vocabulary and clever diction.

personally the "I'm like a bomb tick tick" whatever just doesn't do it for me, and that's really just my personal preference in the end.

I just find Lil Wayne's diction and word choice crude and average.

woahh coming in with the big words.I get what ur saying. But who IS the best rapper then.

like how classical music lovers arent going to request lil wayne on thier local radio station. A nonlistner of rap music cannot be so judgmental on whats good or bad if they havent expirienced all of the types of "rap" as it is. Many people call out lil wayne because he says hes the best, but who doesnt say that? Many dont, but alot do. People like mos def and talib for there wordplay and story like rap. I never said weezy is the best, but i hate when people are so quick to call him out when they dont listen to hip hop.

Who would you say the best tennis player is and why? would someone have a different opinion about my desicion?

Theres really no best at anything. We can only see what the spotlight has shown its light on.

/enddiscussion

haha I haven't given enough attention to this specific genre to have the authority or right to give that title to anyone just yet. I'm really not familiar enough with this genre to say anything about it, but because I've been exposed to various other artists, I feel as if other artists have a lot more to offer than the current mainstream chart-toppers. I won't say they're the best alive because I find that title too broad and unfair: there are many styles out there and by best "rapper" what does that even constitute as? good lyrics? good rhyming? but I will say that I respect CYNE for their attention to word choice and ability to mention subjects other than their local street corner.

I don't doubt that he has his strengths I just feel, like you but different in that some people are a bit quick to judge that he IS THE BEST. I may have sounded like I hated him right off the bat but I seriously tried giving him a chance;he's just not my guy.

For me Lil Wayne just seems to show how much the average music listener relies on what is spoonfed them on the radio. Did those millions of album buyers rush to purchase his CD's because of his hit songs on the radio or because of his apparent clever rhymes? I don't really know

record sales mean nothing. No matter how many cd's you sale doesnt prove anything. I believe alot of people dont give him a chance. They just listen to his mainstream stuff and everyone knows that mainstream stuff is made to make money. Noone listens to anything else and are quick to judge? I understand that u dont have to like him, and not everyone will. I just dont get how people claim hes not the best when the only songs they listened to are "lollipop" and "a milli"

most people who buy the cd wont even care about the other songs on the cd until they here it on the radio a few times. and then its going to be thier new fav "song". Why are we taking away the success of the artist and not the mind controlled listeners.

anyways OJAI I didn't base my opinion of him not being the best rapper only on the songs I hear on the radio; I base my opinion on the fact that I've heard what else he's had to offer, personally didn't enjoy it, and have heard of better. and as far as the mindcontrolled listeners {lol nicely put) that's just how it is nowadays :( IN THE MEANTIME LET KC DEFEND HIS SOULJA BOY

I agree 100%. (Although I like his beats. So maybe not entirely 100%). His lyrics don't cut it for me, either. I think society has succumbed to peer-pressure when it comes to (his) music. We listen to it because it's what's there and "everyone else is listening to it". I think regardless of paying attention to the lyrical content or not, Wayne is still highly listened to because everyone else listens to it. Listeners may or may not take the step back to think "wow, this music sucks" because what's important is feeling included, so to speak. Listeners can answer the question, "HEY HAVE YOU HEARD THAT NEW HIT BY LILWAYNE?!"....blahblahblah.

Plus. He's still ugly. (imo. haha just kidding. that has nothing to do with what i just said. XD.gif)

ehhhhhh. probably wayne. personally, i like sb for certain things and wayne for others. i mean, they both compare and contrast. it's hard to say. (well for me at least).

but that goes with all other mainstreamers, noone listens to anything thats not mainstream. all the good stuff is underground. If you think about it how can you really get people to listen to your stuff without making a single mainstream, its basically impossible.

Thats why people like immortal technique are really good but get know respect because they have no "club bangers".

does sb look good lol?

and i hope you dont prefer sb content wise haha. But i mean really its hard for a female to be into rappers, that rap for real. And not the poetic stuff. The shoot em up stuff just appeals to men more, and thats what wayne is about. So i think u instantly become neglective of the music as you listen and theres no way to change it.

mm nas maybe?

haha from a song befitting of our current discussion!
QUOTE
What influenced my raps? Stick ups and killings
Kidnappings, project buildings, drug dealings
Criticize that, why is that?
Cuz Nas rap is compared to legitimized crap
Cuz we love to talk on ass we gettin'
Most intellectuals will only half listen
So you can't blame jazz musicians
Or David Stern with his NBA fashion issues
Oh I they like me--in my white tee
You can't ice me, we here for life B
On my second marriage, hip hop's my first wifey
And for that we not takin' it lightly
If hip hop should die we die together
Bodies in the morgue lie together

....

Everybody sound the same, commercialize the game
Reminiscin' when it wasn't all business
If it got where it started
So we all gather here for the dearly departed
Hip hopper since a toddler
One homeboy became a man then a mobster

The metaphors and similes didn't sound too forced for me, like with the INTENT of making you go HA! they were smooth and didn't go for a shock reaction.

yea nas is considered one of the top 5 of all time. i just think waynes emotion and the way he says it is so entertaining. Sometimes music should be entertaining.

Society isnt in the mood for NAS. But they are for waynes witty punchlines and metaphors. Life moves to fast to have to decipher rap. We always want things NOW.

But wayne is different from most rappers wont u say?(ps could we take up a whole page with just our discussion lol)

I think you brought this up earlier but it's a great point. I mean assuming that Wayne was SERIOUSLY talented with his lesser known/not mainstream raps, why is it that THOSE raps can't be mainstream? I guess what you said about how life moves too fast to have enough time to decipher rap is an interesting take on it.

weezy style is made to be easily digestible and decyperable.
Thats why it sells,it may be to simple for some, but for the common person its genius. When you think about how many people that prolly listen to wayne and thier education it would proabably wouldnt be up to par as say nas and immortal technique. I really had to think about that nas quote. And it got me thinking.People look for music to relax and thats why weezy sales.

who said hip hop is dead

i think lil wayne is a complete joke. i don't know anyone with extensive rap/hip hop knowledge who thinks he's good. the people who think these albums are amazing, are the people who have nothing better to compare it to.

everyone running around saying oh this is th shit this is the shit, this is so amazing. huh? yeah right, they're just saying that cause every other bullshit wanna be hip hop/rap listener is sayin it.

what a sad time for rap when this is held so high up.

i suppose you can say wayne raps how he raps so the common people can understand blablbala. bottom line, wayne is just as stupid as the people he's rapping to, that's why he raps for the "common people" and nothing more.
