are you the type who downloads all your stuff or do you actually go buy and support the industries?

i'm annoyed with people telling me i'm stupid for actually buying my softwares, movies, games, and CDs. i'm sorry that i like having legit collections and the feeling of accomplishment when i buy something i've worked hard to save money for.

edit: if it's your thing to download, it's not my problem; i just really dislike it when people get on my case for not wanting to.

You're right but sadly I'm guilty of it. My thing is I only download free music if it's music I like but don't like it enough to buy it. But I do download things I buy. I buy a lot of music on Itune's, I actually prefer that, I want quality and it's been awhile since I stole music.

Music yes.

Computer programs no.

I'm not paying $1000 for a photo editing program.

It depends on how much I like the artist or the movie. If I like all of their songs and love the artists, I'll buy the CD at the store. But if its just for one song, I'll just download it. Sorry. ph34r.gif

Unless I really like the artist, then I'll buy it anyways.
Also movies are the same for me.

If I really like the artists or movie, I'll buy it. If not I'll download it more than likely. shrug.gif

Same goes for software. Except for like adobe stuff, because I have to buy those for school >_> student discount ftw.

I'd buy a bands album if I'm at a show or if their music is god-sent and I just need to have an album or two.
Otherwise, for any form of media or programs, I download.

I am not a record company, a struggling musician, or a producer. I do not know these people I'm supposed to support. I know me, and I know that I will benefit from downloading for free. I do not feel guilty.

Maybe I should, but I don't. And I'm sure many of you don't feel sorry either, but falsely admit to it because you feel like you're supposed to be. Have it your way. Downloaders are downloaders regardless of their intentions.

It depends. If it's an artist that I really like, I'll buy the CD just to have to original CD. Older stuff and odds 'n ends stuff I'll just get offline. I don't really download or buy software...

Well, I will BUY things if I deem it worthy to pay for, that I know I'll like. I mean, I even bought Pokemon Pearl for the Nintendo DS, when I could've easily downloaded it.

As for programs - well, I don't really want to pay $100-$200 for Microsoft Office for my Mac, so sorry, couldn't help myself there. I also barely use it anyways since I only use to it write up essays (I only write 2-3 essays per major class each quarter anyways)But I DID IN FACT pay for Mac OS X Leopard (Albiet it only cost me $70), which I bought from my school.

As for music, well that's something I am not willing to fly over to Japan or Korea to get. It's hard enough trying to find older albums of artists or bands that have disbanded, but I really like the songs. I can't really get everything off of iTunes, and I would much rather buy a legit CD -- as long as it's the album I want, which is old though -- rather than support iTunes. I mean, you can only have something like up to 7 computers or iPods with the song or something, I forgot. D:

As for anime and korean dramas, well there's youtube, crunchy roll, etc. that let's you stream it. whistling.gif And for manga, I'm not going to fly to Japan just to buy it and fly back. But maybe I'll pick up some and learn to translate it later. shrug.gif

i notice no one is talking specifically about games, which is what i originally had in mind. i just added everything else 'cause most of the things that are downloaded are music and software.

i understand many of what you guys have stated, about software (ie adobe or microsoft) being ridiculously expensive. morally, i have no issue with students downloading these things for free because the companies get their money through institutions/schools and businesses that eventually enable some people to get it for free anyway. however, when someone is specifically pursuing a field in let's say, graphic design or photography, that person def. should invest the money to obtain said software.

music is a whole 'nother realm. p2p filesharing and torrents aside, sites nowadays enable us to stream music for free, and most forums/web communities even upload entire albums for others to freely download. one wouldn't even have to try that hard to obtain music. however, there are legit ways of downloading music (ie itunes), so there's no excuse to not buy except that people simply don't want to pay. international/foreign music was brought up, and it's hard to find certain music in your local record store, but one can order via the artists' websites or from a store that specifically imports this type of music.

i've been through my downloading stage (circa napster/kazaa era), and i think it's just totally different when you actually posses the tangible album in your hands. i know that not everyone is like this, but i personally don't feel the need to download music if i don't deem it worthy for me to buy. i'm not one to download albums at a time, but i recognize there are people who download anything and everything, and thus would have a hard time buying all those cds.

i think the movie industry is still pretty strong, as i know many people who actually do go out to theatres, buy dvds/blu rays, and who rent rather than download.

anyway, for the issue that really gets on my nerves: games. i'm not talking about downloading one or two games; i'm specifically annoyed with 'gamers' who download all their games freely and have the audacity to call me a dumbass. excuse my bitterness, but i get this kind of heat from people in clubs at school and even close friends. frankly, it really does anger me, since these same people are the ones who complain about gameplay or 'standards'.

Yea I still pay for movies, and even support blockbuster, since I signed up for the total access package (before they changed it, so I still have a decently priced package). I do get discounted tickets for movies since I buy them through my college box office, so it's still supporting the movie industry.

As for video games, I will admit that I've gotten my boyfriend to download a game for my DS, but even so, like I said, I still did buy Pokemon Diamond and Pearl for both of us. I like the DS, but I guess the only game that I truly really like from it are: Cooking Mama and Pokemon. I still stand by my purchase, even though my friends told me I could just download it. The idea of actually having it, plus the free stylus was more than enough to sway me.

And I don't really play video games in general, but I do think people should PAY for them. I mean, if it's a really good game, why not buy it? I even support my boyfriend's gaming enough to buy a few games for him. I mean, I do think video games are pricey, but if he wants to buy it, it's his choice. I totally respect that because in order for the gaming industry to create better and more awesome games, funding is needed and it is a full time job for many.

On another note, for manga, I do still buy manga, but I know I've had to resort to scanlations since they're often ahead of what is published. I will buy the rest of the volumes once it's finally completely licensed in America (still waiting).

^ lol blockbuster has given me 4 free movies this month simply 'cause i rented so much ;X

anyway, yes! i agree that people should pay for games in order for the companies to come out with even better ones >;o i'm sick of hearing complaints about bugs and/or whining about how a certain company has gone under from people that don't even buy their games.

^ Yea and honestly, if you wait a year or so (depending on the game) you can get games for a pretty good price. Last Black Friday my bf got Resident Evil 4 for Wii for $20. Just sayin', that's all. Plus, there's plenty of games that really keep you busy for hours, which makes it so much better knowing that you bought it, that you'd enjoy it to the fullest.

For Blockbuster, eh I only use their online total access stuff, since I'm often too lazy to go to blockbuster. But it's cool since it's a one time fee and I can just add movies online. I mean, there was even a movie I couldn't figure out where it was (never even found it at my local blockbuster) so I had to add it to the online queue. I don't think they'll give me any free movies since many of the rates went down (I think there's 1.99 rentals or something!).

But damn, I miss when they would give us one free game rental per month. They took that away. cry.gif

I have to agree with you on that...I haven't bought a cd in a long, long time. But yes, if I really like them or something, I will, but thats still pretty rare.

I'm a cheap-ass.

And same with software. I got the entire Adobe CS3 off my friend for free... tongue.gif

No, because you're taking this out of context.

What the TC means is whether we are willing to PAY for something that is MEANT to be BOUGHT/PAID FOR, versus illegally getting it for free. Downloading this page is not illegal nor does it require you to pay for it. rolleyes.gif

let me add my 2 cents in..

Personally for me, I don't know any other way to get my software, movies, pc games, music albums & mixtapes or any type of media other than from downloading. Cause You since you can virtually download any kind of media from pirating it, its hard to go out to wal-mart and buy anything when u have bitorrent or websites like phazeddl or katz. Although a good movie like iron man or the new Batman that's going to come out or even Indiana jones - epic movies like that you know, Ima be out at the theatre with the crew watchin it. Same with Cd's. Good cd's like Carter III..I paid respect cause carters the man and I bought that album. Other than that ima download untill downloading is made impossible.

IM FOSL AND DOWNLOADING IS MY ANIT DRUG...
