What's an appropriate time to come home after Prom? My prom is from 8 p.m.-12 a.m. by the way.
Reason for edit: Fixed the time. - Cristy

my sister didn't come home from prom until the next day. She went to prom until who knows when maybe 12, then went and spent the night.

Lol. 8 pm to 12 am. I edited it. My parents are really strict. They don't even really let me go out with my boyfriend on dates and we've been together for a year, so its kind of a big dilemma. I planned this prom as president and am worked my butt of my four years of high school graduating at 6/767. I want to enjoy my prom and prom night, but I don't want my parents to hate me for it.

9PM
![]() Just talk to your parents, let them know how long it goes. I'm sure there's some sort of paper from school about prom? From what you say it seems like your parents trust you. Just have a plan and give them an estimate of the time you'd get back... My mom worries a lot if I'm out really late, but I always tell her that I have my cell phone on me. |

They don't trust me at all. I don't even have a cell phone because they don't trust me to not run up the bill. I spent the night out once before, but in very different circumstances. My mother had kicked me out of the house because I wanted to go out to my friend's dance show and asked her for permission that same day. Long story short I felt so terrible and unwanted I ended up spending the night at my ex-boyfriend's house who kindly offered. Nothing happened, he was just a good friend. We got back together shortly after and my parents hate him because of it. So yea, I'm very torn.

Does your school host a prom after-party somewhere? You could just go home after that. I think my school's after-party lasts until 4am or so, and everyone's extremely encouraged to go to prevent underage drinking and drug use. If you can talk your parents into letting you attend that with confirmation from other adults chaperoning the event, it shouldn't be too much of a problem...
Unless your parents are total psychos, which is a possibility. |

You will probably be at prom until 12:20 the latest because everybody is saying by, dance just ended, and people are waiting for their rides.
Then you would probably go out and have some late night dinner somewhere which would take an hour to two. I guess 1:30 am would be the earliest. 3am sounds reasonable. |

I went to my girlfriend's prom and we went home the next day. She had to lie to her parents and say the place we were going had no alcohol and that all the guys were leaving at 2, but they never caught on. Actually, her friends dad called her parents to make it more official.

I came home the next morning, but I had to lie to my parents as well saying it was all girls. But actually we camped in our friend's backyard with tents and with our boys <3 Alcohol was limited but it didn't really matter anyway.
I say that must suck that you have such strict parents, from what I read, But most of the time everyone spends the night over :/ or really early into the morning. The post prom for my highschool, OMG THIS YEAR THEY HAVE POST PROM AT THIS GAME PLACE THAT GOT RENTED OUT, If you pay 15$ you get unlimited game play, food and whatever and also they're having a raffle for KANYE WEST GLOW INT HE DARK CONCERT TICKETS. WHAT THE f**k, I got shafted. |

My parents are very strict but I managed to persuade them to let me stay out all night and spend the night with my ex-boyfriend. I think it just has to do with your persuasive skills and what you say to them. Like sparrowdust said, you could try to let them know there is an after prom that is chaperoned by other parents. Let them know that they can trust you and that you have been planning on this for so long and just how important it is to you. If they aren't lenient and want you to come home right after prom ends then do so and make the best out of what time you'll have at prom =)

Hmm... I would say that you should come home after it ends, unless you let your parents know. But just be careful being out late. I got home around maybe.. 2am I think? It's because I went out to eat with my friends, but my mom didn't mind. lol I told her I was going to prom with Tony, and that I was dating him at that time, but she told me she already knew I was dating him. Ouch, haha. So I guess it worked out for me!
As for being careful, just make sure you're safe and that you can trust who you're with, if you choose to be out later than when prom ends. I mean, when I went to my high school's winter ball (winter formal.. or maybe it was semi-formal) and afterwards I went out to eat with my boyfriend and there were homeless people trying to ask us for money. We didn't have any change on us anyway, but they kept pressing. Good thing my boyfriend closed the car door and I locked the door right afterwards even though they were all up on our window. D: We kept saying no and the guy left us alone. Phew. |

My parents are very strict too, but I talked to my mom about it, let all my feelings loose on the table, and set down some ground rules before we got into an argument that we WEREN'T going to get in an argument over this. It worked surprisingly well. Try talking to your parents about it, let them know how you really feel about this prom, and try your best not to get in a fight with them. Let them know it ends at 12, and you'll be home a little bit later than that (explain the whole dinner after prom thing) Maybe they'll be a bit lenient when it comes to your prom, since they're strict about everything else. :)

my parents at that point in time were quite strict when it came to me staying out late. so when it came time for prom i sat down with them and talked. i pretty much told them that we could compromise... i wouldn't come home too late and they wouldn't make me come home too early. my prom ended at 12, so taking into consideration the time it took to drive all the way over there (30 minutes) and the fact that i was invited to go out to eat with friend afterwards we agreed 1:30. which i was ok with because i planned to leave prom early. so... anything around there i think is reasonable if you have strict parents.

12:30AM-1AM. Unless your parents don't really care and just let you stay over someone's house.

If you want to stay out with your friends and come home the next day you should sit down and have a talk with your parents. Say like.. "You know mom I'm growing up I'm 17 (or 18) or how ever old you are and i'm growing up. Sooner or later I'm going to move out. I'll make sure to take care of myself and I'll be with someone else at all times just to take precautions." You know just let your mom know that you're all big and grown up. If you wanna come back home ask your mom what time she wants you to be home by and tell her what time you want to be home by then just compromise. That way you both'll be happy.
It's so much harder for us girls. = = Barely anyone rapes guys. |

My Jr. prom was from 7pm-10:30pm :(
Anyway, I didn't come home until the next day. I'd say sometime between 1am-2am, depending on how strict your parents are. It helps if they trust you (or just don't give a damn, lol). ...Maybe it's a mainland thing :/ Dances seem to be such HUGE events that you NEED to get all done up for. Here it's not that extravagent. :/ |
