My second grade teacher told us that she used "gray" because it sounds like the letter "A" and therefore should have "a" in the word, and that has always stuck with me.

It's like one of those things, the difference of English and Old English.
Color or Colour Theatre or Theater I preferable spell it out as Gray. Although, at times, when I type the color out, I have the tendency to type "grey." lol. |

I spell it gray. I've seen people of European descent spell it grey though, and Canadians. But by American standards, it's gray.

Grey is a color, gray is a verb. not really. there is no grammatical difference between grey and gray. as said in the other posts, grey evolved to its american counterpart, gray. i'm used to grey though because most paints i've seen use "grey". so do most crayons, i believe. i just got used to it growing up. |

I spell it both ways, usually. But most of the time, its gray. I spell theatre with a re, even if firefox spell checks everything I write, and that's one of the words with a red line underneath it. xD

I spell it 'grey'. Spelling it with an e just looks right to me.
I think it's a personal preference though... kind of like putting a comma before 'and' after listing a bunch of things. |
