As crazy as it sounds, I don't think I'm gonna allow my kids to go on the internet or let alone watch t.v. Nowadays, you can gain more knowledge by just staring at the blank wall compared to television. Besides, my kids will probably be blind if I let them have a glimpse of technology. pinch.gif I think I'll be a psycho mom.

Y'know, I think little Silas may well turn out to be a genius. Or a nutter. That part's kinda relative.

I would let them use the Internet and IM at ten but I wouldn't let them get a myspace/facebook till 13,14 or 15 depending on how smart they are.

Explore myspace a lil more... you want your 13 year old child exploited to that?

Well 15 would be the deadline so even if they where super stupid I would let them get one. But it would be on how smart they where with Internet safety.

i'd let them get one because kids will be kids, and taking everything away from them isn't equal to good parenting. it's the bad logic/easy way out that bad parents use.

Nah man... things have definitely changed over times. We can't have that mentality. I believe we should shelter them but also educate them on a mature level, but also not overly shelter them.

I believe once they hit a mature level, it's time to let them grow and experience life without gettin in the way except only to help/assist them when they are in much need of help.

sorry, off topic.

Also I believe everything a child has, is just a privilege to have. Not a right to have. Until they go out and buy it themselves, then they have their right as they own it.

as long as you have a content blocker, the web is, for the most part, safe. Facebook, of course, is very safe; my kids can get on that whenever they want. Though, I think in the future, facebook will be old news. There will be some virtual thing.. heh.

lol @ facebook being safe. not if the right douche comes along, and have one, and doesn't know how to set up the privacy settings. and also adding and accepting friend requests from strangers. facebook is big time for online molestors and stalkers.

Virtual thing? Oh man. I'll have to add that to the list of why I don't want kids. If I ever have kids I'll just have to be one of those creepy people you see on Wife Swap or something. Living out in the middle of nowhere with no electicity.

I'm a very liberal parent (to an extent), so of course I'll let my son use the internet. It's fine unless it interferes with school or if I catch him doing naughty things (or reading naughty things). Luckily right now, he's only on Cartoon Network.

When you become a parent, and you have a child around the age of 10-14 years old, would you let them go on the internet? I mean I know I did, when I was 13, but I never go around acting like a complete idiot, and I was way more smarter than say 14 year olds nowadays online. That douche (and you guys know who i'm talking about) makes me question why parents allow their idiotic son kids, to go online. Stay back in the Sandbox. No not cB's Sandbox, but literally the playground Sandbox.

I am 14 and i know what your talking about.

It will all just depend on my kid is. Like if he/she are complete idiots and don't know common sense then there not going to be able to use anything to connect on cyberspace.

I have 3 kids & all of them use the internet. My daughter is now 18 & has been using the net since she was 11.I have never had a problem.I have monitored what she was doing at all times. At first it was just IM talking to friends & family. It of course graduated to things like msn groups as she found an interest in psp tag making. As she got older & more net wise she began using myspace, facebook & Bebo.I must say i have always made her aware "Strongly" of the freaks & weirdos out there. My sons are 14 & 7.My 14yr old is disabled & has no interest other than looking for playstation game cheats & playing a few simple online games. As for my 7yr old he is pretty much the same but has an interest in watching funny videos.Which is "strongly" monitored by myself & his dad.We sit with him & help type out the search & watch together.I am sure his interests will expand to myspace etc as he gets older. But he will be "WATCHED" by mum & dad.And all the kids know that mum is the computer geek in our house & can find out everything and anything they do online. ;-)I am lucky i must say that my kids are good & realize the dangers & responsibilities of the computer & internet use."I make them aware"

Hopefully, he'll decide to go to the genuis side. wink.gif But I wouldn't mind if they went to watch TV at somebody elses house or use the computer there. I just wouldn't prefer it to be at my house. I mean, I got on the internet at the age of ... very early. My grades could be better and probably my eyesight as well. With such easy access to porn and hentai, its no wonder people are so horny these days.

Lets see...even when I first even got access to internet I could do whatever I wanted. That was in 3rd or 4th grade I think.
