Anybody else reading this for school? Or for fun?

This is one of the only assigned reading that I actually like. The narration's so interesting. I read this book a while back, then read it again for class, and you notice so many little things the second time around that talks about the guy's character.

I read it. Prior to reading Chronicle of a Death Foretold Wednesday, it was the only book we'd read in lit this year I particularly liked. I know a bunch of people didn't like it because it's "depressing," and "has the worst message," but I find existentialism kind of interesting. The book was great, and it was I liked how the change in writing structure paralleled the change in Mersault's character.

I'm gonna bump this because I'm currently reading the book right now and I'm having a little trouble following along. My teacher warned me that it was going to be confusing. So far, its been a good read.

Read this in high school, but wasn't the biggest fan of it because I don't think I really understood the whole meaning of it. I think I need to re-read it.

I read The Misunderstanding for French class. Quite a strange sort of story, but very good all the while. It's so much better in French.

read it for AP Literature. I thought it was pretty interesting and good. One of the few books I actually liked in that class..

It was so unique, I thought.

Though the message was very...er...different...I thought it was something different and I'll admit, it shook my world for maybe an hour after I read it.

Good read, and a quick read, if anyone is curious and just wants to pick it up and read it. Not much time required.

Story was ok, but it was really boring.

I'm kinda of confused about the book as well. I mean, the guy doesn't seem to care about anything. I have a hard time understanding the whole point of the book.

To me (and of course this is just my opinion), it was showing how a person who literally feels no real emotion moves through this world that is dominated by feeling. It's about how he thinks and interacts with people who are nothing like him. And of course since he really feels nothing, murdering that man had no effect on him.

I think a lot of books try to show us life through another person's eyes and how they feel....like jealousy, or hatred, or even love stories. But this guy is 100% devoid of emotions, and it was interesting seeing from his point of view. In that respect, it was a very different sort of book.

His life without emotion was....boring. Pointless. No real love, just lust. No real happiness, just contentment. No real guilt, just an 'oops, maybe I shouldn't have done that.'.

I thought it was interesting.

I liked the book, I mean sure, the guy has no emotions and it got me annoyed many times but in the end, we find out that he does have some sort of emotion in him. Just another book of "finding yourself".
