Just as a reminder to get my name on the list, I'm going for People Staff.

I also want to know how nominations will be made. I'm wondering if nominations are taken based on qualities of potential performance, or if it will turn out to be a huge popularity contest?

I think people staff is a big popularity contest from to time to time to throw it out there. >_> I'll probably get bitched at for saying that but when it comes down to it, it really comes down to who has the bigger community presence and if we really know they can get along with the community. So yes in a sense it could come off as a popularity contest, but in the end we want the best people for the positions and the ones that are well respected throughout the website and do know their way around the forums and have a creative spark as well. Oh and possibly someone that isn't afraid to punish members for breaking the rules as well.

Design staff, its about the skills you hold. If you have no clue what your talking about and have no idea what good graphics look like, then simply put. We don't want you or need you. Design staff is a lot more work than being on people staff, and a lot of times you don't really feel like your appreciated for the work that you do but secretly you are. You have a lot on your table, cleaning out the queue everyday, posting throughout the resource center and helping others, and then of course being part of discussion within feedback and backstage.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it ultimately up to the mods to decide who gets staff? I mean, people can nominate whoever they want, but in the long run, the mods should know well enough, who will fit into the roll and who shouldn't. I agree that some people are nominated based on pure popularity and not on skill, activeness, etc., but the mods should definitely take the hit if they are the ones who are putting ineffective people in these positions. Not trying to bash any of the mods or anything, just stating it as how I see it.

it is ultimately up to the higher staff, but we only want to hire people that have shown an interest. we dont want to have a two week discussion about people who dont want the job. and then we PM them and say "Congrats!" and they're like "uh no."

Also, we still want member feedback. That's the purpose of this thread.

As soon as I wrote this, I knew that either you or JC would respond to it lol. Ok, now I understand how it works. Obviously the feedback is from members is very much important, I just thought that all the mods had a say in who gets the final nod. Kind of like the motm thing. Thanks for the clarification.

I would love to be on design staff. Although I just started my second semester in college, I will dedicate as much time as I have to fulfilling my responsibilities as a staff member. I'll play an active role in the Resource Center....and will also continue to submit sexy layouts. _smile.gif

I think that Jess would be a good addition to the Design Staff. If you look at her submitted work, it's all original and brilliant and pretty and...*trails off and stops fangirling*. xD Jess is also fun to talk to.

I'm echoing a lot of other people here, but I also believe Brandon would be a good People Staff member. He's genial, more intelligent than most, starts interesting topics, and is just a good guy to be around. I'd like working with him.

As for Melissa (Jeng) and SilentLaugh, I don't think they should be put on staff. It's nothing personal; it's just that Melissa isn't nearly as active as she used to be -- I rarely see her on. As for SilentLaugh, I don't think she's active enough either. That isn't to say that I think all staff members should be incredibly active, but s/he should at least pop in every day to check up on things and see what needs to be taken care of, and these two members don't seem like they would do that. :/

I wouldn't mind Ruth on People Staff. I don't know her well at all, but she's active, friendly, and amusing. I like reading most of her posts.

i think it's kinda misleading to label it a "popularity contest". i mean who would you want us to choose, someone who we've never heard of? activity and popularity go hand in hand on cb in my opinion. we want active staff members.

Well it kind of makes me think of last hiring and when Cristy was hired and hardly no one really knew here, that was a breath of fresh air.

yeah and no. cristy was popular in my opinion. i knew who she was and had seen her all over the place before we were hired. she has a ton of posts, i'm not sure why people wouldn't know her blink.gif

just when people act like they wanna hire "unpopular" people. i think of people who aren't active or a presence in the community. which is basically the opposite of what i want on staff.

then again i'm defining popular on cb as being active. so even nquack is popular to me, cause he's well known.

I would love to be a design mod.
(I think that's what you called it.)
One of the people who reviews incoming layouts, scripts, gaphics, etc, and decides whther they are accepted or not?
I know I've only contributed two things, but I love reviewing others' work.

=]

Thank you.

This is the first time I've seen you post. Would you be more active if you were modded? o_O Anyway, read the post I quoted; Design Staff is more than accepting or rejecting work. I don't think you're ready to be on staff since you're rarely around, sorry.

I am like this I think. Because even if I don't post in a forum topic I read allot of it because I want to see if what I wanted to say has already been said and if so I do not add to that because that would be an extra waste of bandwidth and even if some one insulted me(the exception of being insulted for my love of Harry Potter) I would not retaliate and insult them back. I think I have a creative spark. I also spend most of my free time on here so I would be able to patrol the Forums and I am not afraid to punish someone for breaking the rules.

It hasn't begun yet; right now we're still waiting for more people to apply and then discussing who we might hire.

Damn, I accidentally closed the browser. >:|

I wouldn't label hiring (for People Staff) as a popularity contest. Whatever your definition of popular may be, you have to be noticed or have to stand out in some (read: a good) way. People said they didn't really know Kaycee or Cristy when they became mods but weren't (aren't for Cristy) they good mods?

Anyway, I'm rooting for Brandon, Ruth, and Whitney for People Staff. You don't really need that many People Staff right now, do you? Nicki, Michelle, and Steven are great too. Wow, this is going to be tough. Good luck on the decision. :)

o0o I love Holly<3

I'm beginning to be more active[slowly at the moment], didnt realize so many new people on staff, and cb's been a lot better with these new mods, and with an additional group of mods, it's most likely going to be a lot better

and....I nominate...idk. ;[
