I don't remember what the reason was for not allowing flash layout submissions, but whatever.

It'd be cool if cB could have some customizable flash layouts. Here's an example of a site that has these: click. Unless there was some uber important reason we didn't have flash layouts, I think they'd give us another edge. boxing.gif

Oh yeah, that was it. Maybe Jusun can fix that (eventually). Yeah, I guess we could host them ourselves until then.

I hate that website pinch.gif But whatever. I'm just not really into flash, and I never thought there was any reasons why you couldn't submit flash if you wanted to?

I like Flash layouts if they're done right and aren't too flashy (no pun intended). It would also create a different subcategory for layouts no? (like divs, for example)

I think it would be a great addition.

It would just go under divs, I would believe anyway. We do have some layouts with Flash on them, I thought? Like not a full layout or anything but some with a little flash here and there on it and I don't think they looks bad at all, just full layouts off that website that was an example. shrug.gif

I think if anyone wants to upload flash layouts they can? I mean I personally don't mess with flash anymore so I can't do it. But if anyone has any, try it and see if it works. I'm sure it does. And if it doesn't switch over to createblog's server then I guess we can possibly find somewhere to upload them too?

Right-o.

Yeah, I think the only problem was that the cB server doesn't take 'em.

Trish suggested our cBstaff subdomains, but that'd only be temporarily and once we run out of space, I dunno where else we could put them. Hopefully Jusun would be able to fix that though.

Yeah, Mike, he does. We have layouts that have some flash codes in them, but I don't think we have flash layouts that are pure flash. Not to sound rude, but we already have lots of questions about how to use the regular and div layouts... so if we had flash layouts and/or flash templates (like that site example) we'd probably get a lot of members with some trouble. I just bring that up because I'm not very flash savvy.

BUT, the problem with PURE flash layouts is cb doesnt currently have the technology to feed the information from your myspace into the flash layout.

and the only other way a user could personalize their flash layout is if they had flash and knew how to edit the source file to begin with; which is highly unlikely.

i wonder if jusun could somehow let us feed information to a flash layout from our cb profiles using rss, because THAT i could DEFINITELY work with.

Actually, once the movie is set up right, all it requires is something like this within the embed code:

<PARAM NAME=FlashVars VALUE="interests=blah">

and they would just type their text in place of the word "blah," and that text would appear inside of the movie, inside of the dynamic text field called "interests"

I plan to offer flash layouts on one of my sites, and I am going to be using that method, but I'll use a form that automatically inserts the text for them.

and if they want to have like four paragraphs? thats one long ass code, and im not sure u can use line breaks and whatnot.

I was thinking about just making xml based flash layouts, and provide an xml file for the user to edit and upload to their own server.

that would be another option for you. your form could just generate an xml file.
