A person in my family has OCD and no one has ever brought it up. I don't feel safe around them especially when they are driving. They seem sniff their fingers or touch their face so many times in a row to where I swear we will crash. They do it outside the car but I don't really care or notice as much. Every time it happens I feel so embarrassed for them and sad to where I just want to scream! It's been going on since I was little but didn't know what it could be till a couple years ago.
How do you bring it up or even confront someone that they must have OCD? I just want them to get help but I think they have too much pride. ![]() |

hmmmmmm. i have OCD, and people used to always joke around with me and say i had it. u should tell them about it regardless of if they will deny it, there's always a chance someone doesn't know what it is, or doesn't know there's a reason they do things compulsively

I'm 19 and I'm sure they would brush me off because of my age. |

They've said something before when we were talking about that subject of medication but not for OCD. They said "haha. i need to go on some!" but otherwise it never came up again and it isn't easy to bring it up. ![]() |

I think you should just be straight up and tell them you're concerned for them. Maybe you should show them some proof, like the signs they're showing on a paper.

I have OCD, and whenever my mom or friends wanna talk about it, they sit me down and talk seriously, or they politely yet casually if they have questions. Don't be abrasive. Maybe talk to you mum about it?

Do you have any family other than your dad?
I don't know if it would make it worse if you went to someone else or not. I have never dealt with that. Wish I could help more, sorry. |

Wish I could help more, sorry. i dont associate with my step family so, no. he has lived with it for 50 years so, i guess he can tolerate it but it's so annoying and i dont feel safe when he is having an episode while driving, ugh. what is it like to have serious OCD? why dont people just take the meds for it? there are meds right... just talk to him straight up. im not sure at a restaurent is the best place though, unless you are alone with him. yeah, they do have meds for it. |

^ Yeah, they dont work for me. I cant mess up a sentence when Im talking so I'll go over it again and again and again, usually until the person walks away, sometimes a few minutes after that. It's like "Hey little miss, Ive got puppies in my van. Wait, no. Hey little...should I...Little Miss, Ive got...no.....little.....Hello there...god no.....Hey little miss, would you like to peruse......no....hey missy...no......hmm....Hey yo' bitch, gimme some water...no......Excuse me little girl, would you like to see my puppies? Yes thats it. Hey, where'd she go?"

I wouldn't really know how to handle anyone with OCD seeing as the one person I knew who supposedly had it was an attention seeker and sort of set up a lot of prejudices for me.
Anyone ever seen As Good As It Gets? That really changed my perception of people with OCD from neurotic attention-seekers to real people with real problems. |
