Weed doesn't cause lung cancer like tobacco does.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...2501729_pf.html
I read about that earlier on this year. Apparently THC keeps cells from becoming cancerous.

And according to this article, it may fight lung cancer? I guess that's related to THC keeping cells from becoming cancerous.
http://www.forbes.com/health/feeds/hscout/...cout603764.html

Weed is likely to cause chronic bronchitis, though.

I hate when you cough or laugh while hittin it :(

Also it's unfair to say that weed is a definite amount as bad or worse than cigs. There are so many ways to smoke weed, not to mention, eating it. There are bongs, vapes, hookahs, blunts, joints, etc.

QUOTE(brooklyneast05 @ Jul 31 2007, 07:47 PM) *
i've heard that it was made illegal as a way to harass minorities, they made claims that it made minorities more violent. because supposedly (at the time this law was made) black and mexican communities preferred marijuana, while people of european descent preferred alcohol. the white people got to keep theirs, while the minorities didn't.

but that's just something i've heard that similar to what u said, i've never read that anywhere credible

it's obviously ridiculous no matter what, we all know ANY race is more likely to be violent while using alcohol

During prohibition weed was used in place of alcohol. I believe some politician created propaganda against weed so he could get elected into some office...or something like that.
That's what I get for not paying attention to the history channel.
It's been 70 years today since marijuana has been illegal.

If weed was legalized in Belgium, I think my dad would buy everything. Honestly? NO, it shouldn't. I can't bare people I love wasting their lives smoking that shit (except my dad). I'm going all emotional and I don't know why.

This post isn't constructive so just ignore it.

i used to think that pot was OMGZ so horrible.
sooooooo horrible. like... disgusting and dirty and the worst drug in the world.

until i smoked it for the first time may of last year.

and i would have to say....
during the time that i've smoked it..

i have been able to stop taking my anti-depressants, because it helps with my stress and mood levels.
i have been able to cope with my FMS (chronic pain condition called Fibromyalgia) much better than before.
aside from my own personal health, it also helps with MS, glaucoma, lung cancer, among other health issues.

and it's all in all, non medicinally, a social drug.

I've been a drinker for a long time, and i work in bars. I can easily say, I would much rather smoke a joint or a bowl, and get high, than get drunk any day.

Pot doesn't make you get up from your table and get into bar-fights, or pick fights with somebody just because they looked at you wrong. It doesn't make you act like a complete and total fool in the way that alcohol does.
Sure, you laugh a lot at the stupidest stuff (like ... your friend's face), but it can also open your creative side. I've made many graphic arts and digital pictures that i'm still super proud of when i've been under the influence of pot.
i've been able to analyze and realize things that i would never have even thought of if i were sober.
it's like a light goes off in your head and out of nowhere you think "omg! i just realied that the reason why i dont like ______ is because ____________ happened! no, seriously dude, think about it!" and you go off on your story and everybody understands.

what do you get from drinking?
a night of puking? bruises that you can't explain? hungover?

how often do you hear about high-driving accidents as opposed to drunk-driving accidents? how often do you hear about fights that happen when people are high, as opposed to drunk people?

i mean, granted, any kind of smoke you inhale into your lungs is going to be hazardous, but pot is nowhere near as harmful as cigarettes. considering the fact that avid pot smokers will smoke 2, maybe 3 joints a day... maybe more, if your'e more social... 5 joints a day, but still....
avid cigarette smokers will smoke up to 1-2 packs a day. (that's 20-40 cigarettes a day)

pot isn't legal because the government will not be able to tax it.
you can grow it yourself relatively easy... a hell of a lot easier than it is to make your own alcohol.
they tax the hell out of cigs, and alcohol. they can't make money off of pot, and they wouldn't be able to control the "drug trafficking" that would surely go into overdrive if it was legal.

Actually, the govt could tax pot. They would just have to start selling it. Believe me, people would start flocking to pharmacies or whoever sold it once it's legalized. The govt could also regulate it. I mean, Salvia is legal, why not pot?

not many people know about Salvia.... ;)

true the govt COULD tax pot, and COULD sell it, but... they wouldn't make too much money on it, because once it became legal, anybody could grow it themselves... who'd want to go buy it from the pharmacy for x amount when they can either grow it, or buy it from a friend for way less?

And i thought Salvia was only not illegal because it has never been approved by the FDA....

I forget the exact reason why Salvia is still legal, but shrug.gif
Also, I know tons of people who smoke and are too dumb or lazy to grow it on their own, or simply don't have the time or experience.

^ great debate there

i agree with steven, i think weed could be taxable and i think it would work out good. because i don't think the majority of people would go through the trouble to grow it themselves if they were just casual smokers, they'd just go buy some from a pharmacy just because it would be more convenient. especially younger people

I don't think anything is bad if its used in small amounts. I don't smoke weed though because I don't like smoking that much.

I don't see why it's illegal either. I just want to know why people do it to begin with? Is it fun? B/c personally, I can have fun without it. I get really giddy and bubbly and act stupid with my friends with or without being intoxicated.

I smoke every night if I have the money and if I have nothing to do. But it's f**kin expensive. Acid is pretty cheap, heroin is probably expensive, shrooms are marginal, New York weed is excellent, Ive heard that mid-west weed is so-so.

Anyways....what was the point of this? Oh yeah, weed is bad, dont do it. But if you're bored and you aint got nothin else goin on, smoke all you want. Make sure to buy some abstract paintings and find the hidden images. I just did it yesterday, twas awesome. Twas, twas.

Eh I used to smoke a couple days a week every week over the summer. It was kinda pressured onto me though, and I'm a lil turned off by it now. I have had some amazing experiences though. Once I went to Starbucks and lived another life while ordering a drink.

Drinking makes you a lot more lively, but also more prone to do stupid things. I have so many stupid drunk stories that I shudder to think of them. I havent gotten drunk in a while. Ive drank, but havent gotten drunk in a long time.

I like when Im drunk to the point where I wont do stupid things, but I'll start to do things without any regard of the consequences. This would be the time I call that girl a bitch, or I tell her she's f**king beautiful and I want her. This is also the time I come up with very funny things to say, it's what Im known for when I drink.

Do I thinks smoking weed is harmless? Well, no, not really. It's harmless if you just want to relax, but if you're going out and doing stuff, like driving, then no, thatd be a bad idea. When you're high, you dont really care what you say, so it's best not to talk to people you dont like.

Actually I would have to disagree with you. If they were to sell it, they would charge probably ten dollars more than what a gram costs. Medicinal pot is already twenty dollars. So, if they were to legalize it they would probably sell it for thirty a gram plus tax. At this time it would probably still be illegal to grow it or get it anywhere else.

Salvia does not last nearly as long as bud. Just a thought.

That's true but it's the concept. I mean, pot doesn't make you hallucinate and think you're getting attacked by an army of ants crawling out of the wall. I think people would still buy it if it were 30/gram. Actually, no one would pay 30/gram when they can buy it for 10/gram. If the govt charged say 50% more I think people would still buy, though. It would all depend on how the govt played their cards.
