Okay, let's get back on topic. Basically, this group is for people who only like music by how it sounds, but only if no one's ever heard of it before. I wouldn't doubt that AThorpedo or whatever the hell her (or his?) name is has never had a single class of music appreciation or studied an instrument, and judges their music solely by how it sounds. If (s)he doesn't like the way your music sounds, it's because it's not up to the standards that she herself set because she is fooling herself into thinking that she is a musical expert. (Sorry, I gave up on determining your sex and just chose female because I like the way it sounds.) So if you like any of these mystery bands that have mysteriously not made it big yet (I wonder why), and like to deny people their rights to enjoy their music, just because you don't like it, this is the group for you!

No, kids, no. Taking the time to explore different types of music and more obscure artists is a GOOD thing, whereas assuming that something is good simply because it's popular is certainly not. Why settle for mediocre music you only think you enjoy just because it's easy to come by? If you only listen to mainstream artists, and when you do try to find new music, you only pick up on bands that sound exactly the same as the stuff you already listen to, that isn't taste. Being open-minded enough to find music you genuinely like is a great thing, but if you pass it off as pretension then you're pretty much hopeless.

You can't assume that something is good or bad from whether it is popular or not. Yes, listen to what you like, but put effort into finding the music that suits you best, and don't settle for something simply because it's catchy and easily accessible.

Hmm, I kind of agree with CowerPointyObject's point, but I also think that this club is mislabled.

A music elitist, in my opinion, should have an extensive knowledge of music including all genres; he/she would not restrict herself to mainstream or a certain few genres of music. Therefore, most of us are not eligible for such a title (myself included).

Are you people insane? How insecure and defensive towards your taste in music do you have to be in order to take this so damned seriously? In order to know anything about music I would have to major in music? Is it really that hard to believe that it is possible to appreciate music and explore it without taking f**king classes for it? As opposed to listening to tons and tons of music for years and years, I have to have a doctorate in music before I can say that I probably know more than you? Are any of you even reading what you are typing? Do you know how marketing music works? How familiar with tongue-in-cheek humor are you, really?

I don't know if it wasn't obvious enough that I wasn't completely serious, even mocking myself at points when I ended a post with something like, "REPRESENT TRU PUNX" but wow do you guys take things seriously. Even my inital post said, "We will be a bowel irritation with a dope record collection." I told that tung idiot that he should be called Mario because he just got one up'd. None of this struck any of you as just a little silly? I can understand being even a little offended by this, but I don't feel like I was being exceptionally cryptic here.

I'm not going to lie, I was a little proud that I was able to embody so much chaos with just one thread telling people that I have better taste than them, but now I'm more confused than anything. I honestly wanted to continue on with this, I really did. I was going to keep telling you guys how you should stop listening to music, and I was going to have a grand old time. It just went over pretty much everybody's head, though.

Considering how defensive everyone got regarding this issue, I really should have seen more lists. You all obviously feel some sort of passion for the music you like, based on your reactions, so why didn't you give it a shot? If I could at least tell that you were open to exploring music, liked things that are a little different from the norm, and if I could find something respectable regarding your taste, it wouldn't have been this bad. Instead, you just assumed that I was going to hate what you put no matter what. How presumptuous and insecure. Stop being so serious and get silly.

I still want to keep this going. I want to see more lists. I want some opinions of my list after someone has actually listened to the majority of the albums/bands instead of just assuming it's bad. (For the record, if I said you listened to bad bands, it's because I have listened to them; I didn't write them off before hearing them. "It's obscure for a reason." Yeah, because there is no profit to be had in a 3-song E.P. performed by a homeless, alcoholic punk f**ked up on drugs. A band that is a mixture of hardcore punk, screamo, and freeform jazz is not marketable in the least. That's how the industry works, guys.) This can still be fun. Like I said. Stop being so serious and get silly. If you guys feel that sore about it, tell me to make a top 20 for something you are passionate about. I don't know shit about cars. Tell me why I shouldn't be allowed to drive one on the basis that my favorite cars are lame. I don't know shit about fish. Actually, I had every intention of posting a list, but I got distracted and never got around to it.

But as I am a procrastinator extraordinare, here is a list for you (in no particular order).

1. The New Pornographers- Twin Cinema
-You've establshed your distaste for power-pop, but nevertheless, this album is power-pop perfection, and I love it.
2. Pavement- Brighten the Corners
-I don't care that Slanted and Enchanted is more acclaimed, I prefer this one. Although you really can't go wrong with Pavement at all.
3. Regina Spektor- Mary Ann Meets The Gravediggers And Other Short Stories
-Yeah, it's technically a compilation, but I prefer it as an album to the rest of Regina's stuff. Her most recent album isn't worth acknowledging.
4. Jens Lekman- Oh You're So Silent Jens
-Swedish God. Mhm.
5. Sonic Youth- Goo
6. Yann Tiersen- Yann Tiersen and Shannon Wright
-I discovered this particular album fairly recently, but it struck me more than most anything else has recently.
7. The Postal Service- Give Up
-It doesn't matter what you think of Ben Gibbard; I still adore this album.

-No, I don't read Pitchfork. I took a couple of listens to appreciate her voice, but it's amazing.
