What do you look for when deciding how good of a tip a waiter gets?
I see how many of the free appetizers they bring me rofl. Outback Steakhouse bread. Mexican restaurants, better keep the salsa/guacamole sauce filled. Italian restaurants, I want a lot of bread/oil. Oh man, what if someone was a great waiter, and you left them a tip on the receipt that said "Brush your teeth before you go to bed" |

Steven, you're on a roll with these topics today!
Um, basically I look at the service and how well they treat me. Like if I need anything, how quickly do they handle it, and so on. |

At the Chinese restaurants, those guys have tendencies to forget to bring something when you ask for it - seeing how busy the restaurant is and the loud volume within it...so my dad just leaves the change from the bill. Which is always like a couple dollars.

Rice is better at restaurants instead of my mom cooking it.
Free fortune cookies = bonus points |

Man, it's all about the free commodities. Amen!! They better be keeping that shit coming, as well as the drinks filled. And what Steph said, it's also based on how well they served me. If they took twenty minutes just to come get my drink order, it's not looking good. Side note, just ate at Pei Wei and they took about a year to bring us a Pei Wei spicy chicken salad..wtf |

If they do not give me a refill for my soda BEFORE I finish the one I am drinking and I have to WAIT to get another one, then I wont give them anymore than 15%. Armond and I usually tip at least $5 and then we go from there.

Oh yes, soda refills. I hate waiting like 15 mins for another drink. I f**k w/ the waiter/waitress if they sux0r at that. Well, not really, but I unscrew the light bulbs and screw them back in each time they pass by and it confuses them.
There was this one waiter we had, this one time. Okay so it was I think 5 guys and a few girls (I say few because they don't matter in this story). Maybe 6 guys. We were @ Outback Steakhouse. They brought the entire table 2, I repeat TWO, loaves of bread. Those things ain't THAT big. Anyways, my friend and I each grab an entire loaf for ourselves rofl, leaving none for anyone else. Mean, yes. Anyways, the waiter ends up bringing us each our own loaf, and our own thing of butter. It was awesome. He walked out of the kitchen with like 9 loaves of bread. |

Well, from watching my parents tip at fancier restaurants, it usually depends on how drunk the waiters get them (you know, pushing refills on the alcohol). The drunker my dad is, the higher the tip.
![]() If it was up to me though, it would definitely be the service, and how quick they are to notice if my drink is empty or something. |

I love Americans.
Y'all are SO good with tips, you know. I love when we get people from the airbase in. And I just tip generously, because speaking from experience, it's usually not the waiters' fault when something goes wrong... Generally it is in the kitchen/behind the bar, and we get to deal with it. Attitude is the biggest factor. At least bullshit with a smile on your face, you know? |

I tip based on how well they treated me.
I'll give you an example: I was at Chili's and the lady came up to take my order, and then she came up to give me my bill. That was it. Someone else brought out our food, and we didn't ever get refills on water or anything.. Soo yeah. That wasn't cool. I agree with James about attitude as well. |

How many times they fill my cup.
Did they interrupt me and my guest when they did their job, or were they smooth? Did they have a personality (was it annoying?)? Did they look clean? Did they fuck up my order? Did they apologize if the food took to long to cook? Did they thank me for comming? want me to keep going... |

I think once you work in the industry, you tip a lot better. I know that after I was a waitress, I started feeling a lot sympathy for them and constantly find myself sticking up for them. |

I've had this question about fortune cookies for awhile - do they put the paper in, THEN cook it? Or the other way around? 'Cause then that's the only way that makes sense.
