I'd like to propose an official members lounge. It'd be pretty much the same as the current lounge, except it would only be open to official members (and everyone else that's not just a common member)

be a nice way to give another perk, and give people a place to bond without all the riff raff getting in and interfering.

I'm not trying to say that you should pretend to be enthusiastic about it. I was merely pointing out that it wouldn't have hurt you to not throw in the bit about not liking it but "giving the kids what they want."

I don't dislike it, that was the point.

But I appreciate your advice.

Okay, maybe you don't dislike it, that's not what I'm arguing.

That last bit you threw in is an example of one of the things left better unsaid. While you might not have been trying to convey it in a cocky better-than-you manner, that's how it came out(to me, at least).

Then again, this is the internet, where all things are easily misinterpreted.

Well, I appreciated your advice. How would you have said that?

I would have included it in the sentence I was typing and possibly have thrown on a thumbs up emoticon or something. I wouldn't have hit enter a couple times and made it seem like a retort after you tried to prove a point that I wasn't arguing about.

I find the emoticons far more patronizing, because I generally use them sarcastically. Interpretation is a bitch.

And I wasn't trying to prove anything to you, it was an incidental, because you seemed to think I dislike the idea of the OM Lounge, which I don't. That's all.

I call everyone 'kids,' my friends, parents, and bosses included. It's just a thing. Maybe if people got to know me rather than got defensive, they would know that.
Bad reason.

And I would've worded your original post more appropriately.

Not really. It isn't the be all and end all of it, I just think it would be more effective to get to know someone rather than default to lecture mode. But Steven was perfectly entitled to express his opinion.

And had I been aware that there was anything even vaguely inappropriate about my original post, I'd have considered it.

James. I saw your post as you quoting something, hence the quotation marks. I didn't feel that it was condecending.

Well... it wasn't a quote. But I'm glad you took it the right way.

I don't like it. This kind of exclusivity isn't promoting subculture, it's promoting elitism. What can you talk about as an official member in the official member forum that you can't talk about in the regular forum? Is this really a "perk"? How so?

The only reason why I care is because I'm about to lose my OM status and I think this OM forum will make it hard for me to talk to my friends. But, whatever. I'm not about to post useless things to get my PPD up.

To be honest, Fae, I kind of side with you in so far as 'what is the point?', but really, my take on it is kind of 'let the kids have what they want.'

Ah kk, I just interpreted it that way after seeing Fae say she didn't like it then you saying you kind of side with her shrug.gif

^ I don't think that's true. In fact, I actively refute that statement.

Steven, fine, I see what you mean. No, what I meant was that I agreed in so far as I didn't see that it would be extremely effective in acomplishing anything. However, I don't think it would necessarily be detrimental, and thus if some people want it, I'm happy to support it on their behalf.

I neither actively like nor dislike it.
