I added a few things since I last posted quite a while ago...

Just wondering what people think about it.

I made the banner at the top of the page. It randomly displays one of ten different pictures when it is loaded.
I was using this banner which fits the page much nicer with the color scheme, but I just wanted something cool and person on there that stood out. And I took every picture that is displayed on the banner and page itself while on vacation, so it makes it a little more personal to me and the people who were with me at those times.

I also added a LYRICS thingymabob that you can put your mouse over to view the lyrics for the song at the bottom of the page, it should work in both IE and FF now.

So ya... just let me know what you think!

That's really horrible. The randomly sized boxes are killing me. And its all just so.. boring.

i love your layout actually , i really like how where its says these are my friends when you hover it displays their names.

I like this layout also. I think it's pretty unique, and I love the friends list rollovers.

what makes it boring? and how are the randomly sized boxes "killing" you?

I had just a scrolling marquee for the friends, but then came up with that idea for the rollovers.

I used only two different images for all the friends.
One for the normal state and one for the rollover state.
And just used background-position to move the image for each div/friend into the right place.
The two images are 170kb together, if I used a different image for every friend it would have been a total of ~ 800kb
so i saved a lot of time on loading for some people with that.

the danny faded part on the danny dahl banner doesn't really look right. i ono, it doesn't really look organized.

everything. Most people here in CB say thats looks great or whatever. when it's actually not. take a good look and be honest. dont follow the crowd... oh that looks wonderful when at all it doesn't.

well it's okay, im not saying its the best, but theres nothing bad about it...and i wont lie just to make someone feel good about a myspace....

The whole banner just doesn't suit the whole layout. Also, the randomly-sized boxes make it look a lot less organized, so maybe you could place your boxes in a more neater manner and with even sizes. The rollover and the lyrics look pretty creative, but I just think they should be placed in a way that looks more organized. Overall, the layout needs much more than a few random brushes in the background. It looks too white, therefore giving it a plain and boring look. Nice job for a beginner though.

I was kinda aiming for a little bit of randomness and disorder, so I didn't want every box to line up, be the same size, etc.

As for the banner, again, this is the banner that I was using, but I just threw up the current one because I was workin on the cgi script that would return a random image. I like the idea of it, but I think it will look better if I apply a colorize all of the banner images to match the rest of the page. It would lose it's vividness, but it shouldn't stand out that much anyways...

The comment box may seem out of place because when I first created the profile, I was going for small - I didn't have a music player, no banner, shorter friends box, and a shorter about me section. So I scrunched the comment box up tight to the top right... should probably change it though.
I think I'll make it like 50 px tall and throw it under the picture or by the music player.

Also, I just went from having a single song and change it every couple days, I made a playlist of a bunch of songs, so I'm gonna work on making a new player skin that has a song selection/playlist view.

I was thinking about using the same layout and everything as my portfolio, but I like the randomness of my profile right now.

I really like this layout, it's not my thing but I can definately appreciate it. I think the boxes are fine being off on their own positions, I see no reason to have everything ordered, so yea, nice one!

Personally, the thing that irks me is the large white space at the bottom for no real reason. It makes it seem to me that there should be more content but there isn't. The random splatters in the corner don't do anything for me either.

It sort of makes it seem like you were painting a masterpiece, screwed up, and then didn't bother to fix it. And I think the thing that miffs people about the random boxes is that the pic, about and friends vaguely seems to line up to the eye and then WHAM! There's the comment box and music player floating in thin air. It's slightly weird.

But, like I tell everyone, my advice sucks.

IT just doesn't flow together at all. I can't stand that. Theres a lot of open and un-used space that I'm sure you could take advantage and make it useful.

Also the random brushes doesn't really work for the layout I don't think.

Just have some more practice, never give up and i'm sure you'll come up with something amazing

This layout was inspired by IVIike's layout titled Over It

I fixed the white space at the bottom, I hadn't removed it yet because I had room for where the lyrics for the song popped up.

What did you use for linking?

because a lot of your links look too close to the background's detail to be place on separate divs. The only conclusion I can come to is that you sliced it up in Photoshop..

Danny, I think your layout looks really good. I love the fact it is TRULY so personalized. I hit refresh about 10x to watch the banner change images. I love your blending and the font on the background... the colors are real nice too. Even the friends rollovers are really nice. I only wish you did something a little different with the content font, it's so boring but that is always my complaint with *plain font*. Don't be discouraged at all, I think some of these people are biased and snobbish and would drown if it rained. They are all stuck in the same STEREOTYPE and don't understand everything doesn't have to be colorized and brushed over a million times to be art. I like the randomness and the personality your page has Looking forward to your next page

Willy - Everything is in separate div's or an image or a link that is positioned like a div.

Jilian - I really like your layout It's pretty cool for a default layout. Really simple and to the point. I really like the select box for your top friends. Oh, and I like the song, never heard it before, I left your page open while doing some other things and now the song is stuck in my head haha

IVIike - Yup, no prob.

Thomas - "Maybe with more measuring and positioning" ? I obviously didn't try to make things line up... if I wanted them to be lined up and all in order, they would be. I just think it would look too plain/boring with everything the same width/height/position.

FoxLucky - First off, I'd like to say thanks for the enthusiastic constructive criticism
As for the font, I have a lot of fonts I would like to use but they aren't common fonts everyone has, so I think I might end up using an image of the text, so I can use any font I like.

Oh and my next layout should be done sometime in the next few weeks, so I'll be sure to post when I'm close to finishing it.


Also, I whipped up a new skin for the music player, so you can view the playlist.
Font is a little small but a couple of the song titles are cut off if it's any bigger. Small sacrifice for not having to abbreviate track names.

And I ao wish I could do that, but since you're asking for opinions here you go, I really think the first banenr would look better, and the layout you're inspirated with its short and not as confusing as youre boxes are, I m thinking like yeah have a simple pattern for the order.. oh and I love the hovers (are they called tht?) of your friends its the coolest
