^ ... Way to contribute nothing to the thread. How about reading one or two of the posts?

And don't you mean "should've", not "shouldn't"?

Skateboarding is against that city's ordinance laws. Therefore, it's punishable. Saying that kids shouldn't be punished for breaking the law doesn't make any sense.

It's against the law to ride a dirtbike on a public street - so that makes it punishable. I don't see cops chasing kids on dirtbikes. Only skateboards.

& where do you come off saying that I've contributed nothing to the thread? - not to go off topic but I'm curious.

EDIT ; I read the whole thread. :]]

Just because you don't see it on YouTube doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Cops do chase after kids (and even adults) on dirt bikes riding on the street/sidewalk. Read some newspapers... or search google. I'm sure you'll "see" something.

And though the thread didn't mention "dirt bikes" specifically, we pretty much ruled that anyone abusing the law in this regard should be punished. Dirt bikes, bike messengers, skateboarders... the whole shebang. This is tiring.

Now, you can probably debate why you don't like these laws, that'll fly fine.

Uh - that wasn't what I was getting at. I was saying that around my town I see kids getting stopped by cops because of skateboards, but I have yet to see someone get stopped because of a dirtbike. I don't even see it in newspapers.

Public streets are ideal for skaters because there's tons of stuff to grind on, jump over, etc. Dirt biking is for dirt. You probably don't see cops chasing after kids on dirtbikes because kids don't dirtbike on public streets. At least not where I live.

And I said that because you didn't say anything supporting your statement as to why you think the skateboarders shouldn't have gotten in trouble when it was already stated that it was legitimate that they get punished. If you have a problem with the law itself, you could've presented points about that.

Also, I'm quite sure that riding a bike is acceptable by most cities' ordinance laws. If it isn't in your city and your brother can get away with it while skaters don't, I'd understand why you're upset.

I'm not upset - but I am saying, my brother rides his dirtbike on a public street & he skateboards on a public street. He's gotten in trouble by the cops countless times for skateboarding - but never has he gotten in trouble for riding the bike.

Oh, because I googled as soon as you mentioned dirt bikes, and I saw that there are adults and kids who have gotten in trouble for riding dirtbikes on public streets. So apparently, they do get in trouble. Maybe those cops that stalk your brother don't know the difference btw a regular bike and a dirt bike? *Shrugs*.

You said you never saw cops getting on people for riding bikes and I thought you meant that in general, not around your town. A misunderstanding, is all.

Basically, what we're getting at here is that if skateboarders (and the likes--dirt bikers included) follow the rules, then cops should have no business hunting them down like that. However, if they break the rules, they should be punished like any other lawbreaker.

I agree with that .. I just don't really understand why skateboarders can't ride on the streets. People can ride a bike on the streets. It's whatever though, I don't do either. Ha.

Wait... what? Skateboarders are subjected to the same laws bicyclists must adhere to generally. Where do you get that skateboarders are banned from skateboarding on streets? They are banned (and if not, should be) from private property, but I thought they're allowed on public streets so long as they do not pose a threat.

Which city ordinance says this?

smoking crack is a way of life... wow, let's free all the crack dealers, yo! they're not criminals, it's their way of life!

On a serious note, a lot of things can be argued to be "a way of life", but if that way of life disturbs private property and abuses public property, it's gotta go. Kick the habit, or be kicked.

Uh, I take it you didn't read the thread or else you'd be thinking differently. But good for you!

And I don't have to think about it. I just have to be informed on laws and read some newspapers. This shit's everywhere.

The video is remarkably biased. The skaters were breaking the law. Period. If you break the law, expect to be punished by the enforcers of the law.

And clearly it didn't show from the beginning. The cop most likely warned them numerous times before being forced to handcuff them. And did you not notice when the kids were trying to struggle from the policemens' grasp? How thick-headed do you have to be to do that? And then have the nerve to try and gain public sympathy through the internet? Or possibly to seem like cool rebels? Pathetic!!

Sorry, I'm firm believer in the law when it's reasonable and disallowing unruly kids from becoming public disturbances is perfectly reasonable to me. stubborn.gif

As to why skating is illegal? It's a disruption! Do you know how annoying it is to be near roadkill from reckless skaters?

There are skate parks for a reason. Stay there and stop trying to be rebels.

Aren’t you a skater, katt?
I still remember your old username something like ruggedkatt? Something like that.

IMO, Skateboarding is perfectly okay as long you don’t ruin any property. If there a place designed for skateboarding, do whatever you want.

Honestly, I don’t like the sign saying, “no skateboarding”, because I skateboard and do not do any tricks that damage the property.

Hmm, good point, but define "damage to property". You mean like physical, tangible damages?
