So, I just got a call from one of my friends and she got me a job, and the boss wants me to start working tomorrow.

But, I only kind-of applied for the job yesterday, and by kind-of I mean I told my friend to ask her boss if she needed to hire anyone, and now here I am expected to come into the office as soon as possible. I'm nervous, it'll be my first job and my first time and experience in a work place. I do know what to wear, but I'm a girl and we never know what to wear. How do I go about talking to the boss and my " co- workers " and doing my job and things like that ?

Suzy, girl. I been grown up honey. Lol Jk jk.

I love how people reply to my topic.
I'm also hoping to get another job at a big park in another side of town where I'll start off selling tickets and cones to feed the goats and stuff, then I'm upgraded to working the merry-go-round and stuff.

I wish I could get a job that easily...
I've applied at about 15 different places and haven't getten a single call.
because no one wants to hire a 16 yr old with no employment history.

as for your new job, just don't freak out too much, they'll tell you what all they expect and stuff like that.
The key is to be calm and confident when starting any new job.

no, they dont want to hire someone who isn't interested in the job. it's your responsibility to call them and show you're interested rather than taking the easy route and hoping they'll call you. trust me. call them to set up an interview and i bet half the places would hire you if you actually took that step.

Yeah, it does take getting used to new coworkers and the work environment, but I'm sure you'll do fine. _smile.gif

Don't start of being rude or anything, it's your first day, new environment, just talk with a 'happy' tone in your voice, idk I didn't talk much.

See, that to me demonstrates pushiness, and a disregard for their porcedures. I recommend you apply, and allow for them to contact you if they're interested.

Bella, just generally be friendly and polite... The people you meet at work are only other people. Get along with them like you would anyone else. Confidence goes a long way, too.

At least you got a job.
They wouldn't even take me at the supermarket, and they take EVERYONE. My whole class practically works there since they hire 14 and up.

its fine just act confident and b yourself and if u tend to say what your thinking dnt!!!! it will do more harm than damage at work!

maybe it's different here. i know at my job, they won't hire anyone unless they come for an interview on our open interview days. just dropping off an application does nothing and it probably gets thrown away.

Actually, Spencer has a valid point. This happened to me failry recently. I interviewed for a position somewhere, completely aced the interview and wondered why I never got 'the call.' My mom works there and they told her that they were really upset that I didn't call and thank them for the interview and me not following up was why I wasn't hired.

That isn't always the standard, but it never hurts to follow up.

I haven't started working working (without training) yet so I feel you. But really I think you'll be fine. Some of my friends from training told me that its not as hard to make friends at the job. You're a pretty cool person so I doubt it will be that hard. Just be yourself and have fun is what they told me. So I have a feeling it will be fine. I'm nervous as heck still but hey I don't think either of our first days will turn out bad. :)

That's pretty much the secret. Also, uhm, if they start joking around with you, don't take anything they say seriously. Joke-wise. It took me forever when people were joking to figure out that they weren't. whistling.gif I felt so retarded.

Just relax and breathe. My first day was an 8 hour shift as a cashier during the christmas holidays. I almost died. Haha. But I survived. And so will you.

Dude, my first day was f**king awesome. The people who work there are hella fun and we all started talking and laughing as we did our work right away. The day went by reaally fast but the last hour kind of dragged on but i was still happy. =D I love my job as of the moment, but then again it was just the first day.

Still happy tho ! =D

not to be a downer, but it always goes by fast the first couple of days...then after that, the time seems to stop.

congrats on having fun, though.
