So in class we were discussing sexism in language aaaaand this's what came up:
You would call a male negatively a "jerk", which, overall, isn't so bad. On the other hand, you would call a female negatively a "bitch", which, when compared to "jerk", is worse. You would call an overly-confident male "cocky", but a female a "cocky bitch". Definitely worse for the girl. Then there's the phrase "son of a bitch", which is most literally an insult to the mother, not the male. ....did all of that belong in the RANDOM thread? Probably. |
