Do you own your own domain name? Are you a hostee? Do you redirect? Or do you just use something like Freewebs or Geocities? I'm hosted under another domain. I really really want my own domain sometime. _dry.gif

Yeah, I got my domain for free, too. happy.gif
I'm hosted under Synced.org, . . . excellent hosting.

I still feel somewhat confused, actually. To both Mark and Maestro, when you say 'hosting', does that mean web space or your actual domain address?

I used to have a sub-domain, but at the moment... I have nothing.
I'm too lazy and busy to keep up a site right now.

Hosting is web space. The actual address is registering, am I correct? Usually, hosting is free. But sometimes they give out domain names. Like the .be craze. Oh man. XD.gif

I had a subdomain a year ago. Then it got shut down because my host deleted all of the sundomains. I still have one Kris got me though. dance.gif I want to get a domain, but I'm hesitant about it.

Yeah. Basically what tic tac said.

Web hosting and domain name are two different things. The domain name just links to your web hosting, where all of your files are. (Hopefully I'm not sounding stupid. XD.gif)

Oh okay, so you're saying that you got your HOSTING free, not the actual address.

I have my own domain. I don't plan on ever hosting anyone though, unless I know them well enough to trust them. Buying your own domain is cheap nowadays, though. So is hosting for that matter (unless you become a hostee). Surprass hosts my website for $6 a month. That's a meal an McDonalds for me. Not too shabby.

some hosting sites offer a free .com/.net etc. with their plan and some don't
I got my own personal domain and subdomain for stuff out side of graphics...

freewebs helped me get a feel for having a website up, before i went and bought my domain address.... but many start at freewebs or other forms of freewebsites...

but if u want a free site with hosting look into the site mark gave out... or surf around... alot of people offer subdomains for free as well

I have a domain (hosted by my lovely twin, Monet). I paid for the domain and she's hosting me for free so I didn't pay for that. Previously I paid $22 and got 20gb? of webspace and a free domain. Its dreamhost promo code plan thing. They were alright. But yea :]

Okay. So I currently have my web hosting with Synced at http://www.synced.org, which is free and has really good features.

For my domain, I got it for free at http://www.d4free.net, but the community's been dead for a few months now, so I don't recommend getting a domain there right now. You could get a domain at http://www.domainlagoon.com, but it's kind of confusing to get since you have to answer tons of surveys in order to earn your free domain.

If you can't or don't want to get a domain anymore, Synced gives you a free subdomain; something like you.synced.org. _smile.gif

I own and pay for my own domain/webspace, but I'm ashamed - I don't really use it at all. I should get on that. sweating.gif

I guess you can refer to this:

Can't vouch for it's reliability but I came across this and thought I would share it with those looking for free hosting.
Note: Not all their plans are free, just the basic one which offers 500 mb in webspace and 200 GB in monthly traffic.

I pay for my own hosting (new re-seller account, yay.) and own my own domain(s). I've also bought domains for a couple of people, including Jeng (the other Melissa) & I also host for free.

It seems pretty good, but there is a $5 setup fee.

Wow, that actually does look really good! Problem with myself though, is the money, even though $5 for everything is hecka cheap. I don't have a credit card. And even if I asked my parents, they'd be like...WTF is a domain? And I don't want to go through that whole process. Besides, they'll probably end up thinking it's something useless that's just going to make more pedophiles come find me or something. rolleyes.gif
