This is the best thing to have happened for a while. Shows how fake human sincerity can be. You guys are prime examples. Why do you guys even care about this thing unless it directly affected you.

I think his girlfriend cheated on him with some other guy. Since his gf goes to Virginia Tech, that's why he started going all crazy there. His gf died too.

QUOTE(Lilium @ Apr 16 2007, 4:00 PM) *
I just tried calling most of my friends that go to VT and I can't get through. I wonder if this is anything like what the families felt during the 9-11 ordeal.

QUOTE(.misoshiru @ Apr 16 2007, 4:27 PM) *
I have a friend at VTech, and I got to her through facebook, so I'm feeling so relieved.

She lives in East Ambler Johnston, right beside the dorm where the shootings took place.

LOL Wow th5418 you didn't bother reading any posts did you? Maybe you just got finished playin Super Nintendo and you're living in a virtual world if you don't think it doesn't effect us all. This particular incident could happen anywhere else.

You're right, this incident can happen anywhere else. So why does this incident deserve special treatment. Nobody bats an eye at the people dying in Africa of AIDs or even at that one forsaken place called Darfur. Nobody bats an eye at the diamond mines they have in Niger. Nobody batted an eye at the school shooting that happened in Quebec a couple months back. But this deserves special treatment. Human sincerity, what a joke.
QUOTE
I agree that sincerity is questionable especially in cases like these where not everyone is directly affected but I don't think that it's right to generalize everyone in that category...

I agree, I will generalize that for 90% of the population.

Strangely, I always had an irking feeling that something tragic would happen on a college campus. Given all the protests, the occasional riot, the bomb threats that happened infrequently; all thanks to young men and women struggling to find themselves in a world where beliefs clash. I don't know what this guy's motives were, but the likelihood of it happening (on any college campus where people push the lines of extremism), has always been pretty high.

In a situation like this, what do you do? Lock down a college campus like a military base? Set up gate guards and ahve metal detectors? Make people carry clear backpacks and wear uniforms? Cut back on political activism and multiculturalism? What can you do? I had a Glock 22 in college (and in high school), but it certainly wasn't for a killing spree, it was in case karma kicked in or if something incredibly scary happened.

On the contrary , there are people who give a damn and do all they can to help out with AIDS in Africa like Alicia Keys. What about Oprah building a school for disadvantaged kids in Africa? So you think no one knows about the diamond mines although last year Kanye blazed the air waves with Diamonds are forever, and the movie Blood Diamond came out late part of last year. And for the record the Quebec shooting was all over CNN the day it happened.

Although the chances are not likely, makes me scared to go to school tomorrow. But for the most part people will probalby continue to do things like they normally do.

Hey hey, I didn't know Alicia Keys, Oprah, Kanye, and movie producers did this out of the will of their good hearts soley. Oh, I also didnt know that these four people represent all of America! I'm sure I have a part of Oprah in me somewhere.

EDIT : Sure, people know about them. They bat an eye at them and go "oh, damn poor people living in crappy places and working for such crappy wages." Then they go back to eating fillet mignon.

KC: I agree. All it takes is a spark to burn the place down. Who knows, this may be the beginning of violence to come. People need to get a grip on shit, man. Our society is deteriorating from within.

Robbi A!: Agreed. Blood Diamond was damn good.

th4567890: I see what you're getting at, but don't try to downplay one topic because you feel as though another is more important. Example; what if you knew someone or had family at Virginia Tech and they fell victim to the mass murderer? Would you give two shits about terminal illness in Africa then?

Thats why I included unless you were involved directly. See, I don't give two poops about AIDs in Africa nor do I give two pees about this shooting. But I do give two dungs about human fakeness.

Cute.

So is it even worth asking why you even bothered to post here and comment about the event? Actually, no, don't answer that. Stay in your bubble. You're better off there.

"Ignoring awareness is worse than being aware of your own ignorance."

SONNED.

Moving on...

What shocks me more than anything, is that the news here (Global Armed Forces Network) is really downplaying the shooting. I remember when Columbine went down, the country was in an uproar. There was a noticeable panic and concern in the eyes of everyone who discussed it. I watch the news, and its heavily covered, but there's a very nonchalant attitude about it. Like, "Its sad, but oh well, this crime probably won't get solved. LETS BLAME SOMEONE!!!111"

Now i dont want to get into any arguments but i just think right now is not the greatest time to be talking about insincerity. I know what you are talking about how we are just saying its sad and then going back to regular life, and i agree, but there are people on createblog that truly care and have friends or family that are involved, making them also involved with this whole situation.
