lol, it's been such a long time since i've been in this situation.
i don't think this has happened since freshman year in highschool
but if i remember correctly, i'd usually smile and say hello.

or just completely ignore him

same here, usually i say hi, and just go to my next class/locker. if they have a class with me sometimes pretend i'm busy and wait until they start leaving, and then catch up with them to start a conversation.
