Alright, this is the first real positive feedback I have had on this site.
Well, here it goes... Intro We have all these contests on CB, but none of them really mean anything or do anything. Most of them are to increase the amount of activity on the site, but do you ever really win anything? Do you really get anything more than just a pat on the back? No, you don't. You merely await next months contest, and pray to God you win the *blank* of the year award. Well, I have an idea that will bring new life to all these "contests". The Idea If you haven't noticed, everyone on this site has a "Member's Card". Your Member's Card displays a short bit of information about your profile (contact info, user name, homepage, etc... ), and is accessible via the bottom right hand corner of each and every post you make. I'm suggesting that they add an "Awards" or "Achievements" section to the "Member's Card" and "Profiles". It would contain miniature medal icons that differ depending on the contest won. For example: Blogger: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold Blogger "B" depending on the award won (Month/Year). LiveJournal: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold LiveJournal "Pencil" depending on the award won (Month/Year). Myspace: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold Myspace.com emblem depending on the award won (Month/Year). Website: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold "WWW" depending on the award won (Month/Year). Xanga: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold Xanga emblem (five squares) depending on the award won (Month/Year). Design: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold Mouse and Paintbrush together depending on the award won. Lounge: The icon might look like a mini silver or gold medal for member of the (month/year), and a mini silver or gold ribbon for staff member of the (month/year). I'm sure you can think of many others, but I want to focus more on the idea itself. (although it's easy to think about it.. this is the fun part.) This awards section might look something like this: ![]() note: actual medals would look a lot better than this... I stole these off google images... This would encourage people to contribute to the community in a positive way. Members would try harder to compete in contests so that they could win awards that would be permanently added to their profile. It would also encourage people to move to more than one section of the forums. People would want to collect as many of these medals as they possibly could. They would move to other sections of the site looking for more competition. I don't see any drawbacks to this Idea... please... I would like your input Input Holly: A feature that allows you to click on the medal to view the reason it's on the members profile/card. Josh: You cannot have more than one or the same type of medal. That way the section doesn't become crowded. (Example: If you win member of the month twice you cannot have medal. If you win member of the year, your silver medal becomes gold.) kayceeisms: There should be separate badges for each contest. We have plenty of good designers on CB to make new badges if need be. There should be a system that allows a mod to upload a new badge to be added to a users profile. incoherent: This is a great idea, but it shouldn't be a substitute for physical prizes. They shouldn't put the idea of physical prizes away just because they implement this. MiSSxMELON: I think there should be a sort of standard, or set way. Like recurring contests (weekly, monthly, etc.) that have medals that are familiar and recognized - not just one-time contests in which people may or may not remember what the medal was for. Although this would seemingly limit contests, it does not have to. Contests that are not recurring could just not offer medals. This way, there would be casual and formal competitions, in a sense. |

I am for the idea of giving out medals as prizes for contests. However, before it is implemented (if it ever is), there is much organization to be done. For instance, I don't think just anyone should be able to create a contest and a medal. There would be way too many, and it would be difficult to keep track. However, I think everyone should have the chance to create a contest. It should be submitted (with a medal graphic), like how graphics and layouts have their own submission form. This way people could keep track of contests and make sure they're well organized. And, I think there should be a sort of standard, or set way. I agree with this, except I think that one-time contests should give the winner a standard badge for that section. Example: You win a contest in the humor section, and you win the Humor badge.... etc... |

this is really a good idea. you ought to be awarded a good idea of the month award! =) will definitely be implemented for cb4. cb4 will have personal profile pages, which is where the awards can go. --- also in the past, we did have prizes like psp and razr for more involved contests like redesigning the site, but no one ended going for them. =( |

I like this idea much better now that it can be used with the personal profiles. It didn't seem worth it before, but now, s'all good.

Wow, thanks James... it's great that you finally realized it was a great idea... Well Josh, it didn't really have a place in our old profiles and now it does, ergo making it a much better idea with cb4 (which I am SOO excited for!!). Still, good job though :) Maybe the first award could go to you (the good idea award)!! Hopefully this will encourage more members to put their ideas back here as well. |

Well, it finally BECAME a great idea, but you're welcome, I suppose. Thank you... You have to understand why I'm skeptical though... it just seems to convenient for you to come out of no-where thinking it was a great idea as soon as Ju-sun came in posting his thoughts. I guess you really give me the impression that you out of your way to disagree with me in every way you possibly can. It's as if it benefits you to think it's a great idea all of the sudden because Ju-sun might see your post. If you're just disagreeing with the things that I post because you don't like me then I would rather you keep your comments to yourself... w/e it just disappoints me that you're so supportive as soon as Ju-sun comes on back, and when he's not around it seems as if you're just a bitter jerk to me. It just makes you look fake to me. |

I actually don't find having all of the medals a problem. If someone doesen't want to bother seeing it, then we could just turn it off like sigs ans avatars. And really, who's going to win THAT much? I'm for this idea.

Now, because I know what the new profiles will entail, I think they have a place. It has nothing to do with who proposed what. And in any case, I'm sure he won't mind me saying it, but Jusun doesn't really have an active role in choosing/promoting/doing anything to staff, so there isn't really any benefit to be had by sucking up, or whatever. For the last time, stop assuming that everything I post has to do with you in some way. It doesn't. You're not that interesting. |

For the last time, stop assuming that everything I post has to do with you in some way. It doesn't. You're not that interesting. That's exactly the attitude I'm talking about... I was only being upfront and honest with you, and you reply telling me to "grow up" and that I'm "not interesting". Personally I think that it's pretty offensive, and you could have left both of those things out... I deffinitly don't assume "every" post you make has to do with me. You do seem pretty bitter towards me (even now). I guess that's why It's hard to believe that you're opinions aren't biased towards me when posting in a thread that I create. You are rarely possitive towards me. I challange you to find a post where you said something possitive towards or about me. Maybe I missed the post where you said something nice about me. Just about every single thing I do or idea I have, it seems as if you are apposed. Either that, or you never fail to leave something negative. I know I do the same to you, and I'm sorry. You have got to stop being a jerk and level with me if this is to end. This is all I'm trying to do. Maybe you feel like I need to grow up, but you have me all wrong. I'm willing to admitt to my faults and I'm willing to understand your piont of view, but you have to stop accusing me of things as if they are reality. Things like "grow up" or "you aren't interesting". I think those are insults, and when you put negative commments like those in your replies I look at you in much the same way that it seems you look at me, "an ignorant a-hole who doesn't know jack shit and complains a lot." With that perception I find you just as un-interesting as you find me. You become someone I don't even want to listen to. Level with me, and stop treating me like a little kid. I'm a lot more intellegent than you credit me for being. This isn't a competition. |

You think he's being defensive? You're the one that keeps asking for it. Come on. Just quit. Both of you. Me included.
Dear gosh. This is a great idea. The head honcho even likes it. K? So, now that we've boiled all that down to the salts, I think we're done. Cool? |

^If you read the entire thread, you would see that it's being implemented into the launching of cb4... :)
