How do you feel about lying? Is it ever good? Or just plain bad?

Discuss.

I think it depends. Honestly, there are some things that are not worth telling. Sometimes people, especially females, get carried away and blow things way out of proportions.

Sometimes, lies are necessary, imo. I don't think it's good or bad... it depends on the intentions of the lie.

I used to think white lies were okay because they never hurt another person and if it's for a good reason it's alright. But when I became a Christian I changed the way I thought. Lying is NEVER ok and always hurts another person, lying is also wrong in God's eyes and something I think needs to change in myself (I never lie very much but I still do sometimes) the reason lying is a sin is because it's disrespect to another person and in the Bible it says to respect your neighbor and love your enemy.

haha, Christians are sneaky with their words ;]
They'll be like "well, I mean, they look cute on you!" and completely ignore the question.

BTW, I don't hate Christians.

So, if you were harboring some innocent people in your house so they wouldn't be killed or hurt, and some one comes up to your door and asks if you have people in your house...would you tell them there are people in your house?

Do you think God would rather you lie and save a life, or tell the truth and cause some one to be killed?

I'd be honest but I would try not to be honest in a rude way. If that makes sense. Like if I they asked me if they looked fat, I wouldn't say they'd look fat but I would recommend a different pair of pants that I think they might look better in.

God would protect them and if things happend, it would be meant to be. In the Bible which is God's word it says that lying is a sin, so therefore I'd follow his commands and not lie or try my hardest not to. If the people were innocent, I would believe it and if some person came to my house wanting these people like government or something..then yes I wouldn't lie, I would tell them they are there, if I lied I could be in deep trouble for hiding people that could possibly be dangerous...lying is NEVER good in any circumstance...if I believed them to be innocent, I would support them along the way but I wouldn't lie.

I can't lie, about anything. I have too much guilt. Even if it's something simple, like if I ate or not. My face gives it away.

The Bible also talks about a story where Hagar, I think it is, let innocent people into her home from being murdered by the Romans(I think), and she told the soldiers that no one was in her house, and God blessed her for it.

Did ya read that one? So, God blessed her for lying. Interesting.

So, you're saying you would give people up to save yourself? Don't you think that's a bit selfish? Wait, isn't selfishness considered bad in the Bible? Hmm. I guess you got yourself a catch 22 here, buddy.

NO, I never said it was to save myself. I said I wouldn't lie because it's against God's wishes, it says to not lie in the Bible. I am not saying I would never lie because we are human and we sin and no one is perfect. And no I didn't hear that story, I am not a Bible fanatic and I am still learning.

Well, now that you know that story, how do you view lying in that sense? Yes, it's bad to lie, but to save some ones life. If God gave her a blessing for lying to save some one's life, then it can't be bad when you lie to save some one's life. True?

If it was to save someone's life and God was okay with it, I'd be okay with lying.

What if God said it was ok to kill people and get drunk and high every day? Would you be ok with that as well?

Thing is God would never say that because it says not to murder.

That really depends. If we were brought up to not kill and it was this evil thing then no I wouldn't, I wouldn't even be for that God. But since he's against murder, I wouldn't murder. If he turned around and said "kill this person"...I'd stop believing in him right away because I do not believe in murder. Now if murder was right and not wrong...then yes I would do it but it's not like that so therefore I wouldn't do it.

If God said that, yes. Look at the Muslim countries. They believe that if they kill an infidel, they will receive like 70 virgins in Heaven. So, they have no problem with it. Why should I?

Actually, there is a part in the Bible where it says that a guy (can't remember who it wass) but that God told him to sacrifice his son to God and he almost did until God saw how Faithful he was and stopped him from doing it.

Yeah, with the intentions of showing Abraham's faithfulness to God.

God, knowing everything, knew that Abraham would, in the end, not kill his son.

Well, I thought God did know he would kill his son because he had Faith in God. From what I heard he would of done it and was ready to do it but God stopped him because Abraham proved himself but idk, that's just what I was told.

You're right. Abraham was going to do it. Sorry, I must have worded my words wrong. Abraham was going to do it...but considering God is all knowing, He knew that Abraham's son wouldn't die because God interfered. Does that make more sense? wacko.gif

Yeah that makes more sense lol. But I think it was okay for him to sacrifice his son because he was sacrificing him to God where he'd be protected for eternity and spend eternity in Heaven with God.

So, that's justification for murder? The security of a place in Heaven? I believe that everything happens for a purpose. Issac was never killed, and therefore meant to happen like that.

Well, if it's in God's plan then yes.
