Well, probably all asian girls know how paranoid and protective your parents can be. I have a really big problem. Hm, I'm 15. My parents still treat me like I'm a little kid. They never allow me to go out, unless under some 'trusted adult supervision', they misunderstand my friends and think they influence me in bad ways..

Also, they really expect me to get extremely good grades at school. I really don't know what to do. Especially now, since I have a boyfriend. I have to like sneak out in order to see him, since he lives in a town very far from me, about 30 minutes drive.

Also, I can't take the pressure that they put on me. They expect me to excel in everything, school/sports/music. I'm a straight A+ sophmore. 4.3 GPA. I just really want some freedom in my life... But there is no way I can tell them. Everytime I try to, my mom would get all up in my face. She doesn't let me do anything. I really don't think there is anyone more strict than her. And I really can't express my feelings to my parents, THEY JUST DON'T GET IT.

They expect me to be some perfect innocent angel sitting at home doing homework and studying, then going on to become a FRICKEN DOCTOR. EVERY PARENT THINKS THAT. WHY IS THAT. I'm sure plenty of asians out there have this same problem. Sometimes, I really admire the American parents and how much freedom they allow their children..

I can take this to a point, until I will just explode and burst.. What is there to do?!! mad.gif ermm.gif

How do you get a 4.3? blink.gif

I'd say to break out in small ways. Show your independence and responsibility? Try cooking or cleaning for yourself or something. Or have some friends over alone when you know your parents are going to come home. When your parents get home, they will see that nothing bad happened, even if they weren't there.

[font=Arial]not all asian parents are that way. im chinese and my parents arent really strict at all, they trust my judgement.

but parents will be parents. you are their little girl and they're gonna wanna take care of you and watch over you for as long as they could. hey, how old are you?

well anyway, you just have to prove to them that you are independent and you're able to do things for yourself. you have to prove to them that you can keep your priorities straight while still having a social life.

my parents didn't know about my boyfriend but when they found out that i had one, they didn't really care because i never let him affect my grades.

good luck!

I totally agree
i'm Korean and i'm 14.
THEY DON'T LET ME GO TO FRIGGIN MALL UNLESS I'M WITH THEIR MOM.
i get so pissed it's not even funny
and yeah ur right.
they EXPECT me to get all A+.
once i got a B+(A.K.A. 89), they started freaking out.
They didn't let me go anywhere.
so yes, i do agree Asian parents could be a little TOO protective

My parents were like that too, until I started breaking rules and maintaining a good grade at the same time. They got used to it after a while. Good luck.

Yeha I'm Caucasian and my parents were like that. like my brother and I had to start taking the bus to get most of the way home cause she started working and then when my brother got a job, I couldn't take the bus anymore cause I'd be all alone by myself and I was a skinny female who'd get kidnapped or something like that untill I talked to my dad(daddy's girl) and he convinced my mom to let me do a trial walk. now I can either go walk home or go to my mom's job and file depending on how heavy my bag is... tongue.gif

You've got to learn to say no.
Even if your parents say no, say it right back to them.
I'm almost in the same situation as you, but I have a lot more freedom because I'm "rebellious."
And if they expect too much from you, make it so that they can't.
I don't know, or just talk to them even if they don't want to listen.

I wanted to hang out with a few friends at the mall, but this [Asian] girl couldn't go because an adult wasn't coming with us. I mean, Jeez, we have phones so whats the problem?

BTW, you're REALLY smart =o

That's what I thought. You wouldn't believe how many people wish their parents cared more about them. Just be lucky you don't have parents who don't care about you. You'll be thankful when you're 40 and realize where these several years of torture got you in life.

your parents are not the strictest in the world. idk whos are, but i know parents who are worse than yours. my boyfriend, of one year and two months *as of today hehe* has horrible parents. hes turning 17 in august, he doesnt go out, they dont let him on the phone for more than ten SECONDS, they dont let him see me, they talk ish about me and my family, theyre judgemental, and RUDE. theyre kicking him out of the house because he wants to be with me.. they blame all their problems on me.. and im his first girl friend. he gets good grades *as & bs and one c. hes in all AP classes.. and hes a junior. they dont cut him slack at all. they always tell him to do his hw. and when he says hes done.. the first thing that bitch of a mother says to him is STUDY FOR UR SATS! and crap like that.
