Stolen Material, V.1

I have noticed a lot of stolen material getting through the acception process. I don't know who is incharge of it now, but when Holly and Toya were doing it it was a lot stricter and more reviewed. Today I saw 2 or 3 [i can't remember] layouts go through that were either totally jocked or had stolen codes. I just wanted to bring this to the staff's attention to watch out for jocked material before the layouts are accepted becuase i know it's really hard for the designers when we can't remove them. For example Amanda [blaqheatedstar] had 2 things put on today that were jocked from her and one is still currently up there. Also if people need help with coding there are many people on here including myself who will help you so instead of stealing codes ask for help.

thats it

I think that everyone who's on in a design position are doing their best to make sure stolen things don't get through. I think I've been guilty of accepted something that had stolen codes in it, but you can't always memorize what every layout that on the site looks like. There are plenty of accepted layouts that have the same kind of setup, but that doesn't mean they are stolen. I think people are doing fine noticing things that are stolen, because there are plenty of layouts that get rejected because they have stolen codes.

Everyone is allowed to accept and reject layouts (as already pointed out). Well everyone on a design staff position. When you or anyone else sees them PM anyone on design staff (xanga, lj, myspace, design, etc) or hit the "Report to moderator" button, and make sure you tell us it was stolen and possibly a link to the coding or layout it was stolen from and we will remove them immediately.

So yea. :]

Unfortunately, I don't think that there is a way to ever completely fix the copyright issues. I think folks are trying to catch everyone, but particularly in the graphics queue, it's insane how many submissions are there. I think overall the copyrighted material is being caught more often than it used to.

It's unfortunate though, that people can be so dishonest. sad.gif

Toya has summed it up best. While Feedback on this is good, it's really important to PM/report stolen layouts immediately when you see them. That way a moderator can fix the problem right away and be on the look-out for those particular submitters.

It's not only the more obvious copyrighted pieces (say from DA) but it's also work like photographs of celebrities. We forget that those are owned by photographers as well. I know that this site wants to provide graphics people like... but, I personally have a small problem against it.

(I should be talking, I'm sporting an image that is copyrighted by someone else. rolleyes.gif )

From personal experience in doing a similar job, I would say that ... well :P ... experience is the best quality one could use in order to detect when someone's trying to pass stolen copyrighted work for their own.

Of course, everybody needs time to gather the little bits of knowledge that later on will be helpful when deciding what is a legit piece and what isn't. So on the long run, theorically speaking, less stolen works should sneak in as the people who control that part of CB develop a better "eye".

I completely agree... Toya and Holly have a lot of exp. accepting/rejecting things... eventually those noobies will catch up.

You'd be surprised how many people here at CB are jockers. Like just a few minutes ago, I found someone who jocked Roxy's background on her myspace. I won't say which member, but she's going around the forum helping members and I just messaged Roxy about so she's in for a rude awakening. And I have the background saved just in case. -+5 exp. points!- oh yeah.

^ Please do say which member (unless the background image has been removed, otherwise, we need to know).

^ Thanks, although if the background is on her original myspace, and its not on a layout submitted to createblog, then there isn't anything we can do.

Although the tutorials if you give us her tutorials and then the ones on deviant art we will do something about that happy.gif

Thanks.
