Okay. I'm really glad this topic came up cause this is one of the few things I know about...

Firstly, the Bible talks about certain things, for instance, dung. If you look at the old translations you will see that word is actually, in today's culture, a profane word.

A curse word, for instance 'ass', is wrong when we take it in the wrong context. If we call some one an ass, we are being demeaning and it's used in a derrogitory way. If I was to say that 'I have to wipe my ass. :)' I would not being using the word in the derrogatory sense.

If I was to say f**k in the wrong sense, then it would be wrong because it is derrogatory. If I was to say that 'I am going to f**k', then I would be using it correctly and therefore not wrong.

Who knows. Jesus could have used some of these words. It doesn't say He didn't.

But this is the logical way of thinking about it.

Did you know 'SHIT' actually stands for 'Ship Higher In Transit.' ??? Because some of the cargo on the ships were being mixed with manure accidentally. Ha. Learn something new everyday.

Well, I hope this helps. Haha. Ask Uronacid. I have the mouth of a sailor. Oh, it is also wrong when it offends some one. Haha. Nuckas.

Also, about taking God's name in vain....That's a hard subject for me. I will never say God damnit unless I'm using it in a sentence like this one. I feel like God is going to strike me down with His vengeance. Haha. But, I rarely take God's name in vain cause I respect it so much. And it kills me when people do. Jeremy.

So basically lets say I really hated someone and said to them: "You are a f*cking retard" that would be wrong in god's eyes therefore sinning but if I said the curse word just to say it such like this - "F*ck, I can't believe I forgot" then it's okay? Cause if that's what your saying I TOTALLY agree.

As for taking God's name in vain. I know it's wrong but of course I still do it but I have to admit everytime I do it I do feel that guilt in my heart and I try my hardest not to do it again =]

HAHA. Okay well that's what I thought you were saying but wanted to clarify =] I totally agree with it. I mean afterall it doesn't say in the Bible that we cannot cuss all it says is this under the commandments - "Love your neighbor" and "Do not take the Lord's name in vain".

hahaha. No, that's now what I'm saying. what I am saying is that if you say it within context then it's alright.

For instance... shit = fecal matter

Therefore if I was to say 'My fecal matter is brown.' I am allowed to say 'My shit is brown.'

HAHAHAH. Also, I was saying that if it doesn't offend anyone then it's alright. That's really the problem with swearing. That one I'm still working on cause it's basically saying that it's alright to swear around some people and not around others. But curse words are words none the less, but they've been used in a way that is demeaning and derrogatory to what the actual word means.

I see what you mean =] The only person in real life that I really cuss around is my boyfriend, he also cusses so it doesn't offend him. I do it online but not constantly. I don't know there just words to me and mean nothing except of course using God's name in vain...I did that last night...I automatically was like - "Gosh d*m" lol...

Well, I agree with you... ;]

Look, the Bible does say not to curse, but it doesn't say not to cuss.

Curseing = offensive
Cussing =Just a word

First of all, no offense but the speaker that your referring to is in the wrong. First of all, if he's a Christian why would he call people fools for cursing when God asks us to respect your neighbor...one of the 10 commandments and secondly...cursing doesn't make the Christian, the fact that you love God and have Faith in his works is what makes you a Christian. And it's not the rules either that make you a Christian or make you saved.

But you don't just believe God to be saved.

You can't simply believe that God exists to be saved... Many Satanists believe God exists. They also worship satan, but are they going to heaven? I highly doubt it.

I thought cursing and cussing were the same thing only put differently?

ermm.gif I'm sorry but your making no sense to me! What are you talking about and what does it have to do with what I said? I'm confused wacko.gif I already know that hun...what get's you saved is believing in God, believing that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and that Jesus is the son of God and accepting Jesus into your heart and life. That is what gets you saved. But cussing or living by God's laws is not what gets you saved. The laws and sins are there to show us how dirty we are so we look to the Lord to get saved...we ask for his help. I watched this on a video once by a show called - "The Way of The Master", the episode was titled - "Hell's Best Kept Secret" it's on Myspace under "Hells Best Kept Secret" if you want to look it up. It's pretty interesting. Plus, like I said it states that it's NOT the laws you abide by that get you saved or the fact you don't sin it's you accepting Jesus and admitting you need to be saved.

Why the f**k would a perfect god ever be concerned, in the least, with such a petty thing as language? Men invented language, men invent curse words. Inherently bad words don't exist. Such a concept is merely a superstition. Imagine a century ago, when saying "Thigh" would have been considered a swear. If a perfect god does exist, there is no way he could give two shits.

I agree... I don't think that the words are what matter. It's the context that you use them in. Are you trying to offend an individual with your words? If so, that's wrong. If not, I wouldn't worry to much.

Definitly. Like one of the 10 commandments says - "Respect your neighbor, love your enemy" or something like that.

^Yeah,but about your other post,
the laws are to be followed,not just to look at what horrible people we are.
Sure,we can realize that,but wouldn't God want us to change from that horrible person to a much better person?

You ARE not listening to what I'm saying hun...re-read it!!!!!!! I said it's not the laws that save us but our faith and acceptance in Jesus. Yes, the laws do help you to become a better person but they are not what save you.

The only one of the Bible's "rules" that prohibits speech is "Don't take the name of the Lord in vain."

I'm a Christian, and I curse all the time. Like a sailor, actually. In fact, Saint Paul wrote a letter which was documented in one of the books of the New Testament where he used a word that would translate to today's meaning of "shit." I'm sure that God would prefer that we not swear, but it's not mentioned as a sin.
