I didn't know how to use the chopsticks until I was 9 .. but my parents and my uncle says .. whoever's asian and they don't know how to use the chopsticks (toddlers/kids under 8 are excused) they're stupid. Do you agree with them? I'm mostly referring to East Asians who use chopsticks very commonly, almost everyday.

my dad is always saying that to me.
im chinese and ive always used my chopsticks incorrectly. i dont put my middle finger in between the chopsticks so it looks like im holding a pencil. literally. i don't feel stupid when im with my friends because we're fooling around most of the time. but, when im actually in china..at a dinner party..then i feel stupid because i think everyone is staring at me or something. even if they're not. and it's not like i can correct my usage or anything..since i have used chopsticks that way ever since i started learning. |

Even if you're Asian it doesn't mean you MUST use chopsticks during meals all the time... some people don't like using chopsticks and it's their preference. |

Well... I can use chopsticks but I don't hold them the correct way, and none of the people who are around me care at all.

no offense but yea. if you grow up in an asian family and enviroment and dont know how to use chopsticks, thats kind of disgraceful. you dont have to prefer chopsticks, but at least know how to use them.
its not a stereotype like all these americans think. its basically a way of life. thats like saying, if you grew up in the ghetto and you dont know what pot is... youre stupid. its true. you truly are. or being korean and not knowing the difference between north and south korea, and which part youre from. or being chinese and not knowing who jay chou is :P |
