^ Oh I don't have any solid statistics. That's my own personal interpretation. Kind of like you saying they do have a solid grip. That's your personal interpretation. I read around the internet and various forums and see that Sony has been suffering. Sony has been trying to regain that grip since Microsoft came to town. Same with Nintendo. Hands down, the Xbox came out on top last generation. I'll see if I can find some numbers for you though!

And also, if you are planning on getting a PS3, you'll need not just any HDTV, but a BRTV to even get the full effect. Otherwise, the PS3 has no more to offer than the 360. And here's the catch. Only Sony publishes a BRTV. That's an extra $1000+ added to the price tag of a standard HDTV and it all goes right into their pockets. That's kind of like stabbing gamers in the back if you ask me. They're trying to force all buyers to use Sony products. It's all just a money grabbing scheme for Sony and that's one of the reasons I don't like the company. It's like that with everything they sell, not just video games.

The PlayStation 2 pwned the other consoles. The PS2 sold over 105 million units, whereas the Xbox and the GameCube sold only 24 and 21 million, respectively (see here). Sony's original PlayStation entry was solid (although Nintendo gave it a run for its money with the N64), and has been solid since.

That's not to say the success will continue, and that's not to say market share is all that matters. Nintendo is a lot like Apple: smaller market share, but they turn a hefty profit on each machine, so they remain successful. I expect that will happen here.

Sony has had a few black eyes lately (that rootkit scandal and the recent laptop battery recall come to mind, as well as a few mistakes with the PS3), but that's mostly unrelated to its dealings in regards to the PS and PS2.

^ Oh, we're talking in terms of how many units sold? I was talking about over all quality and customer satisfaction. Then again, I guess going by units sold makes more sense when discussing Sony. After all, that is all they're worried about.

My boyfriend has a 360 and recently purchased an HDTV. Believe me, you are not getting the full effect of a 360 (or anyting else for that matter) unless you have one. Then again, HDTV is just cool like that. B-)

I feel like Sony kind of saw that they were king of the mountain, and suddenly decided to act like they were just that, king. They want to reshape gaming into their own mold, and package with it an entertainment hub for which to connect your entire home's electronics to.

What they don't realize is that King of the Mountain is a game at which you don't just win, you have to fend your position from hungry competitors. Here comes the 360, with it's superior online capabilities and pretty good slew of second generation games. And Nintendo bringing up the rear with pure innovation in console gaming.

Nintendo has the most experience in these console wars, and knows a thing or two about taking market share from the rest of the competition. The Gameboy, and DS, have both dominated handhelds for a good long time. Not Nokia, Sony, Sega, or any other shmuck who came along could stop them.

But beyond history, is the gameplay.

I love my Wii. I've been nonstop playing Wii Sports and I love it. I play gold and bowling with my whole family. We only have the one controller because theyre sold out everywhere, and I dont really feel like shelling out forty bucks for another remote and a whole nother twenty for a nunchuk. Ive had more fun playing this thing than alot of games Ive played in the past on many many systems. And this is just launch, with the game that came with the gorram thing. I havent even started Zelda.

I think I might OD on Wii.

I'm going for all 3, reason is because even though the Playstation 3 has a terrible release, next year's gaming lineup is incredible. However as of now, the only game for the PS3 that's doing really well is Resistance. 360 has Gears of War, and the Wii is acing with their Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. X-Box 360 will do really well once Halo 3 comes out, and once Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out for the Playstation 3, they get the big one. However Square-Enix might not develop games for Sony anymore when they stated that they wanted the system to fail, which could hurt PS3 greatly. Most of the Wii's release games have terribly low ratings except Twilight Princess, although that may change once Brawl comes out.

Man this is a confusing thing...

^ Yeah, PS3 will pick up. I don't think they'll get much better though. I just have a feeling people are finally getting tired of Sony in general. PS3 proves that. And I've seen pretty good reviews for Wii games! All the big game reviewers like IGN love the controls and unique styles. Not to worry though. They have an excellent line up.

Pretty much we just have to wait for all 3 systems to released their Ace games.

Yeah, probably. I know Wii is riding on Zelda right now and they'll probably get another big hit when Super Smash Bro. Brawl comes out. That's probably their plan. Halo 3 will be huge for Xbox 360. I'll definitely make sure I have a 360 by then.
