QUOTE(I Shot JFK @ Aug 9 2006, 2:00 PM) *
Liberal =/= Democrat.

Hell, I ain't even a yankee, so you cant tar me with that brush.

And furthermore, even if you wished to do so, i would observe that a Republican party who are seemingly sucking the dicks of the extreme religious right with no rhyme or reason, lead by a president who has completely drifted off into lala land because he knows he will be forever unpopular and doesnt have to worry about being releceted is hardly in much better shape.

= )

there are many reasons as too why people seem bush doesnt have great policies ....the media also effects that . greatly.

Mark, if you're liberal with conservative moral values, you can still join. You don't have to always side with us on every issue. Why don't you decide which club is more suitable for you and get back with us? _smile.gif

Nate, never ever ever too late. Glad to have you.

Ew, James, you're right; it is really irritating to have the current events forum in debate's spot.

Yeah, I still think that quadrants would be more appropriate, especially if everyone's using that "political compass" quiz to determine his/her stance.

I wouldn't mind that, but considering the number of active posters in the debate forum I assumed that it'd be easiest to start out with what we currently have. I realize there's much more to it than just a horizontal line, but I don't and never did expect to fully align with everyone in this club. We're all going to have different opinions on many issues, but those who have chosen to join feel that they relate more closely with liberals and left-minded individuals. I don't want to nitpick, I'd just rather have a couple of large, diverse groups than several small groups that are perfectly precise. _smile.gif

My school banned Wikipedia, and I spent a large amount of government class arguing over how ridiculous it is.

That is really stupid.. And I've heard of students getting in trouble for plagiarism or not using a valid source if they cited Wikipedia.

Did they mention why it was banned, or did it just happen (which is most often the case)?

When you go to the address, it says it's blocked because of "general pornography."

Yeah, what the hell?

Jenn tried to argue with me that they banned it because the information is false, but a) most of it isn't wrong, b) do I not have the right to decide for myself whether something is true or not? am I not just doing so at my own risk?, and c) if they're really going to ban every website that contains some false information, there's going to be very few that are still allowed.

the information being user provided doesnt equate to it being false... i could make a massiver entry on, say, buffy, and it would all be true...

Does anyone else have the ad at the bottom of the page selling "Kerry Sucks" and "Bin Laden" Sucks" t-shirts from conservativeposts.us? Because it's really distressing.

I'm aware. And had Jenn not been sitting all the way on the other side of the room, I likely would have made that point, but the teacher intervenes. I've spent most of her class thus far talking to Paige and arguing any point made that I don't happen to agree with (we went over our tests today, so it happened a lot), and I can't tell whether she likes me for participating or is just annoyed by me. I think I've finally completely overcome that whole shyness from talking in class thing, and you may have had a point about people wanting me to go back into my shell, because I have a feeling that I'm really acting quite a bit like you.
Wait- "massiver"?

oh. and about left wing issues. yes. on topic. yes.

We're not allowed to use Wikipedia on our reports at my school either. It's "not a valid source" because anyone can contribute to it...but they do have moderators who make sure the information posted is correct and if not, they post a little warning at the top.

They're not really moderators per se, because anyone can watch an article, and anyone can post warnings at the tops of articles with invalid information.

Whatever, I meant that if someone posts something blatantly wrong, those who are dedicated members of the site will make sure it isn't there.

I can understand not being able to use is as a source, but that still doesn't justify blocking it. For our summer reading, my language arts teacher recognized that most of us used Wikipedia as a convenient reference on the books and time period, but he said he was fine with it, so long as we didn't try to use it on real papers where we actually have to cite our sources.
