Height seems important for boys. You can read the statistics, and you will find that taller men do better in the corporate world. Boys are often obsessed about thier height. This is, however, self perpetuating.

The key to the sucess of taller men is the extra confidence it gives them. The reason it gives them confidence is the sucess of taller men. This makes sense. Do not question it.

Added later:

So, your job is to tell me why I am wrong. My reasoning is not backed up by any research, but logic and intuition. Sharing your own experiences could constitute a good contribution. Please discuss. If you agree with me, please say why. In general, discuss the topic. Is height really that important, or is it mainly the confidence it brings?

It is true that good nutrition not always make you tall. It's because of the genes.
worthy.gif i'm confuse. i dont know what i'm saying.

Height is not strictly based on genes, but they do play a major part in it. Sure, good nutrition, stretching and whatnot is recommended and helpful, but it won't gain you an extra six inches. The information encoded in your genes is pretty much what you're going to get. You can help it reach its potential or you can hinder it; there's still room for variation, but either way, the range won't differ much more than a quarter or half inch at best. And even though you come from a family of tall people, it does not necessarily mean you're going to be tall. Tall parents can have short kids and it won't be the kid's fault. On the same note, short parents can have tall kids.

And to reply to the topic, the benefits of height is a mixed bag. I believe its both about the obvious physical and the confidence it brings. The first impression is the longest lasting one and the first impression is appearance. The tall guy in a suit a suit looks better than a short guy in a suit, so the boss is automatically initially attracted to Mr. Tall. And then yeah, Mr. Tall plays it up and Mr. Short, though with the same credentials, is looked at as second. So basically there was no discussion here; I pretty much agree with guy fawkes as much as I hate to admit it hehe.gif

I understand that the offspring may be a little short or taller, but I doubt that 5 foot tall parents can produce a son/daughter to be above 6 feet considering both the dominant and recessive gene are both short.

^True. Point taken. There can be weirdo mutations where offspring is considerably taller than both parents, but for the most part you're right.

Hmm..would you say that height affects women in the business world?

I think it has the same effect. Although its not always true, being taller has probably boosted her confidence along the years and it'll show come interview time.

Of course this assumption is largely based on appearance. Whether you're male or female, if you are untidy looking, unattractively overweight, or just plain ugly, then none of this applies to you. pinch.gif

I believe the dominant factor in a woman's confidence in the corporate wolrd is the fact that she is a woman. The corporate world is protrayed as male dominated, so this is most likely the major thing affecting confidence for women in the corporate world.

That's like saying the dominant factor of a man is to be manly. A definite major factor for women is appearance....which also brings us to this topic. It's most likely a woman who is skinnier/more beautiful than another is likely to sell more. It's their (our) confident booster and what they (we) brag about most anyway

Boobs also use to be a factor, but not so much now.

Height can be based on the height of your
parents, however, it can also be a recessive
gene. So if your grandparents are short but your
parents are tall your could still end up being short.

However, height does not depend entirely on genes.
...This is just an example... but people from asia
are typically short. But when they come to America,
their children are taller than them. This is because the
diet of peopel in Asia is different from people in
America.

Oh, and tall is best...6'2+...

Hey, well what I can I say? I'm
almost 6'0

I was confident and cocky when I was 5 foot flat and I'm confident and cocky now being 6"1.

The inverse can also be noted.

Guys who get really tall, really fast, during puberty are sometimes apt to be clumsy.
