the thing that frustrates me is that this thread will probably be the reason why kathleen wont be modded. which is a damn shame, and involves a LOT of missing the point.

I know...it is a shame. This would probably be the reason why anna won't be modded(that is if she applies). It would be pathetic if they use this against people who want to be modded

especially as it is actually a prime reason why they SHOULD be modded.

I'm assuming that Arjuna Capulong is between "same" and "better".

But still, he's doing a good job as a moderator.

I think it's better. i dont know. i'm seeing things.

what makes you say that? Based on what he's doing now, I don't think Archie will mess up anytime soon.

^ Agreed. I've been satisfied with his performance so far.

Uh, this topic here.
I don't see why this was closed. Nobody mentioned anything about piracy and Limewire and torrents aren't always used for piracy. That's why they aren't against the law. When people give out purchased MP3's or other material and allow others to download them on a P2P network, that's when it is illegal.

Wasn't he just around to help with the launch of CB3?

Well, on the very first post it says "what is the best P2P Client?" I don't exactly know if that's the same as a P2P network, but one might assume it would have to do with piracy.

And thanks by the way.

Edit: Nevermind it was reopened.

Xanga is dying

While this is completely beside the point now, I consider that very sad. I HATE HATE HATE myspace. Xanga is 500x better. USAToday had an article about myspace's popularity dwindling (eh?) and listed xanga as one of the new sites rising to its popularity. I was inclined to be vaguely offended.

QUOTE(sp3nca @ Jul 28 2006, 11:18 PM) *
because people made topics. that's not the point though. threads popping up has nothing to do with the actions a mod takes. there's no rules stating clubs aren't allowed, they just died off when nicki closed them all and have since resurfaced. asking where they came from has nothing to do with a mod...the mods aren't the ones making them.

Actually I'm pretty sure they weren't allowed. And for the record, I was right.

QUOTE(marzipan @ Jul 31 2006, 6:39 PM) *
HOW would i know how to moderate if i've never done it before? I'm learning. i'm trying hard to get it and learn the rules. i'm sorry if you think i'm a sucky moderator because of one mistake. I can't get everything right the first time. That's the whole thing about it. You learn. Knowing that I made a mistake can help me do better in the future. I was just modded a few days ago. I can't get every thing right the first time. mellow.gif

For what it's worth, there are really nice people who just can't mod. They try hard, and while I'd like to give them credit for this, modding is a remarkably instinctive thing. It typically seems that if one doesn't get it at first, they won't.

On that note, did we not learn from the modding of Dani #1 that hiring completely passive people for the sake of avoiding controversy will only make things worse in the long run?

I do think that hiring people with strong personalities is good right now. And people who have actually been around for a while. That might lead to some tension, but if things were to actually get done, that'd be an improvement.

Because I have been gone for the past two weeks (which as far as the internet is concerned seems like a very long time), I have less imput than I'd like. Thus, my only real concerned for the time being is that it makes very little sense to hire two mods out of nowhere and then hold a modding session. That doesn't seem entirely fair..mm? This isn't against the people in question so much as that it seems completely contradictory to the point that Mona (I think) was trying to make about the fairness and equality of the modding process.

Nicki, the reason why we had a hiring session right after is because we planned on hiring the two mods earlier but couldn't completely agree on it. It was decided that we shouldn't wait any longer as it was wasting time. The modding session was to take place in a few weeks (possibly after school started) but after so many people stepped down due to inactivity, it was better to get on with it instead of waiting for school to start.

there's a difference between passive and knowing how to avoid conflicts. and i think conflict avoidance is an important part of being a mod.

If you guys are really that strapped for people, why not get a few ex-staffers to come back as temps to tide you over till hiring is done? I'm sure most of them would be willing to help out a bit, particularily the ones that are still in summer vacation.

better than rushing through a modding and ending up with not so good mods.
