There are many theories on how the world will end for us, on how the Earth and us with it will be destroyed.

First Theory:
As you all know of the Big Bang, which is believed to be the start of the universe. Some say that the universe may go back to that little sized pearl and we will be destroyed.

Second Theory:
If you did not learn this in school, the sun is a star. And all stars have life and death. Their death is when they explode becoming a nova/supernova. Which means the sun will have one as well. They say eventually, the sun will end life and explode, destroying the Earth.

These are the two main theories that I know about. What do you think? Do you think the universe will go back into the pearl sized amount of gas? Or will the sun blow us up?

You decide. If you know of another theory, feel free to mention it.

My Opinion:
The first theory in my opinion is highly unlikely. I don't believe the whole universe will shrink back. If anything, the universe will keep expanding forever. I do believe in the second theory, but that will probably not last for another couple million or even billion years. If not that, we'll be destroyed by a meteor or colide with another planet, both seem to be unlikely. So if we don't get destoyed by another planet (by collision) or by a meteor, the sun will blow up on us.

I don't believe any of those theories for several reasons of my own.
Can't really explain right now. It's hard to explain.
ermm.gif I'll come back later when I get the right words to say type.

^ do you not believe those reasons as a result of your religious faith? That's only my assumption; don't take offense to it.

But from a scientific perspective, I agree with the topic starter. Pending the earth isn't wiped by an incoming object, it should last until the sun's life expires: millions of years away, I take it.

Of those two, I agree with the second. But when you say earth do you mean the physical planet, or life on earth? I think all humans will eventually destroy themselves but when it comes to the actual mass who's to say how it will end?

^ I agree, Eventually all life on earth will eventually just die, probably becuz of a huge ass war and using nuclear weapons and blow up everything on earth. I really just meant Earth the planet itself. Oh yeah I remembered, the name of the 1st Theory was called the Big Clap theory, or something like that. Where the universe just shrinks back.

Well the second theory is much more likely to happen eventually. Just not in a long long time.
The first one is iffy. Depends if you believe in the big bang in the first place.

And of course there's those ways that the Earth ends in religions.

I agree with the Global Warming thing, it is becoming a pretty big problem. But..we won't fry. The crazy weather will eventually lead to ice age as I was told? Correct me if I am wrong.

Science lesson.

The sun isn't going to explode. You would need a sun with much larger demensions for an event like that too happen. Rather, our sun will do what most other stars it's size do when the fusion processes in its nucleus run out of fuel. This bitch is gonna expand like a motherf**ker! It's gonna grow because it needs to engulf things to fuel itself with. But it'll soon crap out. Most scientists speculate that it will engulf mercury and venus but stop before it hits Earth. It will be close enough to boil all the oceans on Earth, though. So we are supremely f**ked. Even if bacteria survived this stage, the sun will then begin to collapse in on itself because it cannot sustain its enlarged state. So bam, no sun= no light. No light = not a lot of anything.

If global warming disappeared we'd freeze. Global warming is essentially the increasing amount of CO2 in our atmosphere. CO2 is an insulator that keeps heat in the planet. Take away the Co2 and we'd be cold as hell.

I disagree. Even if nuclear war broke out and the entire human population died out, [Which is ALSO unlikely. I find it hard to believe that the whole human race would die out] small animals would still likely carve out a living. And if not them, then bacteria and aquatic animals certainly would.

If I were to pick a theory as to how ALL life on earth dies out...I'd go with the sun dying out though.

if i am not listening to that song during the apocalypse i will be royally pissed off, you know.

I tend to think that human life will end due to some sort of asteroid collision which is too cataclysmic to survive. of course, nuclear war could hugely alter society as we know it before then, wich would be a laugh.

I have a few possibilities:
EARTH-BORN CAUSES
Nuclear Fallout
Probably the one that humans would be the most direct and immediate cause to the Apocalpyse. Very simply, someone, somewhere, will be idiotic enough to launch an aggresive nuclear attack against a powerful country. Simple retaliation, and the Nuclear fallout will quite possibly poison and destroy all life on Earth as we know it. Except the cockroaches.

Global Warming
A major climate shift has recently been observed, where the overall temperature of the world will rise significantly, and the sea levels will rise a dozen or more feet within a decade. Already, there has been evidence of this kind of a change happening where ice caps and glaciers all over the world have been melting. The amount of greenhouse gases that traps the sun's heat in our atmosphere is causing the overall temperature of the world to rise significantly, and at a dangerous pace.

Viral Plague
We know that as man continues to progress in the attempt to wipe out disease completely, that we rule out as much disease as we can -- except simply, the ones that are too strong to kill. Scientists have hypothesized that the causes of the last five to six extinctions were due to an unstoppable virus that kills off almost all life on the Earth. However, once it wins, there are no longer any hosts for the virus to infect, and the disease becomes dormant again. If Ebola had an evolved state of form, or some other disease, it's a large possibility. AIDS anyone?
DERIVITAVE: Flesh-Eating Zombies
Resident Evil, guys. T-Virus.

COSMIC EXTINCTION
Chances are that humanity will die off before anything on the cosmic scale will occur. But if we do...
The Sun
Precisely. The sun would get far too hot for anything on Earth to survive before it got to its premature stages of implosion/explosion. But if we do survive, humanity may be forced to move somewhere else.

Meteor
Dinosaurs all over again. A large meteor could definetely cause extinction of many species, and if not extinction, a large enough chunk to completely undermine the fabric of human civilization.

Andromeda
The closest neighboring galaxy we have is Andromeda. And it is heading millions of miles an hour straight toward the Milky Way. If you are familiar, Scientists believe that at the center of every galaxy is a Black Hole; the "sun" of the galaxy that holds it together. The thing that is so special about Black Holes is that they can merge. If these two super black-holes were to merge, it might very well implode on itself. If not, the Galaxies are crashing into each other anyways.
DERIVITAVE: Big Crunch
Like the Big Bang, when everything exploded, the Big Crunch is the exact opposite. A larger scale of the above theory is that all black holes will eventually merge, and develop into the origin of the next universe that will explode. Then it will implode again. Then explode. etc. etc.

I don't think it matters, that's pretty much common knowledge, plus it's not really essential to this nonexistent debate.

Which brings me to my next point, IS this a debate? Eh. Not important, but there's nothing really we can argue here.. We can't predict the future, so it's all just discussion, not actual argument.

But for the sake of the thread.. The sun burns out, global warming, something smashing into the earth, the earth somehow being knocked out of orbit and spiraling into the sun.. There's a number of possibilities. Go me for not making any sense and wanting to keep this short.

Being a Christian, I do believe in the End Times and the Rapture. If the Big Man doesn't hurry up, we'll probably just end us destroying ourselves, lol. Honestly, the way things are going. Not only do we threaten ourselves through war, but also the effects of our treatment of the environment. In one way or another, it'll be our fault.

Ok I do not believe that the world will end with a "Big Bang" and I do not believe that the sun will blow us up...in the bible when it talks about the end times it does not mention the world exploding or ending juz like that it clearly says that Jesus will return so I don;t think that the world will end in a big bang!

The second theory sounds more plausible but personally I think we'll end up ruining the earth ourselves.
