Not talking to a dirty, ragged person who stinks isn't an act of being shallow. It's what 99.9 % of the world population would do. Not talking to a fat person because of his/her size is shallow and that is what I consider 'Ignorance'. I don't think you should judge someone by their physical appearance.

Truth is, A lot of the world is in a dirty, ragged, stinky state. Back where I used to live, I would come across a lot of dirty, ragged, stinky people, yet I wouldn't hesitate to give them a helping hand and say hello. You're such a f**king bitch. I hope your children face a poverty-stricken future living in the slums, all dirty and smelly. Sorry. I kinda just blew. |

Hezron calm dowm. You know that someone who's never lived in places like the Philippines would never know.... D:
But you know Sandra, just because 99.9% of the population does it, doesn't mean it isn't ignorant neither is it not wrong. |

Close-mindedness doesn't equate to ignorance, though. It simply signifies that a person has a shorter threshhold of interest. Would you consider a person ignorant if they were close-minded, yet correct and successful about/in most facets of life? In this case, close-minded is a choice. You choose not to be willing to know more beyond the person's looks. if something looks really ugly and ... crappy, they will just pass by it. |

Does that, therefore, mean shallow = selective and not ignorant?

He might be a beautiful person but the fact that he's dirty, he's got ugly teeth and he's scary is a turnoff. That isn't ignorance. |

Hahahaha! I may be shallow, but I don't have the audacity to f**k a mother unless she was the mother of my own children. And I have to apologize for earlier. My reply was uncalled for. Let me rephrase it in a more civil manner.
I'd like to point out that a large majority of the world population isn't exactly within the propriety of the higher industrialist nations. I mean, if you go anywhere with a less fortunate economy, you're bound to meet communities full of ragged, dirty people. To say that 99.9% of the world population ignores those people is a big understatement. |

A shallow individual may or may not be ignorant. An ignorant individual may or may not be shallow. However, neither have a direct cause and effect relation. They may have a correlation, but that would just be coincidence. By definition, no. Shallowness isn't ignorance, and vice versa. In fact, I would imagine that a shallow person would be made even that more shallow by the reality of knowledge. If a person was physically ugly, yet their mind and personality were beautiful, and a person had perfect knowledge of this yet still rejected this person (even as a friend) merely on the basis of physical appearance, they would be the most purist form of shallow.
I'll have to stick with Hez on this: It's irrelevant. |

Anyhoo, of course I exaggerated when I said 99.9 % but people who feel like that are in the majority. Maybe I'm thinking like this because I was brought up this way. The picture that's on the top of this page prouves my point. If I should see that man IRL, I won't talk to him even if he was harmless, I'll freak out. I don't think that it should be defined as being shallow. People who were brought up in poor environnements are used to seeing people being dirty. That's a different issue, they are used to it. I'm not used to seeing people badly dressed and dirty, it's going to be scary if I should see someone like that. |

Probably laugh and shake his hand. The guy is a superstar. He was really big on Howard Stern for quite some time. He's really awful, but he is infamous. I would talk to him, but for completly and utterly shallow reasons still. Interesting, huh? |

^ Lol! Even if he's famous, hell no. I can't. I think I'll actually cry, I mean, he's scary. Are you going to call me shallow for that? Shallow Main Entry: 1shal·low Pronunciation: 'sha-(")lO Function: adjective Etymology: Middle English schalowe; probably akin to Old English sceald shallow -- more at SKELETON 3 a : penetrating only the easily or quickly perceived <shallow generalizations> Sure. That's a shallow reaction. But, here is the good news. You aren't generalizing his personality on his looks. You aren't saying he isn't a good person, or that he is a bad person. You're simply reacting to his unsightly appearance. Since you are simply penetrating that thin layer, you are commiting a shallow reaction, however, it isn't as morally objectionable as it could be. |

I'm with Nate on this one. I'd talk to the man for a bit and shake his hand. It would be quite the fun thing to do. Sorry about the font. I didn't know it was that small.
