QUOTE
Michael Russell, 12, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, collapsed after riding the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ride at Disney-MGM theme park in Orlando, Florida, Thursday morning, Sgt. Carlos Torres said. (Watch the details of what happened after the roller coaster stopped -- 2:39)

Russell's father began administering CPR and was later aided by a Disney assistant, but the boy was not responsive. Russell was then transported by ambulance to Celebration Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster re-opened Friday morning.

"Walt Disney World engineers and ride system engineers completed a thorough inspection of the attraction overnight and found it to be operating properly," said Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty in a statement.

Another park spokesman, Jacob DiPietre, said, "Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Russell family in the wake of their son's passing."

Disney boasts of the ride on its Web site: "Zoom from zero to 60 mph with the force of a supersonic F-14, take in high-speed loops and turns synchronized to a specially recorded Aerosmith soundtrack and zip through Tinseltown in the biggest, loudest limo you've ever seen."

It adds: "The 3,400-foot-long track is more than a half mile of sudden accelerations, dips, loops and twists and turns."

More details...

My dad brought this up today, and I had no clue about it until then.
Poor kid.. sad.gif

I've also read stories about a forty-nine-year-old woman and a four-year-old dying as well in Disney World all within a year, I believe. sad.gif

Didn't a kid die on space mountain? That thing is pretty intense. Too many G's for little kids.

Was he in good health when he got on the ride? sad.gif

Man...this is why I don't like roller coasters. ermm.gif

I'm not sure, the article doesn't really say.
It just says that "congenital heart abnormalities" were found and will be further investigated.
They say it could take up to three months to determine if it was the rollercoaster itself or personal health problems which caused the boy's death.

That is beyond sad. I love Disney. It is honestly my favorite place & hearing about incidents such as this makes me feel horrible.

I heard about that too.... turns out he had heart problems and didnt know it. Poor kid, Disney has to be one of the worst places to die.

The ride he was on, the Rockin rollercoaster, Is a pretty wild coaster. I LOVE rollercoasters, but after riding it once about two years ago I hated it. It jerks you around too much. mellow.gif

Dang. That's not good for anyone.

They should try tighter age limits.

Daamn. I was just riding the ride a few months ago with my choir. It's hella scary thinking about it.

While we were at Disney World in April, one of the roller coaster mulfunctioned or something like that and our whole choir was freaked out by the fact the one of us could have been on the ride.

Poor kid. That's so sad. You go to the happiest place on earth and you die. Ironic.

Hey, things happen like that anywhere whether it's the happiest place on earth or your house. (Which could be both.) There's bound to be danger anywhere...

It's still sad to what happened though.

His heart problem went undetected. It couldn't have been helped. Also, as Kim said, it could've happened anywhere.

Well you can't blamethe roller coaster or disney, the boy had heart problems. you arent supposed to get on a roller coaster ride if you have a weak heart. my boyfriend has a slightly weak heart and his octor doesnt want him getting on rides. Even if they didnt know that, you cant blame disney for that cuz it not like they would know it. Its very sad though, but think about it. Where would you wana die? In a hospital with ivs all stickin in your arms, or on a roller coaster at disney world. I lovet hat ride. Its one of my favorites. And I say bull to the people saying they shouldnt let little kids on. I've beenr iding roller coasters since I was 6 years old because I was abnormally tall for my age. And I mean serious roller coasters, not kiddie rides, and I'm just fine. *twitch*
