laugh.gif No worries. (Not that I assumed you had any) I love differences in opinions and what not, I just didn't quite understand where you were coming from - other than you weren't much of a Brokeback Mountain fan. wink.gif

Yeah - I have never understood why more people don't indulge themselves in some Lynch cinema. His films are so diverse and enticing. Oh well, eh?

I don't think Corpse Bride was bad, by the way - I just think that a lot of people associate Burton (and Elfman for that matter) with The Nightmare Before Christmas. Granted, that is one of my favorite films. laugh.gif However, James and the Giant Peach came before that - and for some reason JatGP makes me weep with joy. (Yes, I'm totally serious) That's just the animation stuff. I could go on for an entire thread about Tim Burton and Danny Elfman. Damn - I need to bust out my Oingo Boingo CDs tomorrow. happy.gif

Oh dear lord the tragedy that was The Hulk. Makes the comic book geek girl in me wail, it does. *sighs* Oh well. At least I can look forward to Superman Returns. Um... they cast Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Nevermind. I shall continue to wail.

Brokeback Mountain should definitely win Achievement in Cinematography. All the shots were amazing.

Eh. I think The New World, for all its lack of content and coherence (Good Lord that was an awful film) had amazingly beautiful shots.

Yeah, seriously.

Also, I enjoyed James and the Giant Peach. However, I havn't seen it in ages. I use to like Burton alot more, but after a while I started to suspect that he might just be a hack. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory disapointed me beyond any responsible degree. I was pissed.

At this point, I still enjoy a great deal of his films, but need to revisit a few.

I saw Walk the Line recently and I am so definitely changing my wish Oscar ballot for Joaquin Pheonix. The man was amazing. Seriously, I always have a criticism - for EVERYTHING and I have nothing bad to say about his performance. Totally moving.

Umm.. something about two gay cowboys? i think that was the concept that drew movie goers to the movie lol.. if movie was about a heterosexual couple then it would be above average/very good at best.

You are actually correct about the two gay cowboys thing. I'm not saying that's a gimmick, I'm saying that that was the phrase that got people into the movies. But about the whole brokeback thing being overrated, you can't help it. It was a terrific movie, and they DESERVE the praise all around. It bugs the hell out of me when people only love the frikken movie due to the "hottie actors". It's quite annoying. After they watch the movie, it is still all about the "gay cowboy" movie. It actually has a real meaning to it.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Philip Seymour Hoffman - CAPOTE
Terrence Howard - HUSTLE & FLOW
Heath Ledger - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
Joaquin Phoenix - WALK THE LINE
David Strathairn - GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.

Why: The buzz is all about Philip Seymour Hoffman. He has been taking home the gold, and I'm pretty sure he's going to take it all. Heath Ledger did a WONDERFUL job, but Philip portrayed Capote to the pin point. Although, I'm hoping Heath wins.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
George Clooney - SYRIANA
Matt Dillon - CRASH
Paul Giamatti - CINDERELLA MAN
Jake Gyllenhaal - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
William Hurt - A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

Why: Jake does have a chance. He did win the BAFTA. Although, Paul Giamatti might take the Oscar home. I just bolded Jake cause I want him to win. George Clooney also did a wonderful job, and he is neck to neck with Paul. Actually, Jake, Paul, and George are all neck to neck.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Judi Dench - MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS
Felicity Huffman - TRANSAMERICA
Keira Knightley - PRIDE & PREJUDICE
Charlize Theron - NORTH COUNTRY
Reese Witherspoon - WALK THE LINE

Why: Felicity deserves the oscar! She did a wonderful job being Bree in Transamerica. It was a great movie, with great actors. It's hard pretending to be a man becoming a woman. She showed the alienation that the transexuals go through pretty well. She is up against Reese Witherspoon, neck to neck. Reese did do an amazing job, but people are just snubbing Felicity! Walk the line was Wide, and Transamerica was Indie. Not much people know about Transamerica. Btw, putting Keira Knightley in this catagory is complete BULLSHIT.

PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Amy Adams - JUNEBUG
Catherine Keener - CAPOTE
Frances McDormand - NORTH COUNTRY
Rachel Weisz - THE CONSTANT GARDENER
Michelle Williams - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

Why: She's taken almost everything home, and she has a 60% chance of taking this one.

I agree with you on both of these. However, if Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Heath Ledger split enough votes, Joaquin Pheonix could come out on top. Unlikely but it might happen. My roomate wants there to be a tie between Hoffman and Ledger. It rarely happens but it might. Both of them are extremely deserving.

I also think in my heart of hearts that Rachel Weisz will get the Oscar but I want Michelle Williams to win soooooooooo bad. Granted I've never seen The Constant Gardener, but Williams was awesome. There might be a chance that Williams and Weisz will split votes and if that happens, which it probably won't, it'll go to Catherine Keener, who was awesome as Harper Lee.

I agree completely. Michelle Williams absolutely broke my heart. She is very deserving of an award. It does seem that Weisz is favored, but who knows. There could be an upset there. Catherine Keener is an amazing actress.

Agreed. He did a wonderful job. By far, that was Joaquin's best role to date.
I actually really thought Reese Witherspoon stood out too, or maybe that was because she wasn't playing a Blondier-Than-Thou kinda gal. I did enjoy the flick, but I thought it fell short in some areas, most notably theme. But, as it was a true story, it can be hard to keep honest while still holding onto a dynamic theme. Aside from that, great acting and even musical performances.

But in the end, I just didn't think the film, as a whole, was much of anything special. I think I have heard this same story a million times before. But still, it's not always a bad story to hear.
