Will there ever bean official graphic designer ... or something like that? Not like I want to be one, but some people are starting to heavily contribute to that section now.

The requirements could be something broad based - like 10 avatars, 1 background, 5 banners, 2 photos, and 5 wallpapers... maybe 1 smiley set. That way the person who fulfills the requirements has talent in all aspects of design.

The requirements could be steeper - considering it is fairly easy to submit graphics.

True.. and it could cause the "official designer" to lose it's 'mystique'

They can still fall under the category of Offical Designers though. I mean, if they submit enough good orginal work I see no reason why not. Whether a person submits layouts or graphics, it all falls under the general category of design.

Yea but for that Micron would need to make a certian number of required designs to become an official designer....

Yeah they would have to be very original - not "easy" if you know what I mean. Official Designer needs to still be somewhat distinguished. it would lose it's flavor if everyone was one. The requirements need to be pretty steep. (well not too steep) Steep enouhg that only a talented, dedicated person would achieve it.

^ maybe something more like 25 avatars, 10 backgrounds, 10 banners, 10 photos, and 5 wallpapers... maybe 5 smiley sets.

Psssttt.. I hope your kidding, because that way I'd be more easier to be an official designer that makes layouts for xanga instead of graphic official designers.

^ I'm more up to digital.fragrace's idea, it's way more easier. I hope Jusun will consider this, I think there should be an official graphic designer

"More easier"? Ch. For graphic designer, I do agree with drilotedahl. Avatars, backgrounds and photos aren't that hard to produce in quantity. I would lower the wallpaper, smilies and banners simply because those require more time.
And no, it wouldn't be easier to become an official designer because, well, you can spend up to 2 hours on just the coding aspect nevermind the images that go with it. The requires a bit of brains about you, instead of just artistic talent. That's not meant to insult anyone, but you think more when you're coding than when you're designing. Especially when you've been staring at your screen for 5 hours and you're going over your code line by line because you can't find exactly what's wrong.

^ it doesn't have to really take that long. But i still agree with you. But digital.fragrance's idea is still easier in my opinion.

well easier to accomplish -- and i think it's good enough, i mean we could always change the standard, but im with her idea.

That's a great idea. The benefits should NOT be the same as offical member and designers. Obviously, it's not hard to contribute some pieces of graphic artwork, right? Besides, the membership doesnt seem to be balance with other memships at all. dont ya think?

How about .... give only forum prilvileges ONLY instead of uploaders and incoming profile website.

Yeah most definitely... I agree, ONLY the forum privileges. And there should be something distinguishing them... instead of "Official Designer" perhaps just "Graphics Designer"

I'm not really into this idea of being able to become an Official Designer through submitting graphics. For one, they don't have to code, like what Reili said,, and secondly, it's pretty easy to make a ton of avatars in one sitting. Most people could create a simple one in ten or less minutes simply by downloading a stock photo, cropping it, and then adding a couple brush effects. I wouldn't mind 'Official Graphic Designer' or something like that. Putting them in the same category as those who make layouts just seems to detract from the overall.. spiffiness.

Yeah, the name has to be different, and it would be a "step down" from Official Designer status. We have to face the fact that submitting raw graphics doesn't take much time at all...

^ very true but a name would still be nice because half the battle of making a layout is the graphic, isn't it?

Yeah, I like the idea of it being "a step down" from the Official Designer. As I said before, the graphics aren't really hard to produce - grab a stock photo, crop it, colorize it, add brushes, etc etc.

^ Agreed. In fact, I was just cruising through the graphics form and was wondering, what is the standard for posting a graphic there? I just saw three or four "graphics" that look like photos that have just been blurred.

So if adding a bunch of photos and not doing much other than to get gaussian blur friendly with them gets you a graphics designer nod, then in my opinion, that just lessens the importance of becoming an official designer. //just my opinion.

Yes, a member title would be essential and in layouts the graphic design can be the hardest part (except difficult table/div coding)- but layout graphic design isn't just designing an avatar or banner; it is designing an entire theme persay. So that is why it needs to be a step down.

Yes - what are the standards? It seems that some .. dare I say "tacky" ones have been accepted. But then again, does the graphics forum need to be as stringent as the layout forums? Probably not...

I'll agree that the staff overall has been fairly lenient when reviewing graphics, perhaps since the graphics thing is still new. I have rejected a fair amount myself, though. But then, maybe the more simple ones could have been in the stock photography category, those are meant for use in editing, so they should be bare images to start out with. *shrug* I do agree that we could be a little more strict.

I don't know about adding a new category, though. I know layouts are different from graphics, but to me it's just another category under "designs" just like everything else. I'm neutral as far as what gets done, but I definitely think it should be hard to get any sort of status with graphics. It still needs to be a somewhat respected position. :)

I'm sorry. I tend to adore really simple graphics and as long as it's not WRETCHED (which an awful lot are) or OFFENSIVE (which, again, a lot are), I will accept it. =X Am I too lenient for you people?

Nah, not thinking that at all, simple graphics are good. =)

In all seriousness though (or in all silliness, whatever you'd like), I think yesterday I was a little... um... annoyed that folks are putting up pictures (photographs) as "graphics". It's no biggie, I was just being a bore.
