no we celebrate it to GIVE THANKS TO GOD FOR DELIVERING THE PILGRIMS INTO THIS LAND SO THEY COULD HAVE CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S etc. (thats us) AND THAT THEY HAD FOOD TO SURVIVE WHICH THEY ATE WITH THE INDIANS. sounds like those 'Indians' which are actually Native Americans were really mad at us huh?

if you hate the origin of our country so much why don't you move to France or something.

wow you need to instantly die. No offense.

1. I'm 99% sure you're not a descendent of a pilgrim.

2. If the pilgrims died out, America would still be colonized.

3. If I told you the actual details to the real feast Native Americans and Pilgrims had, you'd cry.

4. Now go learn some real arguments that don't have to do with God.

I always thought it was ridiculous. Turkey day...argh. I hate how everyone calls it that, now. Mona and Chrissy explain it the best...when you change the name, the meaning gets lost.

thanksgiving, is a 'christianted' variation of a harvest celebration, found in many pagan religions that chirstianity denounces.

as far as the meaning, let me remind you waht the first thanksgiving was.

the pilgrims were starving and eating each other. they stole food from the indians. the indians decided to help them. they were all happy. 20 years later the pilgrims attacked the indians at a truce.

i don't care if that meaning gets lost.

thanksgiving, is to me, a time to spend with family.

it's a prelude to christmas.

^ Yeah, well that's not the meaning that the name "Thanksgiving" refers to, anyway. If it was originally called "Kill-the-Indians-after-they-kindly-gave-us-food Day" then I wouldn't care at all. But it's "Thanksgiving", it's a day to be thankful for what has been given to you.

LOL. I love you, Jeff, you're funny. BTW I don't see any significance in putting an extra "i" in Canada. =p And we celebrate Thanksgiving in October.

1. if you're not a descendent from a pilgrim, who're you descended from? (oh btw...the dictionary says a pilgrim is someone who travels to foreign lands meaning everyone who wasn't Native American)

2. You're right....American would still be colonized if the pilgrims died out. But that would mean we'd be about 2 or 300 years behind in technology.

3. Enlighten me. Humor me. Try me. I'm only crying cuz I'm so disappointed in your education and lack thereof. No offense, right?

4. I didn't mention God. Happy? probly not. But then, you never will be.

and 5. just type Pilgrims or Mayflower in Google and you will find millions of descendents descended from the surprise surprise! pilgrims. yay!

wow.

let me absorb that for a minute.

blink.gif

wow. just wow.

please god stop posting in topics you obviously have no clue about.

1. the pilgrims which were talking about are the puritans who came over from england and settled at plymouth rock. the pilgrim definition you're using is really a religious one.

2. erm... no. the puritans weren't even that interested in technology. they were a religious people.

3. im not even gonna respond to that. look in a mirror.

4. maybe you didnt directly mention god, but you definitely spoke of thanksgiving purely in a religious context.

and why is it that some christians believe that non-christians are doomed to a life of unhappiness?

so now I can't talk about RELIGION? hmmmmm.....okay. God.....religion. I don't know about this...correct me if I'm wrong....but God and religion are not the same thing.

you don't even answer my questions. which are legitimate, I might add.

so you think the pilgrims didn't think of new stuff? you think they all just sat around not looking for innovative new ideas??? "hey...why don't we try changing the gun around. you know, make it easier to handle and deal with and whatnot." "NAHH...i like it the way it is. It will probably NEVER change. WE obviously can't think of anything better!"

by saying that you were never going to be happy, I meant to say that you would never be happy with what I wrote, becuz I'm never going to convince you of anything. alas, I see that I wrote that wrong as well. I just can't do anything right, can I? silly me. I don't even know where the term Thanksgiving came from!!! who made that stupid term up anyway?? we obviously have NOTHING to be thankful for!

oh and btw...i don't think ALL nonChristians aren't happy for all of their lives. just a lot of them.

there are plenty of other debates going on involving religion.

this isnt one of them.

the puritans did not want to invent. do you know anyting about the puritans? besides the fact that im now reading the Scarlet Letter, which is set in New England in the 17th century, I am currently taking AP US History. i know what i'm talking about. the puritans we're very religious, and they were afraid of turning towards satan, and thus they strayed from anything that was too..artificial. hence, a lack of technological development.

and what questions did you ask?

saintruthanne,

1. i dont know what to say considering like 5 people "owned" you and you were too dumb to realize it.

2. you say:
QUOTE
THANKSGIVING IS TO GIVE THANKS TO GOD FOR DELIVERING THE PILGRIMS INTO THIS LAND SO THEY COULD HAVE CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S CHILDREN'S etc. (thats us) AND THAT THEY HAD FOOD TO SURVIVE WHICH THEY ATE WITH THE INDIANS.
nice history lesson, it reminds me of "Its thanks giving Charlie Brown!" first off, who's "us"? DaTru KataLyst (jeff right?) is asian, so how the hell are you gonna say he's a decendant of a pilgrim? and that can go for any other minority.

3.God delivered the pilgrims into this land? laugh.gif yes and god said "and kill all dem' red skin folk!" nobody's saying you cant talk about god. but considering not everyone believes in God and that brilliant theory your mom and charlie brown taught you, you should know the facts. pilgrims didnt come down from a ray in the clouds down onto america.

4. maybe you should watch this
http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/media/c...p=cartoon1021MD

oh, and what i think of the "turkey day" thing....its more of a nickname, chill out.
it'll always be thought of as Thanksgiving

Actually, my relatives came from Russia and Israel. They weren't pilgrims. I'm pretty sure none of ours were.

Sure, pilgrims mean immigrants, but in your context, they're the ones who founded the 13 colonies.
