My friends and I were having a discussion about running in cold weather? Does it really have advantages?

Well, I live in NYC too... I'm on the cross-country team, and a couple of weeks ago, we had our bouroughs meet. The weather that day was in the 40s and we had to run in our uniforms (shorts and a jersey, but we were allowed to wear a long sleeve under the jersey). Turns out, I ran my fastest time that day, along with everyone else on the team...
And besides, you could always bundle up if you go out running in the cold weather. And, 55-60 weather is NOT cold. That's perfect weather to run in.

Well, if you ever want to run in the cold, be sure to layer up. Not only does it protect your body from the heat, it also warms and relaxes your muscles.

If you sweat in the cold while running and if the sweat cools up, you have a good chance of gettin sick.

Yea, I live in Michigan and right now has been the best time for me to run, especially if it's not too windy.

I've noticed.
During practice one day, when it was really windy, everyone seemed to get better mile times than before.

well, you dont get as sweaty, but your body gets tense and sometimes its hard to loosen up.
also, if you run with not alot of clothes on, theres the risk of getting a cold.
err.. you get it.

I've heard it's bad for your lungs. But then again, that's Canada cold, not States cold.

When it is 40-50's out there in the morning, despite the lack of clothing layers, it is defintely harming our lungs and cause breathing hardships.

what about tank tops? they make underarmour tank tops....and I can't imagine not being allowed to wear that. You're allowed to wear a bra, aren't you?

55 to 60 is not cold.

i don't like running in the cold, cause it hurts my lungs and makes it difficult to breathe. but if you want to just make sure you put layers on and not get sick
