According to CNN.com the price of the Xbox 360 will vary.

300$ will get you a console, one controller that attaches through a wire, and your basic a/v cable.

An extra 100$ will get you a console, wireless controller, headset, the 20gig hard drive, and for a limited time, a wireless remote for use with the console's various other multimedia functions. Theyre even going to give you preloaded songs, videos, and other things onto the hard drive.

i heard that there's 2 types of the xbox 360 that'll be released:

one that comes fully-ready to play-out-of-the-box :)

and the other is like building your own computer...

I think I'll opt for the cheaper SKU.

That is, if I want it. If Perfect Dark Zero isn't all it's hyped up to be, I will lose interest in the 360.

[edit]Wow, the cheaper version stinks. I didn't know it wouldn't be Live and HD compatible. Don't even consider getting the $299 version. It's just not worth it.

for all the look issues the xbox haters have, why not look at the wonderfully sculpted PS3 controller? looks like an ugly ass boomerang.

the cheaper one is live compatible, it just wont come with live automatically. and the HD is detachable. the cheaper one is just the same with less accessories.

one big thing xbox has over PS3 is xbox live. Playstation's doesnt even come close

Exactly. It's not Live compatible out of the box. It's pretty much crippleware. It's not worth buying. The $400 is the one worth buying. But $400 is more money than I'm willing to spend.

meh, microsoft is shooting itself in the foot with this one. they're essentially competing with themselves in the media pc market.

microsoft is taking console gaming in the wrong direction here. they're trying to capture console gaming and make it pc gaming.

merging with the 360 thread.

well, the ps3 is apparently going the same "direction" as the xbox. DVR, dvd burner... etc. plust it will debut higher than the xbox. they seemed to have copied the microsoft strategy and are selling a "bare bones" one and a much higher priced one. and the other one is 500 dollars.

Oh please no. Sony will be shooting themselves in the foot if they use two SKUs.

Honestly, who is going to buy a "server" PS3 and a bunch of standalones?

Games used to be about family. They used to gather groups of kids and adults alike around one screen to create a family dynamic. It was like having a family dinner, but entertaining. And now its just become a cash cow, something people try to make more money in, or make more and more advanced, when FUN cant be advanced, technologically or otherwise.

not sure if they exist, but they could.

Ok maybe in japan they do that, but Ive never seen a place like that that didnt prodominatnly use computers instead of game systems.

And it is aimed at families, not businesses.

SKU means...?

well, i'm assuming it means whether you're going to buy the ps3 or xbox 360.

i'm definitely getting the xbox 360 because i've always thought that the graphics are a lot better than playstation. i also like the controllers a lot more.

SKU means stock keeping unit. There are two Xbox360 SKU's. The Core package, which is the $299 package, and the $399 Premium package.

The $299 package should not even be sold, in my opinion.

Yeah, really. I mean, whats the point?

Now, I have a question, can you play online with the Silver Xbox Live subscription? Or do you have to be upgraded to play?

BTW, Im not getting one unless I win it from mountain dew, of which I have 5 caps now, so yay!!

I'm certainly impressed by the technical specifications of the Xbox 360 (especially from an engineering standpoint), but it does make me wonder: does a gaming system really need all that power?
