to begin with, i'd like to point out that I do not support Bush. However, I cannot understand why people are blaming him for Katrina, just because he has troops in Iraq. It seems like a lame excuse to protest the war and find a scapegoat for the hurricane
so, do you think Bush is at fault for part of the Katrina ordeal? |

QUOTE(sprinkle-the-stars @ Sep 5 2005, 2:39 PM) You can't just be like "oh, well...who cares why so many people died? There were obviously some mistakes that the government made...but what the hell? There's nothing we can do about it now." if you don't blame anyone, then you can't solve anything and prevent shit like this from happening in the future. |

I think that it's his fault for not getting the people food, or proper help for a week! They waited a week and then they sent them help! A lot of people died from the hurrricane, but more people died dude to waiting for medication, and starving to death. The news is especially furious and you can tell by their reports.
The rapper K. West I think it was, said on the news live, "George Bush does not care about Black People." Many people believe this to be a genocide, and that the government waited a week to purposly kill people. Whether that is the truth or not I don't know, but that's what they said on the news. If it is the truth, it's the most horrible thing I have ever heard happen in my lifetime!! It is so sad that we live in time like these. I personally think that GW is a war criminal and should be locked up. The gov. cares more about other countries and their money than helping their own people! When other countires go through disasters, the US sends money, troops and help right away. Here, they wait a week before helping their own people! ![]() ![]() |

Well if it is, i think its a good thing, cause would you have people being pesimistic rather than optimistic, especially in a time like this. If people didnt have faith then they wouldnt be able to survive right now. I know if i didnt have something to look forward to,or have faith in, in school (which is graduating) i wouldnt be paying attention and getting decent grades. |

I dion't remember; i missed that question. But nevertheless, it's somehow related And Kristina, we must have a scapegoat for everything. Always. We live in the world of blame Cayte, all those people died BECAUSE THERE WAS A HURRICANE. no 'who cares' involved, but no 'bush didn't handle it right!' either |

i just thought it was interesting, that in times of crisis when logically people should be blaming god, they usually turn to god.
kinda shows the power of god, you know. anyways: the real fault here lies with whoever decided to separate the mississippi from it'd delta, which caused the wetlands to start dissapearing. |

I'm don't hold the opinion that Bush is responsible
And while being below sea levels seems to be working for the Netherlands, not so much for New Orleans. I'm farily certain they don't get too many hurricanes in Holland anyway |

QUOTE(sadolakced acid @ Sep 5 2005, 1:00 PM) That was on their own accord. They did something about it. Don't you think our country, who sends millions of dollars worth of food, water, clothing, etc. to other countries in need, a country who goes around claiming it is the most powerful country in the world, could save its own people too? A country who spends millions of dollars starting a war and liberating a country, saving them from their tyrant dictator could spare some money to save its own citizens from dying? A country who donates billions of dollars to other countries to help repair and save their people from their own national disaster? Especially with sufficient warning? How could this have gone on for 5 days..with nothing? There was talk of rebuilding and what to do about gas..don't you think perhaps those higher up should have an entire city's population's fate as their main priority? |

Yes. He has plans to use the budget for the repairing that freakin broken dam in Lousiana, but after he won the election in 2004, he started to use the money for Iraq instead. Because the dam is broken, the water started to fill up the city of New Orleans during Katrina.

^x2 The presidents over the years have all known about the threat of hurricanes and about the poor conditions of the levees and dams in the area. So if you're going to blame Bush, you might as well also blame Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, Nixon, Carter, etc...

I just love how they pull the race issue into the whole thing. There were people on the news saying, "Bush didn't help us! He hates black people!"
What exactly does being black have to do with this? Don't get me wrong, but that's just what I heard/saw myself on the news. I think it's stupid, but hey. If he didn't get there, he didn't get there, whether it was because of the weather conditions or not. Just help the people as soon as possible and hope for the best. |

They purposely show pictures of black people waiting for help and pictures of seemingly well-to-do white people rescued and staying in shelters. They refuse to show the white people still stranded, and the black people who were safely evacuated. |

Since when did celebrities have rational thoughts about the government? (Don't argue, I know there are some politically smart celebrities. They're just rare. Really rare.) And Joe, the media has a history on thriving off of 'evil'. Some of us can tell the difference between news and pure idiotic propaganda, but many can't. It is the downfall of mankind. |

^ they can, however, control if water is allowed to flow through the mississippi river delta, which would rebuild the wetlands, and protect new orleans.

I'm not kidding. Even in this age of advanced technology, floods and other hurricane wreckage are still hard to overcome. It's not like New Orleans is a small town where everyone can be found easily

QUOTE(ermfermoo @ Sep 5 2005, 9:11 PM) edit // grr....let me rephrase it. QUOTE if you don't blame anyone, then you can't solve anything and prevent shit like this from happening in the future. if you don't blame anyone, then you can't reflect on the mistakes the administration made when the hurricane hit. instead of saying "well, it was a natural disaster and there's nothing we can or could've done about it", next time the government can have an immediate plan that will take action and prevent that many people from dying like in this instance. who knows....the next catastrophy in America could be another terrorist attack. THAT'S what i meant...the government should have an immediate plan in case god forbid there IS another terrorist attack. would you want Bush to react the same way he did when Hurricane Katrina hit? I doubt it. |

...yes you can. I's perfectly easy to improve upon the way something is handled without blaming someone. Honestly, you're not in Lousisiana, Missississippi, or in any way affiliated with the government. Just because the media doesn't cover a reason that something didn't get done perfectly doesn't mean it didn't occur
