to begin with, i'd like to point out that I do not support Bush. However, I cannot understand why people are blaming him for Katrina, just because he has troops in Iraq. It seems like a lame excuse to protest the war and find a scapegoat for the hurricane

I think that it's his fault for not getting the people food, or proper help for a week! They waited a week and then they sent them help! A lot of people died from the hurrricane, but more people died dude to waiting for medication, and starving to death. The news is especially furious and you can tell by their reports.
The rapper K. West I think it was, said on the news live, "George Bush does not care about Black People." Many people believe this to be a genocide, and that the government waited a week to purposly kill people. Whether that is the truth or not I don't know, but that's what they said on the news. If it is the truth, it's the most horrible thing I have ever heard happen in my lifetime!!
It is so sad that we live in time like these. I personally think that GW is a war criminal and should be locked up. The gov. cares more about other countries and their money than helping their own people! When other countires go through disasters, the US sends money, troops and help right away. Here, they wait a week before helping their own people! This really angers me, obviously...

I'm also very sad about all the lives that were lost... I hope that the familys suffering due to a loss, or losses find peace and hope...

Well if it is, i think its a good thing, cause would you have people being pesimistic rather than optimistic, especially in a time like this. If people didnt have faith then they wouldnt be able to survive right now.

That was on their own accord. They did something about it. Don't you think our country, who sends millions of dollars worth of food, water, clothing, etc. to other countries in need, a country who goes around claiming it is the most powerful country in the world, could save its own people too? A country who spends millions of dollars starting a war and liberating a country, saving them from their tyrant dictator could spare some money to save its own citizens from dying? A country who donates billions of dollars to other countries to help repair and save their people from their own national disaster?

Especially with sufficient warning? How could this have gone on for 5 days..with nothing? There was talk of rebuilding and what to do about gas..don't you think perhaps those higher up should have an entire city's population's fate as their main priority?

Yes. He has plans to use the budget for the repairing that freakin broken dam in Lousiana, but after he won the election in 2004, he started to use the money for Iraq instead. Because the dam is broken, the water started to fill up the city of New Orleans during Katrina.

It wouldn't have mattered. The dam wasn't going to be finished in time anyway.

^x2 The presidents over the years have all known about the threat of hurricanes and about the poor conditions of the levees and dams in the area. So if you're going to blame Bush, you might as well also blame Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, Nixon, Carter, etc...

I just love how they pull the race issue into the whole thing. There were people on the news saying, "Bush didn't help us! He hates black people!"

What exactly does being black have to do with this? Don't get me wrong, but that's just what I heard/saw myself on the news. I think it's stupid, but hey. If he didn't get there, he didn't get there, whether it was because of the weather conditions or not. Just help the people as soon as possible and hope for the best.

It's all the media's doing. They purposely show pictures of black people waiting for help and pictures of seemingly well-to-do white people rescued and staying in shelters. They refuse to show the white people still stranded, and the black people who were safely evacuated.

if you don't blame anyone, then you can't reflect on the mistakes the administration made when the hurricane hit. instead of saying "well, it was a natural disaster and there's nothing we can or could've done about it", next time the government can have an immediate plan that will take action and prevent that many people from dying like in this instance.
