hey.

the nalgene bottle is quite strong and tough, and ive heard rumors about how strong they are (all statements below exclude the bottle cap):

1. it is impossible to break the nalgene bottle in one shot.
2. if one were to shoot the nalgene with a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, the bullet will ricochet off and the bottle will remain intact.
3. the bottle can withstand one or more sticks of dynamite, and will not blow apart in one go.
4. acid can be put in the nalgene and the nalgene will still be intact.
5. the bottle will not break in one smash or grind, from a super-hard smash of a hammer to a runover of a truck or bulldozer.
6. the nalgene can withstand fire, but will soften after burning for a long time.

thing is, i heard of them, but i dont think its true. in fact its kinda sounds like the 'invincible material' in which is impossible, i.e. it sounds like bs.

so what do u ppl think?

What is a naglane bottle? is that just what the material is made of? It sounds unreal, but I wouldn't be one to actually test all of those things. I think I'll just take their word for it pinch.gif

I went on a 68 mile trip with 4 Nalgene bottles, I asked experts about this.

1. Yes It is possible to break a Nalgene in one shot

2. A shotgun shot will probably ricochet, but a shot from a rifle wil cause the Nalgene to actually shatter. Since it is made of a simalar material to Kevlar, it doesn't "give" as the bullet hits it, and it shatters.

3. Most likely yes, but only if the stick was not put IN the nalgene, like right next to it.

4. It depends in the Molarity, and the strength of the acid, also the Model of Nalgene you buy, there are several models. Another factor is if there are any weaker spots in the material..

5. Run over by a bulldozer, no, it will not survive, but me and a friend tried a truck once, and it worked. the outside was a little scratched, but it didn't break.

6. Anythingwill burn, but a Nalgene in my estimation of the material would not last more than an hour in fire, completely full of water..
the stuff heats up pretty quickly in the sun..

Nalgene bottles are made of Lexan, which is an incredibly durable plastic that is also used in the aerospace industry to make aircraft canopies and windscreens. It's not "indestructable", but it's pretty tough stuff.

If you do break your Nalgene bottle, you can send it back to the company for a replacement. Sometimes they even send you more than one back.

Nalgene bottles are like water bottles, in a way.
My friend told me about how the material they are made of are tough, but that seems cool. I want one.

I love Nalgene bottles. I wish they would figure out a drinking and carrying system like camelback *dream* has. While hiking out of the Grand Canyon last year, I used one to protect a couple of butterfiles and a dragonfly I found. I was going to put them in a shadowbox, but ended up giving them away.

they're not 20 bucks. They are relatively cheap considering the strength. If you go and buy one for 20 bucks your getting ripped off.

Just make sure that if you put it in the freezer, don't let it tip over cuz, that's happened to mine, and one bubbled and one completely cracked.
