White culture conquered this land, wrote the rules of order, government and the history books. Every aspect of politics and business are influenced, owned and controlled by whites. Isn't that enough?

QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 8:54 PM) Yeah, try being taken away from your homeland, beaten to death, forced to work, and denied rights that you should be born with for years and years. Don't call me racist, I'm half white but.... Every day is white history month, in social studies we hear about white people We turn on the tv and there is white people I don't have another point so I'm going to move on with my speech Its not like there is only a black history month, there is a hispanic and asian month too (one is in may I think) Lets just embrace a culture our ancestors ignored for years. Without no further ado, Power to the people (woot woot) Even though i posted in this topic before. i just have to say that i agree with everything you wrote, because one month out of 12 months to honor African-Americans is not a lot. And people here are making a great big deal about it. And also yes its true that African-Americans were taken from their homeland, beaten, forced to work, and etc, like you mentioned. So after all that suffering African-Americans deserve something from all that suffering. I mean seriously February is the shortest month in the year (not much at all). Even though no African-Americans today had to go through slavery, but their ancestors did and Black History month is to honor them, who fought and died for freedom. |

QUOTE(illumineering @ Aug 9 2005, 11:25 PM) Can you elaborate on your post? It doesn't make sense. Are you contradicting or supporting this quote? No not all, I don't support what she said. In the old days, when England was ruled by monarchy regular people had no say in what could happen with the government. If you contradicted the ways of the kings or queens you could be torched or killed. Locked in a cell or a basement. If you practiced a religion that they did not approve of this could happen too. I mean, there is no country in which all people are treated equally, ever though that governments/country may have been founded or rebuilt on the promise of equality. Slavery just happened to be one that hit our homeland, if your so hung up about it. Maybe you should stop buying Abercrombie and Fitch and such cloths that make there products in for countries. You know damn well as I do that they are using cheap labor. When you talk to Dell Tech Support your talking to someone that Dell pays less than HALF of what a American Tech support agent makes. |

QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 11:54 PM) Yeah, try being taken away from your homeland, beaten to death, forced to work, and denied rights that you should be born with for years and years. The Jews have been oppressed WAY more than African-Americans, yet they seem to be doing all right for themselves. QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 11:54 PM) Don't call me racist, I'm half white but.... It doesn't matter what race you are to be racist. QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 11:54 PM) Every day is white history month, in social studies we hear about white people Because we don't want to forget about those great black leaders of our nation, or those great black leaders of Europe, where our nation's ancestry is... Or those great black leaders of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, which were our two main opponents in recent years. Could the reason we don't study more black people in history be that the vast majority of the people who had a significant impact on the United States were white, largely because the United States was, after all, founded by white people? Could it be that, in history, white people have had a tendency to keep records and use written languages that were fairly easy to learn, thus making it a whole lot easier to study Roman history in depth than Bantu history, and thus making Roman history more easily understandable to the average person? Could it be that technological advances such as the printing press simply caused white people to have a bigger, and more easily traceable role, in history? I think so. It's not racist to study mostly white people, when mostly they are the ones that have put down records and done things that have made them easy to study. "Black" cultures that kept records, like Ancient Egypt, are studied in-depth too... it's not an issue of racism, it's the issue that it's a hell of a lot easier to study a white culture that writes everything down and played a significant impact in the development of the United States, than a black culture that doesn't have a written language and didn't contribute any noteworthy INDIVIDUALS to the USA. QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 11:54 PM) We turn on the tv and there is white people There's quite a few black people too. QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 11:54 PM) Its not like there is only a black history month, there is a hispanic and asian month too (one is in may I think) So that proves that these "months" are anti-white, not pro-black. Good job. QUOTE(xx_Fashionista_xx @ Aug 9 2005, 11:54 PM) Lets just embrace a culture our ancestors ignored for years. Without no further ado, Power to the people (woot woot) "Power to the people" implies majoritarianism. Black people are a minority. The whole idea of black history month takes power away from the people. |

no offense, but people saying that "whites" are all over the tv and blah blah blah, sound pretty racist themselves. im caucasian, but im certaintly not white. i mean, im really pale, so people say im white, but im not white. and "blacks" aren't black! to even say that is pretty racist. (warning: repeating earlier argument) to even say that "blacks" deserve a month to honor people, merely because they are "black" is racist. that's putting a race forward. and....what if there was a guy, say Greg McDoogle, an Irish, African, Greek scientist who helped a lot with genetic research. wheres his month?
and yes! im not the only jewish person in here. ![]() |

QUOTE(insomniac @ Aug 3 2005, 3:13 PM) i dont really understand why there are any months. should one race be honored over others? if we're really trying to stop racism, we have to stop honoring races. people are now overcompensating for what people did a hundred years ago. i dont think anyone here was personally enslaved....if im wrong, then you're old. to have a black history month, or any ______ history month puts one race on a pedestal, showing how good that is. why do we even have races? does the color of your skin really matter? do you feel that one group of people is better than another only because they're skin is darker than yours? im sorry...but i just think the entire concept of races is wrong. ^that |

theres a pretty fine line between ethnicity and race. but being proud of your greek heritage is nothign to be ashamed of. but if there are people saying they deserve some recognition because people a long time ago whose skin is the same color were enslaved. some black people have never been to africa. theres nothing wrong with "African Heritage Month", or "Greek Heritage Month". but black history month...its different. did that make sense?

oh yea, i'm not having problem with your argument, i'm just curious about why race is wrong. i meant to say that race and ethnic are factual and not ethnic alone, sorry about that.

Well, don't they say "check one: White, Black, Asian... etc....." on government forums and all that good stuff. QUOTE The Jews have been oppressed WAY more than African-Americans, yet they seem to be doing all right for themselves. I know nothing about history... but I think (and only think) slavery lasted centuries and centuries while the holocaust was a little more than 10 years, I think. Well I think that since we already gave African American's the month, why take it away, I see no problems in the news about it, so this topic isn't that necessary. Okay I just want to say this. honestly: There is no white history month, just get over it and focus on other world problems. |

decendents of slaves should recieve no compensation for thier ancestors being in slavery. the decendednts of slaves actually benifited from slavery. which would you rather live in, mississipi where the KKK might lynch you, of somolia where you can get killed for just looking out the window? |

The Holocaust was but a tiny bit of how much Jews have been persecuted. And I use tiny bit to apply to the length of time, not impact; I'd say the Holocaust had a pretty big impact on Jews. Does not necessitate a month? I don't know. I'm not trying to argue that; just pointing out that it's inaccurate to say that the Jews have not been persecuted very much. |

I think black history month was made by Americans, and the holocaust things happen somewhere in Europe... but that has no relevance.
I don't know why this topic led to Jews anyways but, African American History Month isn't all about slavery, if it was, it would be a bandage like "te-he, we keep you in slavery, denied your rights after the reconstruction admendments, and kept you out of our schools until the 1960's and we want to make it up for you with a month". Its because for years black inventers, literature writers, leaders, and other people have not had the recognition they deserve, since we neglected their culture for so long. It's just a month to remember that black people have had a strong role in america, and without them - along with caucasians, asians and pacific islanders, white and non white hispanics, and Native Americans, America would cease to exist. The point I'm making is that Black History month doesn't say that Jews haven't been mistreated, it doesn't say they acomplished more than whites or any other ethnic group. It's just celebrating one of the many groups that have benefited soceity QUOTE decendents of slaves should recieve no compensation for thier ancestors being in slavery. the decendednts of slaves actually benifited from slavery. which would you rather live in, mississipi where the KKK might lynch you, of somolia where you can get killed for just looking out the window? I can't really believe you said that. There probably wouldn't be a KKK if slavery hadn't had happen in the first place and who knows, Africa might have been filled with love and all that good crap if the "white men" didn't invade. But it's all part of the "big what if" |

QUOTE I know nothing about history... but I think (and only think) slavery lasted centuries and centuries while the holocaust was a little more than 10 years, I think. i made a post, but i guess i forgot to actually press the button... jews were enslaved and mistreated for thousands of years. go back to at least 3000 B.C.E. and in the holocaust, only a mere amount of time for the jewish mistreatment, 6 million jews were killed. 6 million. QUOTE don't know why this topic led to Jews anyways some people are saying that the only basis for a black history month was the fact that many black people were slaves. i was only comparing their situation to the jews. they are in fact, quite similar. only the jewish situation is on a much bigger scale. and thats my last jewish comment. i swear. people always get mad at me for repeatedly debating the same point... ![]() |

okay so i didnt read the whole 18 pages on this...so i probably am going to repeat some things...but bear with me on this one
oh yeah also...i'm talking about in america...not around the world okay. no there should not be a white history month....or a black history month...or a hispanic history month...or an asian history month...or any ethnicity history month. by having any of these you're saying that this one month is the only month that we study black history. that is just not true. we simply go along with the history book and read about the people who have made the country what it is. regardless of race. sure we study mostly about whites because whites are the ones who developed the country....and yes i know that they were in power so they wrote the history books....i know blacks suffered from slavery and all but that is the past. we can never compensate for what happend to those people. one month dedicated to black history isnt going to do it. |

Seriously. And if we're doing this because of discrimination, white people are discriminated against too..if you want proof, look for my "nobody likes white people" topic in the lounge.
Also, I brought up the Jewish thing a FREEEAKING long time ago because people were accusing me of not knowing what it's like to be a minority cause I'm white. ![]() WE DO NOT STUDY WHITE PEOPLE ALL YEAR. We study Americans, and only in US History. It's not surprising there's a lot of white people in American history. However, in high school, you only study US History one year. And there is still a lot of minorities included in that. You don't think we study the Civil War, and all the events and causes for it? You don't think we study slavery? You don't think we study the Mexican American War? You don't think we study America's bombings of Hiroshima? We study everything in America's history, white or not, and without special months. Seriously, what more do you learn than you didn't other months during Black History Month? We get assigned a report on a famous black person, since we had studied important African-American events earlier in the year. So if one more person tells me that I learn about white people all year and we don't include any minorities except during Black History Month, I'll inform Fae and she'll warn you for not reading through the thread, because that is not true. |
