QUOTE(PiGo @ Aug 1 2005, 11:25 PM) When did anyone ever say that "_____ History Month" makes up for everything wrong that happened to them?, because it definatly doesn't. then why have it? why recognize on race over all others for a month? why? the only reason i can come up with is that that race is too stupid to keep thier own history and thus other people must be forced to keep it for them. obviously, this is not the case, so why QUOTE(PiGo @ Aug 2 2005, 12:01 AM) That's why 33% of Blacks, and 30% of Hispanics in America are considered impoverished whereas only 11% of Whites fit in the category. Right, cause Africa is a continent where everyone is poor and has AIDs ![]() Slavery was started by africans. slaver ships bought slaves from africans. If there were no costal african tribes, there would be no slavery either. the impoverishness of blacks and hispanics is quite inevitable. expecailly when someone wears a suit they're acting 'white'. it's the whole mentality of blacks and hispanics- that they're inherently inferior- that's the only thing that makes them more impoverished. it's an attitude problem. the take blacks and whites and make them take a test. they tell one group it's a world skills test, and the other group that it's a math test. it is, of course, a math test- a test that it's been proven black people do worse on. guess what? the blacks who were told it was a world skills test did just as good or better than the whites. it is the attitude that help is needed to succeed that stops blacks from succeeding. QUOTE(AkaRyux @ Aug 2 2005, 12:12 AM) right on. QUOTE(CrackedRearView @ Aug 2 2005, 12:14 AM) actions in the sixties? what about a woman's month? thier actions to get civil rights and voting, in the 30s, was it? why isn't there one that's celebrated by schools? QUOTE(say_what_you_mean @ Aug 2 2005, 12:26 AM) Is it just me or is U.S. history basically white history anyhow ? If racism didn't exist then I'm sure certain miniority advantages wouldn't exist either. I can see where the white people come from but can you really put yourself in what any minority goes through. Sure everyone is discriminated for other reasons than race but it really hits a home run when someone discriminates against you just because of you're race. It really makes you want to tighten you're fist. If anything black history month is just giving others an insight on what african americans went through.. celebrating freedom and rights. Something they didn't have. I don't know if that makes sense.. I never post in debate. U.S history is basically white history. Why? becuase in history, it's white people. should we re-write history to include more black, although ficticious, people? should we devote unessisary time studying thier history? 2+2=5 i love big brother |

ok so i didnt know when they were. i dont know about your school, but mine never hung up special posters or anything celebrating any special month.
in my opinion, the main reason why black history month is so popular is because of their influence in the media/music. most people under the age of 30 would rather watch MTV over CNN. arent there plenty of blacks on mtv who promote black history month? |

He didn't mean specifically schools. If you turn on a channel like the N during February, you will see all sorts of things for black history month. Same for Disney. Beyond that, I'm sure they do as well, but I didn't watch much tv before this summer. The point is, it is widely recognized, because if you we don't recognize them, we must be trying to suppress them again. However, to say people only recognize black history month is because they watch MTV is ludicicrous |

QUOTE(tweeak @ Aug 2 2005, 12:43 AM) I think it's not so much that Europenas were more advanced, but more that their interests tended to differ from the rest of the world. Thus, they could overcome others like Native Americans because they wanted different things. No, silly, they wanted the same thing--the prosperous new world land and the Indians' labor. If they wanted different things, they would both go their own ways, and thus no conflict would happen. |

QUOTE(xchrystizzle @ Aug 2 2005, 12:25 AM) ok. so maybe when people start getting over themselves and trying to make their race superior, we'll have equality. [off topic] and if jesus & mary were from the middle east wouldnt they be darker skinned? i dont mean black, but tan. not white. yet another example of how the whites dominate. JEWS ARE WHITE! They are just as white as italians. |

I meant the Europeans as a whole wanted different things from the Native Americans |

No they didn't. They wanted the exact same thing--America.
When people want different things, they don't kill each other. It's when people want the same things that they have to fight over it (because there's only so much to go around). |

But they wanted different things from America. The Natives wanted their freedom, the Europeans wanted gold and their enslavement. The Europeans were much more interested in settling other lands than the Americans, which is what I was actually referring to. They were more advanced in their aspects of trade routes and such, while the tribes such as Aztecs and Mayans (can't remember who excelled in what) had extremely advanced calenders and pyramids and such.

QUOTE(ComradeRed @ Aug 3 2005, 12:14 AM) So the reason that they wanted America was different--but that doesn't change the fact that they still wanted America. the natives didnt want america, per se. i dont care who runs my country (to an extent), as long as i am allowed to live peacefully within it. the natives were the same. QUOTE(ComradeRed @ Aug 3 2005, 12:14 AM) If I want $10,000 to buy a used car, and you want $10,000 to buy a really high-end computer, we both want $10,000--just for different reasons. well spoken bulls**t. at essence, this analogy is majorly flawed. neither of you want $10k, you want the objects. if someone were to award you the car for free, you would no longer want the money. QUOTE(ComradeRed @ Aug 3 2005, 12:14 AM) But the European trade routes proved more useful, no? they achieved the purposes that those who built them wished to create. the capitalist country america is today. but consider the other side of the argument. if america had not been colonised by us europeans, it would have remained a largely vast, empty space. but it would have been paradise. europe would have continued to develop, but it would probably be another few hundred years before europe got to the point the world is at today, if it ever did. (if world war one still occured, germany would probably win. under the regime they had, technology would not have exploded as it has this last century.) |
