Slavery was started by africans. slaver ships bought slaves from africans. If there were no costal african tribes, there would be no slavery either.

the impoverishness of blacks and hispanics is quite inevitable. expecailly when someone wears a suit they're acting 'white'. it's the whole mentality of blacks and hispanics- that they're inherently inferior- that's the only thing that makes them more impoverished. it's an attitude problem.

the take blacks and whites and make them take a test. they tell one group it's a world skills test, and the other group that it's a math test. it is, of course, a math test- a test that it's been proven black people do worse on.

guess what? the blacks who were told it was a world skills test did just as good or better than the whites. it is the attitude that help is needed to succeed that stops blacks from succeeding.

U.S history is basically white history. Why? becuase in history, it's white people. should we re-write history to include more black, although ficticious, people? should we devote unessisary time studying thier history?

and no one said anything about rewriting history or anything. the original question was about white history month & whether we should have it. not about adding fictional characters in history.

we have black history month, hispanic heritage month, etc etc to learn about those cultures' histories. the stuff that arent already in our history textbooks. in case you didnt know or were to lazy to search, there are a couple other ____ history/heritage months.

ok so i didnt know when they were. i dont know about your school, but mine never hung up special posters or anything celebrating any special month.
in my opinion, the main reason why black history month is so popular is because of their influence in the media/music. most people under the age of 30 would rather watch MTV over CNN. arent there plenty of blacks on mtv who promote black history month?

He didn't mean specifically schools. If you turn on a channel like the N during February, you will see all sorts of things for black history month. Same for Disney. Beyond that, I'm sure they do as well, but I didn't watch much tv before this summer. The point is, it is widely recognized, because if you we don't recognize them, we must be trying to suppress them again. However, to say people only recognize black history month is because they watch MTV is ludicicrous

If you cared so much about getting your heritage a 'History Month', perhaps you should get a group of people and march to Congress.

No they didn't. They wanted the exact same thing--America.

When people want different things, they don't kill each other. It's when people want the same things that they have to fight over it (because there's only so much to go around).

But they wanted different things from America. The Natives wanted their freedom, the Europeans wanted gold and their enslavement. The Europeans were much more interested in settling other lands than the Americans, which is what I was actually referring to. They were more advanced in their aspects of trade routes and such, while the tribes such as Aztecs and Mayans (can't remember who excelled in what) had extremely advanced calenders and pyramids and such.

How are we unable to keep our own history when the concept was created and celebrated first among the African American community?

So the reason that they wanted America was different--but that doesn't change the fact that they still wanted America.

they achieved the purposes that those who built them wished to create. the capitalist country america is today. but consider the other side of the argument. if america had not been colonised by us europeans, it would have remained a largely vast, empty space. but it would have been paradise.
europe would have continued to develop, but it would probably be another few hundred years before europe got to the point the world is at today, if it ever did. (if world war one still occured, germany would probably win. under the regime they had, technology would not have exploded as it has this last century.)

i can tell you more about frederick douglass than benjamin franklin. benjamin franklin was undoubtably the more influential of the two- he helped secure french help in the revolutionary war.

also, look in the SAT. in the 10 real SATs released by the college board, in the sentence completion questions there were 32 real people mentioned.

8 african americans
5 hispanics
3 asain americans
10 males

of the 10 males mentions, 7 were minorities and 2 weren't american.

the only white guy mentioned? thomas jefferson. in a questions about him not condemning lottery.

in america's quest to become "equal", the balance has been tipped too far.

it is the majority which is disadvantaged by the government.
