i just don't want a useless function that doesn't have any purpose but to let people cry about how little people are reading thier topic.
*

As opposed to people crying about a feature?

Get over it. If people do cry about it, other uesrs will let them know it's annoying.

Have any of these things actually happened yet? I don't think so--certainly not on a large scale. The function is nice to see who is viewing a topic and who might be replying in one--it can be useful in some topics where there is fast-paced discussion on an issue. I don't think there are people going around crying about who doesn't comment, or that no one is reading the topic. I honestly don't think anyone really examines the users that closely in a topic; if they need to know for some reason who is viewing/replying in a topic, they can, but otherwise, I don't think there are users going around stalking people, or sitting at their computer hitting "Refresh" so they can see who is looking at their topic.

have you not noticed the pattern of whatever we say could happen happening? for example, the over-running of the teams. sure enough, it occured, just as predicted

Justin, stop crying. You want the feature removed because you won't stop crying about it? Get over it. Our members have spoken. Regardless of why you think it's a bad idea, why should I listen to you when an overwhelming majority wants to keep the feature?

what? i'm not crying that it's still going to be here. but i'm not going to stop putting big brother at the end of every post, but that's just because.

there is, of course, no reason why you should listen to me. I'm not telling you to remove it; i'm tellling people to vote for it's removal. If they don't so be it.

plus, i like putting useless stuff at the end of my posts. laugh.gif

i guess some people don't want to be seen as obsessive people that care immensely about their .. whatsitcalled. hmm. reputation! so if someone sees someone reading a lot on the love/hate threads while they claim to be indifferent to people's opinions... rolleyes.gif of course it doesn't always mean something like that, but just as long as it doesn't start anything, i'm happy.

i personally don't care. it's a pretty cool feature, but i can do with/without it.

When they're underline, hover over the name. It tells you that they're replying. (I remind myself of Frankie. biggrin.gif) The blue&bold ones are mods.

It's basically just the the other list. Blue text denotes an official member or official designer. Bold text denotes a moderator. Italicized text denotes headstaff or admin.

It is a neat feature, but I'm logged in as invisible so I don't have any reasons to complain.

But guys, you're telling Mr. Acid to just log in as invisible and basically to ignore the feature, right? So, it's possible to ignore things/people, right? Just ignore his "big brother is watching" thing.

Mr. Acid.... lol, I know I shouldn't be encouraging you because I don't like what you're doing, but I thought the "big brother" thing is a clever, albeit annoying, way to get people's attention. But come on, doesn't it get bothersome to have to get that in all your posts?

now that's unfair. some people probably don't even know that there's a thread where they vote on whether they want it or not. give it a week, at least. so close next monday, please? if people really want it, the poll won't change by then.

big brother is watching. and broadcasting it to everyone.

it's a rather useless feature, and it disturbs me. it's like in britian... "safe beneath our watchful eyes"

now, i guess i haven't fully explained why i'm against it:

- some people might talk to someone personally, off topic, simply because they're viewing the topic.

- some people don't like it- it's like "your papers please", and thus log on invisible. logging on invisible means that more and more people will appear offline forever. this makes PMing someone about something and knowing you'll get an immediate answer much more complicated.

that being said: observe:

since i first started the "big brother" quotes, there has been a gradual rise in the anonymous user.

well, it gets to be a habit. copy and paste, as well as notepad, helps.

and another reason why not to have this:

zepfel, i think you just voted yes. how'd i know? because you were the only one viewing when the poll number went up.

of course, it could have been someone a few seconds before you who just left, but who knows.

polls aren't truely anonymous anymore.

there is no feasible reason that you have stated to remove the new feature.

i bet that you're not quite so concerned in real life. (loyalty cards, credit cards, mobile phones, cash, house phones, certain consumer items are all trackable. i would be willing to bet you use two-thirds of these, at the least.)
