^ (to Shana_Kru) But why? I don't think I'm any better off than the black kid who lives down the street from me. Why does he get an extra 5 points on his ISTEP and SAT? Why does he get a month to honor his heritage and the hardships he went through? Why don't I? I mean, if all of this to get fairness, we should make it fair. All of this - the special months, holidays, affirmative action - was because people considered black people to be inferior and to be less off than other races. However, I don't think that's the case now, unless you really believe them to be inferior.

saying black history month is ok is like saying a murderer can pay 1 million dollars to the family of the person they killed and that equalizes everything.

actually...  it's more like saying that the son of a murderer, nay; grandson of a murderer can pay 1 million dollars to the grandson of the victim and that equalizes everything.

big brother is watching

When did anyone ever say that "_____ History Month" makes up for everything wrong that happened to them?, because it definatly doesn't.

It's just a bunch of people turning up their noses because someone else gets recognized. It happens when it comes to employment positions, academic achievements, and success and glory in general.

Human stupidity at its best.

stubborn.gif i would quote, but then my post would be too long. so first off, someone said it took a white man to free the blacks from slavery. i'm not trying to sound racist, but if the blacks weren't slaves, they wouldn't need a white man to help them. and if they needed any help they would have a fellow black man help.

i don't think we need a white history month. maybe like hispanic history month, since it's the blacks and hispanics who are usually on the bottom of our society. come on, think about it. if there was a crime commited and there were 4 suspects, a white, an asian, a hispanic, and a black, who would most people accuse? the black. and then the hispanic.

anyways, like many people have said, if we had a "white history month" we would need one for all the other races-asian, jewish, arabic, etc. but hey, let's face it - every race/culture is different, so there is no way of being "equal". everyone wants to be on the top of society, meaning there will always be someone at the bottom. unless that's your idea of equal.

//edit i just googled it and there is a hispanic history month...but its not as popular. i wonder why...

Just because there's more people of a certain race doesn't mean they're necessarily on top.

Turn on MTV. Tell me what race you mostly see.
Turn on Blue Collar TV on Comedy Central. Look at the "Yard of the Week" they show and then tell me most of the people you see on MTV are worse off than the people they show on Blue Collar TV due to their skin color.

Face it. White people founded this country. I know Native Americans were here before, and white people took it over, but hey, they did it. Of course there's going to be a lot of white people in history books. They founded the country. A lot of black people wouldn't be sitting in their nice suburban American home if it were not for slavery. They would be in poverty dying from widespread AIDs in Africa.

At least they're not being murdered due to their race. A hundred years ago they were slaves..yes. That isn't good. My ancestors' bad! I apologize for something I had no control over. rolleyes.gif OH WAIT NO! Not my ancestors. My family immigrated here in the 1940s to escape the Holocaust! We didn't enslave anybody.

I don't think anyone should be given special treatment due to their skin color, religion, etc. If the history books are THAT big of a deal, they could get rewritten and include everyone.

^ As nice as that would be, history couldn't be re-written, for the simple fact that it's not written by the losers, as you alluded to, but by those who dominate. But that's the point of these special months, to give everyone an equal opportunity.

ok i just googled stuff again and there isn't a "white" history month but there's also an american heritage month, in november, an asian/pacific islander month, in may, and a hispanic heritage month, september 15 til october 15.

i guess all they're missing is native americans, austrailians, europeans & middle easterns. haha bush would just love a middle eastern heritage month -_-; i suppose indians (from india, not native ones) can be classified as asians..

in our textbooks there will be whites, and whatever we did to interact with other races, in other textbooks, it may be different, it's all about perspective...and "white people don't get respect"? I hate to say this, because I am very anti-racist, but people respect white people more than others races in this country...it's sad, yes, but that is what you and your neighbor are used to seeing; white people, not anything else.

^ That doesn't sound like respect at all. It sounds like a norm. And don't say "I hate to say this but" before saying something that you do want to say. Cut the back talk.

You couldn't have European history month, it'd be too vague. You'd have to break it down into countries. But then again, that's why there's World History and European History classes in school.

There's really no reason to post it twice.

Why would you even have a history month for every race? How about we all be neutral and have none at all? Wouldn't that be more equal and less controversial?

Yes, but people need to realize that the United States champions Black History month because we carry the guilt of persecuting blacks.

We don't carry Europe's guilt.

Then how do you explain the Rosewood Incident in Florida in the early 1900s, Emmett Till in the 1950s, and other assorted incidents of racial lynching?

That's why 33% of Blacks, and 30% of Hispanics in America are considered impoverished whereas only 11% of Whites fit in the category.

Right, cause Africa is a continent where everyone is poor and has AIDs rolleyes.gif. The main reason why things are so bad there today is because of European Imperialism anyways, so if their was no slavery I'm sure things would be a lot different there.

no, because in the future, all kids will know about is world history when the only great thing blacks did was build pyramids. of course they were slaves, too. they'll learn about how the japanese were put in those camps. they'll only learn what the history books teach them. about whites. unless they rewrite the history books.

Alright, so we celebrate other cultures because they're impoverished?
